If you use The Grint scoring/gps app on your phone they have a feature for online clubs they say are USGA approved for an official GHIN.

Ended up with Buschnell neo ion watch.($150) Had I seen your post I probably would have bought that and put it in my pocket. BUT as it turns out the watch has been awesome. Zero problems with it on my wrist and playing, lightweight, easy to use, no monthly fees, I have compared yardages to range finders and on yard markers and I'm either spot on or within a yard. It's supposed to be able to be used for 3 or 4 rounds but I charge after a round or two. Saves time grabbing it out of cart etc. I certainly put my stamp on this GPS watch.
Put me down as someone that just hates those things. Played in a scramble where a player had one. After a while I just wanted to take the darn thing and throw it under the wheel of the golf cart. Look at the yardage marker, pick a club and hit the ball and move on works for me.

Watch is quicker than looking at marker or laser imo. One look, get yardage, pick a club and go. Guy who looks at yardage at times is sitting there subtracting and adding and estimating. Guy with rangefinder has to get it out of cart and put it back in. Watch without question is quickest way to play.

Ok golfro's if you're bored and want to take a stab...after a very long absence due to work and back issues I'm getting back into the game.

First and foremost been putting in good range/practice time in at my club which is most important. Short game is rusty af and needs a ton of practice time. Considering starting over with my sticks, thoughts or what parts do you think are the weak spots?

- never been fitted, worth it for high HC? I'm 6'3" so would think would need too but have long arms so I feel like that's always countered my height.

- '14 Big Bertha Driver, the blue one. Like it, figure it's keepable. Rocketballz 4W, Cleveland Mashie....don't use either much

- TM Burner 2.0 irons, good imo but I think are roughly 2010 iirc? Looking at TM M2 irons, enough tech jump to justify replacing the 2.0 or if I'm hitting the 2.0 well just keep?

- Have one Cleveland RTX wedge 54, have used it as a catch all after my AW. Thinking about newer RTX in 54 and 60 and learning how to use them properly.

Thoughts? If the answer is just practice/lessons/play cool, if some of that is worth replacing I will.

Thanks The Paddock golf experts.

Nothing? Not even a get pumped?
I believe it's a good idea to get fitted for clubs/ball and keep up with the latest technology out there. So get lessons, practice, get fitted for clubs and keep up with technology the best you can. Nothing groundbreaking that I'm telling you

I've finally started playing enough to justify an upgrade in tech from my old 04 Callaway BB's. Decided to go with the Taylor Made M2's and I'm really happy so far. Went through the fitting process and I was nowhere close to the stock I've been playing for years (+2 upright/different shafts). Also, kind of amazing the loft changes over the years... my old 4 iron has a similar loft to my new 6 iron. Right now, I have no idea how far I hit anything. Learning process atkot.

Getting fitted is definitely worth your time, at least for your driver. Shocking the difference that playing with clubs that work for you instead of against you will do for your game. Personally, I'd prioritize it over any other thing you can do when it comes to improving your game.

Bones to be an on course reporter for golfchannel/NBC

http://www.golfchannel.com/news/golf-central-blog/mackay-joins-golf-channel-course-reporter/

“The first thing I’ll say is, I obviously have a ton to learn,” Mackay said. “Early on, my only goal is to get comfortable and get better. But for what I could bring is a caddie perspective, I may have something more to say about the dynamic of player and caddie going on out there. But again I have a lot to learn. Right now, it’s just a question of jumping in with both feet and learning as much as I possibly can, as quickly as I can.”

Interestingly, too, with his schedule, there remains the potential for Mackay to do some caddieing while also broadcasting. “I don’t think it rules anything out,” Mackay said. “I’m going be working 20-odd weeks a year. I think being a caddie is always going to be in blood, but right now it’s one thing at a time.”

I love the "no way this Motherf##%er puts the ball back where it was" quote.

Question: If he marked his ball overnight, and the grounds crew fixed divots in the AM, how was he cheating if he played from the exact same spot, only now it was a freshly sanded or resodded piece of turf?

That's a good question that I didn't consider. If the crew fixed it, no fault on the player for sure.

I finally got out of my Project X 6.0 (which I had zero business being in), and I feel like I'm playing an entirely different sport.

If you were to say, just for kicks let's put you in the worst shaft imaginable for you and your swing it would have been the Project X, especially at 6.0 (which freaks out closer to 6.5). I had the 5.5s in my Ap2s, and never liked them either...it's just not a fit. The things you'll do when you want new irons NOW, pure a few on the Simulator, and that's the last set left on the rack. [eyeroll]

So I got the Mizuno Cart from the pro shop out a few weeks ago and hit every shaft they offer, numerous times. The classic KBS Tour (stiff) was the clear winner, even though some of the new lighter offerings were interesting.

Also got the lie board out and was amazed. Went 2 degrees up when I had my shafts installed.

People who discount the importance of having the correct setup for their individual game are really missing out, imo. There is no such thing as a 'standard lie' or 'best' shaft -- it's all about your individual swing.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't situation.

Golf is already an expensive game to play. That is a big reason a lot of folks do not play. Discounting is a big problem because the discounts like this article states are too much but it brings more people to the courses. Hate to say it but the only way to help courses become profitable (in general across the country) is have less and create more demand/play on the courses you have. However, you then combat slow play because people have limited courses to play which drives people away.

Just glad I never went into the golf business. You better work at a strong private club or public course (not many out there) or you are going to have high blood pressure trying to run a struggling course.

The city should sell Tates Creek...prime real estate location for much needed homes in that area. They would make a nice chunk of change.

Meadowbrook should be sold to FCPS. Southern could use the space.

- Only 214 days to play golf in Lexington during a year? That can't be right.

- With most public local courses having $20-$25 Golfnow options very few people are gonna pay $45 for Picadome ($50 for Kearney is a stretch but more will do that).

- Played Meadowbrook all during college so it has a special place in my heart (nearly chopped my pinkie off closing that giant metal garage for the old guy that used to run it, hit in the belly button while chipping on #1 by a tee-shot off #2, etc)... but it's kind of amazing it's still open.

- With that said, I only paid $7 to walk 14 holes at Lakeside tonight. There's some room for change.

Heard a rumor yesterday that the city and Whitaker Bank are exploring the possibility of swapping Tates Creek for Andover. The city gets a new upscale public course and the bank gets property they can sell and develop.

Sounds like a plausible theory? Anyone else heard it? @cawoodsct?

I heard they were looking at swapping Lakeside for Andover. I would think Lakeside would be more valuable than Tates Creek as well. Not sure. Either way I think the city comes out ahead if either rumor is true.

Really nice that Lexington has a solid par 3 course to offer. Meadowbrook is very useful, hope they continue to keep it running.

Is lakeside part of the property from Jacobson park? If so, does the city own it? I know the water company owned the park property and did a long term lease. Can't remember if they ever gave it over or not.

My take away as someone who grew up and learned the game at TC, Lakeside and Meadowbrook (plus the late great Mason Headley Par 3!!):

1. Amen to less pro shop staff and more maintenance staff and money. Poor conditions will keep lots of golfers away

2. Older people have more disposable income and way more time than young people. They can afford to raise the senior rate to 60

3. No double discounts

4. Great idea to close the courses - not much reason to keep courses open in December and January, not enough sunlight and even if it is warm, courses are muddy and soggy, hard to maintain for a relative handful of players

5. Raise the greens fees some, I agree $45 is too much for Gay Brewer, but $35 is not, and Kearney (if in good condition, see no. 1 above) is certainly worth $50 to play.

P.S. I have a little inside knowledge and from what I hear, there is no legitimacy to the Andover for Lakeside/TC rumor.

Agree with all of this. Make Gay Brewer $40 is what i'd be ok with....$45 will drive more people away from there, Kearney im fine with $50, raise Seniors to $60 and im on board with nothing lower than $15 regardless of discount, better conditions less staff is good, and i rarely play in those winter times so im good with that and if i do ill go to the lexington course or somewhere else.

Hopefully we keep all courses but i can understand if they have to let one go.

Any idea who is floating the rumor about Andover/TC? Person I heard it from has some connections but he did say he wasn't saying it was definite.

Hell, at least it makes interesting discussion.

Man you are just hilarious, let me tell ya. So cool. Wish I could post in a message board thread 24/7 and make myself feel as cool as you think you are. Got that handicap down to single digits yet?
