Excellent article. That community has been through more tragedy than one community should have to. Kudos to Coach Smith and these young men for persevering and leaning on their faith and each other during difficult times. Prayers to the young man in the hospital and to the other young man who just lost his mom. Very touching article
Excellent article. How can you not cheer for this Appomattox program? That’s a model programs and Appomattox fans are some of the finest people on these boards. Hope the Raiders can bring home #6 this year.
I agree fully. That region of the state sets an example for how every community should support their kids. And it’s not just coincidence that their strong faith in God is front and center.
Go get after it Raiders. I’m pulling for you.
I’ve had two boys go through this program and there are 6 of those 5 rings sitting in my house, but the talk about faith, FCA, and our Heavenly Father is what I appreciate the most from this program and how Coach Smith has mentored (and continues to mentor) these boys in and from his program. He’s instilled the mentality to serve others in his team, to look beyond yourself and see the needs of others.
For all the meanings behind: PO1, STRONG, FA17H, BEL1EVE, JOY, AR1SE, SH1NE (and I’m missing one I know) is the reason this team has been blessed!
I wish I had a copy of the Raider prayer done before every game in the Locke room. It will send chills through you!!!!

What a great article. The profession of football coach is more than x and o. Faith is important. Lead by example is very important. Doug Smith is the type of coach all coaches should aspire to be like. Hope raiders put up another championship.
