Golf fans: Anyone else almost inexplicably still root for Tiger?

I'm one of those guys that genuinely doesn't give a damn about what a pro athlete or celebrity does in their personal life. Due to that, I've never really had a "hero" athlete nor have I ever crucified anyone for something bad that they've done. I guess I've just always accepted the fact that the only reason I know their names was for entertainment purposes so I really don't care what they do in their spare time.

That said, Tiger's done enough over the last few years to make just about anyone dislike him, but I can't seem to help but pull for him when he's making a push on Sundays. Any of you guys still pull for him or are you done?

On a related side note, if you don't know who Meghan Hardin is... you need to find out

What has he done to "make" you "dislike" him?

I usually root for him the most when the TV is on mute though. The announcers drive me absolutely mad when he is playing well or when he is even remotely close starting the day on Sunday.

One person I have never rooted for, and this will possibly cause a thread hijack (my bad), is John Daly. I think a lot of people root for himbecause of his off the course life. He is the anti-Tiger in that regards except a lot of his off the course actions are just as deplorable. I don't root against him for any of it just like Tiger, but I sure as hell don't root for him because of it.

He doesn't "make" me dislike him. I dislike him of my own volition because he is a pompous assed narcissist.

But he had me pumped as hell with that flopper on 16 yesterday. Unbelievable golfing talent wrapped tightly within a huge piece of ****.

I don't mind Tiger, like you, its the announcers giving him a blowjob over the TV that drive me nuts. No one is worse than NBC. They will fall all over themselves talking about Tiger.

Especially if you think that he is the only *** hole playing. There are LOTS of those guys doing just as bad, or worse than he is each week.

Just enjoy watching a once in a lifetime talent and leave it at that.

I've loved golf since the age of 5 and will watch it whether he plays or not, but having him in or near the lead is simply good for golf, like it or hate it. The excitement, to me, is almost unmatched when the media, the fans and the field are all trying to chase down Sunday Tiger. He's down right fun to watch whether it's hitting 3 horrible shots and 1 unbelievable one to save par or snaking an eagle putt. He plays to win and isn't afraid to show his emotions when he's upset. I understand golf is a gentleman's game and he is a role model, but when someone is as passionate about their game as Tiger you're going to have moments. It doesn't help his every move is under a microscope. But you start to expect a certain level of play from yourself bc you know you're capable of it and when you don't match or elevate that level on a consistent basis it can be frustrating to say the least. I'm sure most can relate as it comes hand in hand with being competitive. In other sport showing emotion would be welcomed as showing a "fire" or passion for the game, be it positive or negative emotions, but in golf both tend to be frowned upon because its bad etiquette. Obviously all of this is just my opinion, but the fact is there are few people who have dominated their sport the way Tiger has. So.. inexplicable?? No, people love a winner, they love domination and they love excitement and when Tiger is on his game he will never disappoint giving you any of these.

He is an ******* on and off the course.
I care less what he does in his personal life, it's his life and if he wants to ***** around, then go for it..
The media makes me hate him even more, they way they suck up to him, almost as bad as they do to the current POTUS.
Tiger is good for the sport and ratings, but I just don't like him.

it's great to watch. Watching someone set the standard that all pro golf will one day be measured by is fun to watch.<div>

Tiger's A game is by for more exciting than any other golfer out there, so I pull for that when I'm watching. However, if he's not playing well, I wish they would shift the focus of broadcasts to the players that are doing well that week. I'm not one of those that gets fired up to watch average Tiger.

We end up with a battle of dudes I've never heard of, which seems to happen a lot even in big tourneys.
