Golfing scandal?

I won my share, especially considering my level of skill. I don't make birdies but I make a ton of pars, that does not go well in a scramble as most of my shots remain playable but rarely are great. I am not short off the tee but not game changingly long either. I don't 3 putt often but I don't make a lot of longer putts either. My strength is getting up and down from just about anywhere which shouldn't be that useful in a scramble. I do better in medalist play when it's played down. I beat a lot of guys when they have to play their own ball that beat the crap out of me in a scramble format.

I think I didn't explain myself well when it comes to the cheating thingy, which isn't unusual for me. I didn't say I wouldn't sandbag, I said it was cheating. If everyone is taking a club length even to get out from behind a tree, you bet your *** I was taking one too. "Preferred lies" yep, in a scramble for sure. Then sandbagging? That's part of the scramble experience and it's known but:

When someone wants to see how good they can be and wants to do their best and not sandbag (cheat), I can respect that as well.

I am far from a cheat. Taking a par if different from faking a hole-n-one. Also, if we would had bogeyed playing it safe I would have taken it. I had already taken a few bogeys that day. I play by the rules, playing smart golf for a win isn’t cheating. Should pros go for it in the Masters when they have a lead or play it safe?

I guess I cheat all the time but not on the scorecard. In our group it’s perfectly acceptable to improve your lie if a ball is practically unhitable. Do Overs are given automatically but you can’t take a second Do Over until it’s repaid by someone in the group. If you declare on the first hole that you’re not hitting out of the sand then it’s acceptable to lay out of a trap anytime. We really just don’t care. Golf is just an excuse to hang out for 4-5 hours and we never play for money. Half the time we forget to keep score.

Agreed as long it’s you and your buddies even it’s for money provide everyone is playing by same rules.

You play in an event against others that are not doing those things, then it becomes theft. Yes it’s stealing from someone who was not cheating. It’s also weak, you don’t think you can win if you don’t cheat.

Sounds a little harsh the way you worded it, since the poster clearly indicated it was just his friends.

I don't care what rules people use among themselves as long as they are having fun and using good etiquette. They aren't playing USGA golf, and as long as they are aware of that, no harm.
