Just an all around solid, gentleman-like 92 in my first round of the year today. Kinda surprised there weren't many people out with the warm weather.

I hit the Bull yesterday. Surprised it wasn't more crowded. Course was wet but I was playing golf in January so I won't complain.

The guy to follow for Tiger info is @twspot

Total fanboy, not that there is anything wrong with that, but I twitter search his name all the time to get Tigers latest.

True..I held hope as long as I could, but am leaning towards him being done at this point (although that 2nd round bogey free 65 at the hero....ahhh he's done).

Anybody tried the new pro-v yet? Saw they went back to the black line, probably the only real change tbh.
We moved into this house about six years ago and still have some boxes that were never unpacked. When I was in the attic getting Christmas stuff down I opened a box and on top was an unopened twelve pack of ProV's. Kind of puts everything into perspective, doesn't it?

Tiger to play TM woods AND irons eventually. Guess he is still playing the Nike irons this week.

Big move for TM signing Woods. However, their marketing shtick got old several years ago. They make great equipment like everyone else in the industry. They all have to conform to the same rules set forth by the USGA. Used to be a TM guy but now play with what works best for me. That said, no doubt having Tiger on board will move more product for them.

Will Tiger ever win another tournament? I'd say yes but certainly not a major. Jack's record is safe, Snead's maybe not. Big "maybe" though.

For the 1st time in my life, I actually felt bad for Tiger today. I honestly thought my son could have beat him today. At one point, he was 4/11 hitting the fairway, I turned it off then.

Painful to watch. A shell of his former self at this point but who knows what may happen this year.

I think it'll be a year before he's capable of winning. Assuming he plays a full schedule and stays healthy. He hasn't played a PGA event in 2 years. Barely played at all for a huge portion of that time. Going to be a long process to get the game back in some type of order.

He could still win but at age 41 his time is running out. His body is wearing down due to all the surgeries plus these young bucks are just too damn good. Equipment is getting better too which really benefits the limberbacks. I think he'll win again but I doubt it'll be a major.

A lot of folks do not understand what a back injury does to the golf swing and mind until you get injured. Had a lower back injury much less serious than he did and my average golf game went to crap in short order and has taken a long time to get back.

Give Lebron James serious knee problems and he will be a shell of his former self as well.

Tiger can win again but he will have to win differently than he did in his prime. His long game superiority is completely negated now. These young guys destroy the ball now. His short game has to become impeccable again and at age 41 it's going to be hard for him to regain the short game he used to have but it is possible if he can stay healthy and puts the work into it.

He is mentally out of it right now, every miss hit he showed too much emotion. This can be fixed no doubt, but as UKalumni said, back injuries are both physically and emotionally troubling.

The thing to hold onto is that this is Tiger Woods we are talking about here. If there is anyone who has what it takes to overcome what he has endured it is him. It comes down to how much he wants it. If he regains that extreme competitive spirit that he used to have he has a chance but he has to stay healthy. He still has great swing speed to get the ball around on long courses. Can he get the ball in the fairway at a better rate and can his short game get back to where it used to be or at least close to it. If those things happen he is going to win again and could have some majors left in him. He has about a 5 year window left (if healthy) to get it done. After 45-47 its going to get very difficult especially with the immense amount of young talent already on tour and will be entering it soon.

Tiger's swing is so vastly different than 3 years ago. It's like watching another guy... his body is different. I look at his swing and he's got an amateur follow-through. Choppy. So many guys on tour right now have fluid, beautiful swings. Not him.

I think he may be toast...in a David Duval kinda way.

If he is going to ever comeback to any type of form its going to take some time. No coincidence the last 20 guys on the leaderboard all played the more difficult South course. Supposed to be pretty windy today but the North course is easier. I bet we see some real awful scores out there on the South and hopefully Tiger can have a decent score today to build some confidence heading into next week in Dubai.

Was waiting on your excuse. SC was definitely playing harder, but that had ZERO to do with some of the shots Tiger hit. He had to scramble to even shoot +4. Ollie Schniederjans was -3 on the same course, FYI.

Guy is fork/done. He will have more MC's this year than top 10's. Was so out of his league yesterday it was painful to watch. Maybe the adrenaline and butterflies were too much to overcome and today will be better...tbd.

I posted in the old golf thread that the Costco golf ball was going to kill the golf ball market.

Looks like the other manufacturers shut down the factory that was producing Kirkland balls and their balls.

Costco hopes to get the ball back out again sometime this year which would be nice.

I'm sitting on 4 dozen and wish I had bought way more. I'm annoyed at the resellers.

I did not get any and am kicking myself that I did not catch on to it sooner. That said, I just get premium balls at lostgolfballs.com so I am still saving a lot of money. Saw the new Titleist balls yesterday. $47 a dozen. No Thank You.

Zero doubt Titleist and others put the clamps down on the manufacturing plant doing the Kirkland balls. Balls is the real money maker for them. Kirkland would do tremendous harm to their profits.

Take your speakers and get off the course please. You're ruining the game for real golfers. Thanks tiger

I have been playing golf for over 40 yrs and I have never heard of having music in a golf cart. I live on a golf course and watch a lot of players tee off behind my house and never have I heard any music from a golf cart.

That's a new one on me that I hope to never see.

On a injury related note, Phil seems to coming back from his injury pretty well. He flirted with top 5 last week, and has hit some nice shots this week. Tiger is dealing with the mental part of it combined with the injury side. Would love to see another 5-6 years out of Tiger and Phil, will definitely miss those guys when they are gone.

Two kinds of golfers, those with back pain and those that are going to have back pain. Read that somewhere about 30 years ago and didn't think much of it. It may be true.

Related to the golf ball talk, would recommend checking out Snell's golf balls. Buddy of mine bought a dozen and they are really nice. GolfSpy (known to be as impartial as they get) rated them the overall best ball in 2016. I ordered a 6 Dozen pack of the My Tour balls this morning. Great value for the quality of ball you are getting. Worth checking out. Really like supporting these start up companies with quality folks and products trying to make an impact to the industry.

About back pain, very very true about getting it sooner or later playing golf. Hit me a few years ago and it does not magically go away. Word to the younger folks on here. Be very mindful of your flexibility and conditioning as you get older because if you hit enough balls and have what most of us have (inconsistent and flawed swings) you are going to get injured sooner or later.

I'm in my early 20's. I've had back problems since I was in like 5th grade. I have a mild case of scoliosis. I played yesterday and I could feel it start getting tight and a little painful. I dread what it's going to be like when I'm 50. Even with the bad back I carry it 330+. [winking]

Highly recommend doing Yoga. Do not have to do the hardcore stuff, but the Yoga for Golf program is not too intense but does a good job of calming the mind and helping the body. Its not the funnest thing to do at first but after a week or so you start to see the benefits of it. I started to do it after my last injury and it has really helped. Absolutely crucial to do a good warm up before hitting. My warmup is around 20-25 minutes. It was an adjustment but I really noticed my swing got better and minimizing pain.

Good job being able to hit the ball that far but its not doing any favors to your back. Really think you need to consider dialing it back some. Trust me, once the back goes out you are beyond excited to just be able to go out and hit the ball 200 yards if it means being able to play.

I use a foam roller and it really helps with the lower body. Helps my back as well. I was totally kidding about carrying it 300. It was a joke about the big hitters on give Paddock. I hit it 270 normally. I can hit one 300 in a dry summer here in Texas with 10mph downwind. I'm no bomber haha.

I have to be cognizant to stretch for a good 20-25 minutes before I play. If not I know it'll cost me in the long run. I get away with stuff because I'm young. As I get older that won't be the case and I really want to be able to play this game for as long as I can.

Back pain sucks.

Don't buy those **** refurbished balls, they'll never perform like the real deal.

I was semi-joking about the music deal. Doesn't bother me if it's a casual round, but you best not bring that garbage if it's anything other than that.

Did not watch Tiger's round but a 77 is pretty rough. I still contend if he can stay healthy he will figure it out but its going to take time. The pressure will mount if the rounds do not get better, but Tiger is one of the very few who can endure it and stick to a plan and figure things out. Then again, the injuries and being 41 now may have finally caught up to him. We shall see, but I am not throwing in the towel on him yet.

Being 41 should be near the bottom of the list of what will prevent him from winning.
