Good Article On Bowl Selection Process

Good information in Knoxville paper

Realized that conference does not want teams going to same bowl in back to back years, but for some bowls it appears that holds true for also going twice in a three year period? Who knew?

So by the rationale here, makes me think the Tax Slayer is still very much in play for us and despite some scuttlebutt otherwise, Music City may be targeting Vols first and foremost.

Maybe mentioning Tennessee might throw off the taxslayer from wanting U.K. Think about t. They have had Georgia and Tennessee there the last two seasons. Georgia plays in Jacksonville every year on the Florida game. Kentucky has to look pretty good if your Jacksonville. Out of the four probable teams Kentucky is one with the most excitement. Georgia is down in the dumps, Tennessee is forcing coaching staff moves, Arkansas is hot garbage. Who is the only team pumping sunshine out of the 7-5 teams?

Everything pointing after the game Saturday was Nashville was wanting to jump heads over heels for Kentucky. If they keep mentioning Tennessee. (No way Nashville wants that over an excited Kentucky fan base) but come out talking a big game. Taxslayer might decide Tennessee is the better of the two and we "fall into their lap". Kinda like coaches throwing their names in all these jobs when they are not interested to get a bigger cut of the pie.

In the article above we are mentioned just as much as Tennessee. Hadent been in eight years (why I don't n is why fans don't want Nashville with a been there done that attitude).

Cats would sale 45k to Nashville easily and about locking up a sell out.

Still not a lot of clarity, despite all the insider talk of the last day or two seeming to narrow it down to Nashville.

Could be any of Jacksonville, Charlotte, Nashville or Memphis. Lot of wrangling in the backroom between bowl reps, ADs and the league office.

In the end, I don't think we'll know with any degree of certainty until it's announced.....

In this day and age of TV controlling everything in College Football, does actual attendance to the various Bowl games matter like it once did?

If it still does, UK should be at the top of any of these Bowl representatives list.

Possibly something tomorrow. The CEO of Music City mentioned a meeting that was scheduled for Wednesday that involves athletic directors and the SEC office. My guess is that the other bowls will be present too either in person, Webex meeting, or phone. They'll draw up contingency plans for the championship outcomes before they are even played. I highly recommend getting your preorder ticket applications into the UK office. By now most of you know which bowls can/want to attend and it is to your advantage that UK has that information for these discussions.

I'm confused about this rule...I said it in another thread, but we played in the MCB 3 times in 4 years. Why now is this rule an issue? What did I miss in the late 2000s?

The bowl system is completely different from the late 2000s. I assume that has changed as a part of the changing process.

Things that have changed since we last went to a bowl game
  • College Football Playoff system
  • New Year's Day Six
  • SEC Six Pack
  • Return of the Peach Bowl
  • etc, etc, etc
Things have changed but its good we are finally getting to learn them for the foreseeable future.

We would sell a ton of tickets in Nashville,but a Florida bowl would be nice for players and maybe give recruiting a shot in the arm in that area.

It has been so long since we have been to a bowl that any of them have some positives attached to them. I hope we get healthy,get some good practice time for the young guys and show up where ever it is ready to play and showcase Kentucky football in the best way possible.

Regardless of what's being said publicly there's no doubt in my mind the city of Nashville is pushing for UK. It's a fairly easy drive from anywhere in Kentucky, and I'm certain the hotels, restaurants, and bars would love to see UK come to town. Who goes to a bowl in their own state? OK, maybe UCLA/USC, New Mexico, etc., but why would Nashville want UT? Speaking of that I think there are way too many bowls already, but I'm kind of surprised we don't have a "Bluegrass Bowl" in Papa John's stadium. Maybe they could turn over some of the proceeds to the Chicken Bucket.

It could be co-sponsored by the hookers/strippers union with a slogan like "come to Louisville and we'll show you a good time" or "come to Louisville and we'll show you what we've got"

My understanding is that it's because they've had East teams the past few years. This is just something I've heard through the grapevine, not gospel.

I admit not to knowing a ton about bowl economics. Maybe they think a West team (along the lines of LSU or A&M) would bring more TV viewers, as people rightly point out East teams would probably put more butts in seats.
