For the TVA power experts, what is going on in Lowndes, Oktibbeha, Clay? Heard there is a TVA issue and no power in the Golden Triangle and may be down for a day or so. Anybody know whats going on? Is this just down TVA transmission lines coming out of damage north of that area? Sounds like primaries and backup grid lines are cut to area.

A friend heard from someone in city government (Starkville) that the TVA transmission line at Wren was down due to the storms. They are working on it but no time table given. Said they didn't expect it to take 4 days as one rumor floating around had mentioned. So, I'm guessing anywhere from 2 hours to 3 days.

Electric utilities need literally thousands of employees to turn power back on after an event like this. This usually isn't a problem, as they simply bring in contractors from surrounding areas or states.

Problem is this time, all the surrounding areas are also screwed. Linemen and such are in very short supply.

I suspect restoration might not speed up much until people from way out of state come in - like they did with Katrina.

That suppposedly they can turn on with 15 minutes notice to power all of campus?

Does campus have power? I know the city doesn't.

Everything is blacked out, people are dancing in the street, and we rapin' errrbody.

But seriously the school had emergency generators running but nothing substantial to power outlets and other necessities. I have a final at 8 that I cannot study for without power for my laptop. Still awaiting word from school on the verdict. Its a funny scene seeing the idiots at the grocery store buy frozen foods instead of bread and pb&j as well.

I know Columbus and much more are dark too. I've been hearing 72 hours until power is restored. I had to wait in line for a good while just to get inside kroger (they have backup generators) earlier to get candles and batteries. Crazy night.

We went and looked at the generators near the sorority houses in my thermodynamics class back in the day. They are effin huge and I want to say are able to power most if not all of campus. Also believe someone tweeted that they were having trouble with them.

“MSU experiencing problems with backup co-generation power plant. “We’re optimistic,” provost Jerry Gilbert said, “but we have no idea at this point what will be the outcome.”"

Sounds promising.

As a cpe student it's almost laughable expecting our ece department to correct this issue. It stands out to me that simralls emergency generators failed to kick in after the power outage occurred. They had to bring a technician in to correct the failure 2 hours late while the other buildings were suited for the situation.
It really sounds like to me we failed to inspect our systems as a university for such am emergency as this. Especially if the back up power supply was supposed to be available within 15 minutes of power failure.

With that being said I'm glad my last final got cancelled as a result of this mess and I hope the best for the victims of the weather that has thrashed the region

We lost power here in Kosciusko at 3:00am and it didn't come back on until 4:00pm. Parts of the county are still in the dark as is Durant. If TVA is asking for any help from Entergy they probably won't get it as all Entergy crews are busting ***. We also lost power the night before (Mon.)and crews worked through the night only to get 17'd againthe next day. Entergy has been busting *** for about 48 hrs. straight now. Good luck to y'all.
