Good call NCAA, Mountain West down to just 2 teams after getting 5 in...

This really is unreal to me. Three big upsets today, and 2 of them were Mountain West teams (that played in the conference championship). 5 seed UNLV and 3 seed New Mexico both go down in first round. I don't know all the formulas and stuff for the RPI and how conferences are rated, but some type of scale needs to be changed or something.

RPI is a 17n joke. USM gets a 29--but their best win was against #65 and #86? They got their RPI because of who they lost to. Mountain West started high and all lost to each other, so the whole 17n conference gets a huge RPI. What a joke.

UNLV got hosed playing California at San Jose (shades of State versus Texas in Dallas). It might as well have been a home game for the Bears. I wasn't surprised at all by their win as well as Oregon's. New Mexico, on the other hand, was a team I thought would make the Final Four. I'm just glad I never submitted a bracket.

The sample size is decent enough. It's the formula that's 17ed up. How a formula that puts 75% weight to who you played and only 25% to how you did ever got to be so widely accepted is beyondme. I could recruit players from a nurshing home and schedule tough enough and get a decent (top 100) RPI.

New Mexico looked like a bubble team - at best.

They had a fairly decent big man, but outside of him, they looked lost the entire time. How the hell did they get a 3 seed and "final four dark-horse" label?

Harvard did actually look solid - I'll give them that. Disciplined, some decent athletes, and made clutch shots in the last 10 minutes. They played very well, but damn New Mexico looked like shite.

Cal is a good looking ball club. Hadn't seen them this year but they have

length and good guards so they won't be an easy out. They should not be a 12 seed.
