Most people are probably going to comply; some people won't.
It is June. Pep talks are still a few months too early.

My bigger concern is that I know I will be sitting next to the one guy who rings it the whole game -- offense, defense, timeouts, all the time. I will hate that guy.

If you do, I hope you will do your part as a good Bulldog and report him to security. Because if we don't doour part in this compromise, we have seen the last of cowbells at ScottField. The other 11 schools in the SEC have madeaHUGEconcession in allowing cowbells at games. If we don't abide by the letter of the rule (at least in this 1-year trial period), they're going to impose financial penaltiesthat will force us to have pat-down searches or metal detectors at the gates.

So I am guessing you have never been a "bad bulldog" and taken a cowbell in against league rules?

The SEC wasn't threatening us with financial penalties. Today, we have two choices. One is we abide by the new rule, especially in this trial year. Two is we get ready for pat-down searches and NO cowbells at Scott Field. So which is the "good" Bulldog? The one who wants cowbells or the one who wants pat-down searches and stiff financial penalties (and no cowbells)?

People keeps missing this factor. By every report, there is no "status quo" option for cowbells.

I wish there was. But there's not. The rest of the SEC is far more serious about this issue than they ever have been in the past. We can relax things a bit after the new rule is made permanent, but for 2010 we'd damn well better abide by the letter of the rule or we won't like what happensat the2011 SEC meetings at all.

Our fans are going to break the rules. But, if we are smart enough to break the rules only against the teams that likely voted against the compromise, then we may be able to salvage the cowbell. Ole Miss and Alabama obviously did not vote for the compromise. If we break the rule, only against those teams, then that is only two votes that weren't helping to begin with. If we can show restraint in other games, then the cowbell may be salvaged.

Stricklin has set this up perfectly for our administration. The fans will be the downfall of the cowbell, not our leaders.

Can't decide if I'm willing to go for that yet. Good thing we have an entire season to figure it out.

I will tell him if he does not stop, I will jam it up his ***.

Seriously, I have some faith in this administration to do the right messaging and implement this policy during games in a way that effectively promotes compliance for most fans. Of course, not everyone is going to comply, but I think the vast majority of fans will.

Only problem is you don't play every SEC school each year. Say you ring them against us and Bama next year and a team you don't play sees this they will assume the same will be done the next time they play ya'll so if the problem is brought back up they would be more likely to vote against it the next time around.
