Are we witnessing the golden decade of Mississippi State football (2010-2019)? Previous decades have not been so generous, and we have seen multiple decades of playing in the dark ages.
Mullen 64-39 2010-2017 (didn't include 2009 record 5-7)
Moorhead 8-5 2018-current
Since 2010, 9 straight bowl games, achieved #1 ranking in 2014, the Dak, Orange bowl, 5-2 record since 2010 against Ole Miss (Ole Miss forfeits 2012/2014 wins due to NCAA penalties), 2 star Fitz Sec QB Rushing Record, will most likely make that 10 straight bowl games and a 6-2 record against Ole Miss, list goes on...
2019 and beyond, I believe Moorhead can continue this type of success. Hopefully, we'll have a season that tops 2014 in the next 3-5 years. He'll most likely run into bigger name suitors like Mullen did and possibly leave at the right time and right program (Penn St? Pittsburg Pirates..jk). I hope Moorhead becomes our Frank Beamer (VTech) or David Cutcliffe (Duke), but given the short shelf life of coaching, those coaches are few and far in between. Freeze could have been Ole Miss' Beamer, but we all know that back story. Clemson got lucky with Dabo (till he leaves for Bama). If Moorhead were to move on like Mullen, I don't want to see us fumbling around like Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Arkansas looking for that flash in the pan coach (Bobby Petrino/Hugh Freeze anybody?) that wind up doing more long term damage to a program than short term glory. I don't know if our Frank Beamer is one day Dak Prescott at the head coaching realm or another unknown player or coach who bleeds maroon. However, let us all enjoy this past decade and upcoming season, and we might be surprised with a 10-3 or 9-4 type of year with Moorhead at the helm. We have the talent just need the right play calling, execution ("do your job"), and ball to bounce our way for such a season. Hail State!
