Going back to my question from Friday about Russell and if he struggles...

was there any point where you would have brought in Relf? I thought Tyler played well enough for us to win. I didn't see a point where to bring in Relf unless you just wanted a change of pace. I know Russell was 11 of 29 but he made some plays with his pocket awareness. I was impressed with that. And he ran the option pretty well and got some yards with his feet.

Bottom line, Tyler Russell is our quarterback. But there is still a lot of situations where Chris Relf can help us win football games. A critical 4th and 1, I want Relf. 1st and goal from the 4, I want Relf.

When we did that reverse throw back pass out of the wildcat with Favre- I would have rather had Relf throw that pass than Favre.

Actually, come to think of it I would have rather had Bumphis throw that than Favre.

Other than that, no.

Tyler had a tough assignment for his first start. He had guys in his face all day and he did make some plays here and there, and South Carolina has a pretty good secondary. At the same time, he wasn't faultless either- but I think most of his issues are experience issues. And also issues with having a below average o-line that was outmanned by South Carolina's d-line.

I expect improvement against UK- I actually think he will play pretty well against them, and then he should also get some pretty good reps against UT-Martin. Bama- we're screwed. But I think he can probably do pretty well against Arkansas and Ole Miss.

but I don't know that I would put Relf in that spot either. I would be concerned about Relf's confidence because of the Auburn goal line debacle.

I think the better solution there is to hand the ball off to Ballard or Perkins rather than throw it three times. And yes, Relf can handoff just as well as Tyler, but when we bring Relf in, we would be tipping our hand. At least with Tyler there's the threat of the pass or run.

Tyler made some good plays. He also has room for improvement, especially his deep ball. I would still rather see him than Relf. We'll beat UK and UT Martin. Then we'll pull out a nail biter verses the Rebs and go to a crappy bowl, which--in all honesty--is about as well as we could expect at this point and much better than sitting at the crib this post season.

was after the horrible punt by SC after we scored our TD where we got the ball on their side of the field. I think we ran the ball 3 straight times and punted right back to them.

There was no point in that game that I thought Relf would really help us out here or would do any better. A lot of people are saying the goaline situation, have any of you seen us play at all this season? Maybe for a play but not for the entire series. I just wish Russell had seen what I saw and that was an open Bumphis on the out route. But if he saw an opening with Smith it is hard to fault him because Smith had been having a really good game and Bumphis is not the poster child for consistency with catching passes that hit him in the hands.

Relf has lost his confidence and the teams, as bad as our line is, they block better for Russell. I do think we should have run on first down and looked at it from there.
