Something we have lacked in the past 5 years is the glue guys. Cals earlier teams had them. Miller, Harrelson and Liggins in 11, Willie was a glue guy, AP, Derrick Willis, Dominique Hawkins, Mulder. Somehow after that 2017 team, we didn't seem to get very many glue guys anymore.

The point of this is we don't need certain posters on here freaking out when we don't recruit five five stars.

Thiero was the ultimate glue guy this year. Announcers always said it was Mitchell, but they were wrong.

Too bad Thiero didn’t get the minutes he deserved / earned.

Probably why Cal's last great team was with Sestina who also fit that mold.

The problem is you also can't get a team of glue guys.

Roster Balance is needed. I'm fine with getting elite HS talent that isn't McDonald's AA because that evaluation process is often biased. Donovan Clingan was NOT a McDonald's AA. Stephon Castle was vastly underrated and I'd not be shocked to see both taken in the top 3 of the upcoming Draft. Alex Karaban is fantastic and was a guy that a few people on this site loved in HS--but wasn't ranked highly.

Wanting talent/coaches knowing talent is all we want to see them acquire. Then the glue guys factor in, but fat sloth like players in the SEC don't produce and won't apologize or pretend they will because everyone else is on cloud nine with new energy of the program.

Mitchell should've been a glue guy-he was misused and overvalued when Cal forgot his best production was as a small ball 5 man. He couldn't handle SEC athleticism at the 4 spot.

Thiero could play. Kentucky did right by him and he has no reason to be salty about anything. He was starting, earned his spot and then the disappearance with myriad of issues which led to Cal questioning WTH was going on. That's going to be interesting to see where he ends up if he returns to CBB because Cal was the one calling him out/changing his role upon his return.

Well he went from UMass to Texas to WVU to UK and there's a reason nobody really fought to keep him. He was best in the small ball 5 but then he got overused and Cal depended on him way too much.

He still pissed me off when UK got the lead on a Dillingham 3 and had some momentum how he was on Townsend and got sprayed from 3pt line with his hands down by his waist, they take the lead and never gave it up rest of the game. Then compounds it by his BS fake hustle play that resorted in a dumb foul and putting them on the FT line

Team had taken off with him gone and Cal didn't care. He made sure he worked to get him back. So maybe a few games in SEC Tournament would've helped that? Nevermind.

So glad Calipari is gone. I could not take another year of the Cal era. Cal was checked out anyhow. Flirting with Ohio State in Feb? GTFO.

Believe I mentioned that was a job he'd have interest in too. I understood that one for him but they smartly avoided this move seeing how little he has left in coaching. I loved what they were doing once Diebler replaced the jackass Chris Holtmann and actually would like to see Pope recruit 1 of their Portal guys--Scotty Middleton--but now Diebler has added Golden Boy Joel Justus as Associate HC--he's on the crap list. The momentum of what he was doing is now tarnished and no wonder Roddy Gayle Jr also jumped in the Portal. LOL

A lot of those guys mentioned were here before Cal.

Think it's funny Justus made a final four again before Calipari.

I don't. Cal keeping that jackass around is what started the decline. Each ladder within the program Justus climbed...the program got worse until he was in the top chair next to Cal and that led to '21 debacle. Keatts and crew have that on the resume, great for them. But Justus was in another position where the Wolfpack fans wanted that staff gone and rightfully so. The magical run--glad they beat Duke 2x and denied 46 yr old Bacot an ACC Tournament title on way out--was just that. My ruthless side wanted those clowns to get a 40 pt beatdown from UConn in the Championship game but they reverted to who they were all year against Purdue and got tossed around in Semis.

Yes he was the glue guy on that team who I felt always tried hard. Even with the reports of a broken thumb and the back injury dealing with growing pains.

The human factor is like a glass of tea.
Some use no sugar and add lemon.
Others use lots of sugar and add a little lemon,
It's a matter of mindset.
It's all about choice.
