It looks as if Hubert Davis is adding a GM of basketball position at UNC. Could be a last ditch effort to buy him another year. The reason given for the move is NIL.

I guess my question is, does it take a GM for each sport to adequately deal with NIL issues? I understand having a department in the athletic department that deals with NIL issues, but adding a sport specific GM seems like administrative bloat. Am I missing something?

I’m sure I’m ignorant, but when I watch basketball I’m always amazed how the staff/grad assistants/random dudes seem to outnumber the players. I’m like “how are they staying busy?”. Seems like GM duties could be worked into one those roles. Could see schools like UNC having the funds and the will to have one but feels excessive to me
