Fulham says that Clint Dempsey will not need surgery and could return before the end of the Premier League season in May. Which of course means that he should be OK to go for the US in the World Cup. About time we caught a 17ing break. This team has been cursed with injuries the past few months.

looks like Davies' is gonna be a tough recovery. He could feasibly recover from the accident in time, but who knows if he would be in shape (hope he didn't gain 12 pounds over thanksgiving). http://bleacherreport.com...tes-2010-world-cup-squad Looks like Gooch should recover just in time to get a Red card for a cleats-up dive into Lampard's knee in the 9th minute. http://www.soccerbyives.n...on-comeback-trail-1.html The best news for US soccer is Donovan's progress at Everton. If only we could find another midfielder so we could put Dempsey up top (who am I kidding, Bradley will never do that).

This guy, could actually play...

Here's a few more crybabies to jog your memory on how *****'s perform. Please note that I think TO is a fantastic receiver, but that guy sure knows how to bring a team down...

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know JACK **** about soccer... but something tells me that if Clint Dempsey is a cornerstone of our team, then we better do a lot or praying... and hope that God is actually a soccer fan.

I guess they can play in cold weather but the fans may not like it. Of course, chilly may beat the 100 degrees w/ high humidity when the U.S. hosted.

I remember reading in a book about running that once the temp gets over around 55 F, your ability to run is compromised by the heat.

Although it was high comedy to see Irish gingers turn weird shades of crimson playing in Orland at the 1994 WC.

There is a fairly small window for running. It's also very tough to sprint when you have to breathe cold air.

population and wealth, however, he has to be considered one of the best on our team (and he is actually pretty good). Should we not have one of the top 10 players in the world every year? It just blows my mind. I know we are not a soccer country, but the athletes we produce...you would think we would have hit the jackpot on a few by now. I keep waiting for that 6'4/190lb forward with 4.4 speed and mad ball skillz to show up. There has to be a Wayne Rooney, or a Kaka, or a Ronaldo in the U.S. somewhere.

I am a big Dempsey fan. He has the best first touch (read: only first touch) and the best awareness on the team. He is the kind of guy that can do serious damage when surrounded by skilled players.

This generation of players is better than the generation before them. The next generation will be better than this one. I think in 10 years, the US will be a legitimate top 10 national team.

Let me first re-iterate that I don't know jack **** about soccer and will never claim too... but until our BEST athletes are playing the game from the time they're 5 and 6 years old, US soccer will never be a World Power.

When you look at high schools right now, the best athletes are NOT on the soccer team. The 6'4 200 lb guy is a small forward/center for the basketball team..... or a QB for the football team... or a pitcher for the baseball team... He's NOT playing soccer. And the reason he's not playing soccer is because he watched football/baseball/basketball as a kid and has aspirations to be "like Mike".... and a lot of the reasons he had the chance to watch those sports, is because of the money generated by the NFL, NBA, and MLB. The MLS just doesn't have the following, right now, that it needs to really grow US soccer. I do think that it's in the process and 35 to 30 years from now, USA soccer will be fantastic, hopefully.

When the Dwayne Wades, Lebron James, Reggie Bushes, Grady Sizemores, Deion Sanders, etc.... start playing soccer and get addicted as kids, USA soccer will be much better than they are now.

My previous post was more for humor than anything... I legitimately watched my first soccer match during the Confed Cup last year, when my first impression of USA soccer was our "best player" crying because he lost. I found that almost humiliating honestly... but that's a whole nuther conversation.

Not sure if you live in the USA or not, but soccer might not crack the top 5 for most popular sports... If you do live here, then you should think about moving out of here if you want a "viva futbol" love fest post... Or better yet, through the magic of Al Gore's most precious invention, "the internet", talk soccer with people who give a 17 on a soccer message board.

there are plenty of people who give a **** about soccer on here.

I see you like major league baseball. I absolutely despise it. It's boring as hell to watch. But I don't participate in threads saying it sucks and why anyone actually enjoys a game with maybe 3 minutes worth of real action.

I'm sorry, were you just elected to a rules-making board? We aren't "talking soccer" with you. We are talking soccer with each other. You intervened in this thread. 17 off.

In reference to your other post about the Dwayne Wade's and Lebron James' and such not playing soccer...thank you Captain Obvious.

Like myself, there are a bunch of posters here that grew up playing soccer. Let us have our discussions. No need for your dubmass comments b/c you don't understand or care to understand the game. I'm sure if DS would open a "Sixpack Soccer Forum" the original post would have gone there, but there's not.

Before you make a judgement on the state of soccer in the US, maybe you should look at the state of baseball in the US. I think it would be very liberal of me to say that maybe 50 separate countries care about baseball (or at least know what it is). And the US cannot seem to have success at the international level. In comparison, every nation in the world cares about soccer and the US has had some moderate success in recent years. I think you could legitimately argue that US soccer is further along than US baseball. I also think that the US has more talent in soccer than what is presented. If we could get a foreign coach and give him free reign to play the best players available, things would be much better.

Clint Dempsey for being a cry baby turned into an attack back at myself... and in defending myself, I've obviously offended the soccer fanatics... and for that I apologize.

If you don't want me ridiculing USA soccer talent, or lackthereof, then please don't attack me because I think Clint Dempsey is a hairy ******.

Seriously though, was I supposed to ignore the "Signed, Fans of the #1 sport in the world"... That sounds like something David Murray would write in one of his articles.

Would you like to argue that Soccer is not the #1 sport in the world? Please try. You should probably start by not ridiculing something you obviously know nothing about.

Also, your assessment of Dempsey is just dumb. J-Rock cried at his Connerly Trophy presentation...is he a ******? I am sure Dixon cried on Senior Day. ******? Mark Ingram cried at the Heisman Presentation. I could go on and on.

You don't get soccer. We get it. Just find another topic and move on. You are not going to come out of this a winner.

soccer is the #1 watched and played sport in the entire world, that's a fact. You can just ignore it like the rest of the non-soccer posters on this board. You don't have to be raging douche about it. Just stop now while you're waaaay behind.

between crying in elation/celebration/culmination of a victory/career...

It's a completely different story to cry because you got your *** beat.

There's a reason the 4 pictures I showed in my first post were of people crying because they lost...

Hopefully this doesn't make me as "waaaaay behind" as before... or whatever the 17 that means.

Little Sweet Tiny Baby Jesus. Clint Dempsey cried because he lost. I think he's a ***** for it. Why does that make me a target? Continue on with your in depth soccer converation about his playing status.

And even though I had no intention of arguing betwee the sports... because I feel it's a useless arguement... I'm going to indulge.

Here's the great nations in baseball in no particular order:
Japan
South Korea
China
USA
Mexico
Venezuala
Dominican Republic
Cuba
Puerto Rico
Canada

And to a lesser extent:
Panama
Columbia

I'll go out on a limb and say that there's atleast a few more nations ahead of the USA right now in soccer (pulled directly from Fifa.com).
1)Spain
2)Brazil
3)Netherlands
4)Italy
5)Portugal
6)Germany
7)France
8)Argentina
9)England
10)Croatia
11)Cameroon
12)Russia
13)Greece
14)USA

So to even think USA isn't further ahead in baseball vs soccer is just incorrect. But who cares really... they're different sports with two different fan bases and no one wins when try to compare the sports...

I still can't see why my opinion on Clint Dempsey has caused such an outrage.... ?

Maybe you haven't been around here very long, so let me break it down for you.

Soccer posts occur every now and then on this board. Usually preceded by the warning: ****Soccer Post****

Don't click on them anymore.

There is your lesson.

The problem here is that

A) you are making assumptions about a player you know nothing about
B) you are making statements about a sport you know nothing about

and most importantly

C) you had the nerve to tell us that we should "think about moving out of here" if we wanted to talk soccer.

Just let it go. This thread is over.
