Good point on the B&B show today - with the way the game ended...

was it good for State in the long run? Maybe winning 34-10 might have given State a big head and that ending could have grounded them after such a big win. Discuss.

My thoughts exactly. I think there are far more teaching points based on how it ended. We get the benefit of the W plus stuff to grow on. Auburn is another team with amazing 4th qtr luck. Learning to finish a game will become critical.

There may some truth to it, but honestly I think this team is pretty grounded already. Confidence is a huge elixir but it doesn't mean anything if you aren't focused on getting the job done.

I'm not so worried now. The botched snap was the big WTF moment that made this game close. Had we gone 3 and out, LSU would have had something like 1:30 to go the length of the field, score, recover an onside kick, and score again with no timeouts. I'm glad we had a scare because now the coaching staff knows that you cannot let up on an SEC team until the end.

During Mullen's post-game interview,

he (Dan) alluded to the call on putting Muniz in as a mistake and that he would not do it in that situation, again.

Tough call

As a fan, I wanted us to stomp on their faces and not let them even sniff the end zone. Until that 4th quater flurry they had only managed 3 points of offense.

If they had completed the hail mary it would've been the most Mississippi State thing ever. Maybe by stopping the comeback we accomplished two things: we broke the curse and reminded ourselves that we can't put it on cruise control ever in the SEC.

Either way, I'm really glad I can we won and hope our coaches and players learned from this.

If you can win @ LSU AND learn something that will help you... Win/Win

I think we definitely learned that there is never a time for us, as a program, in the SEC, to take our foot off the gas. I believe that the way it ended will definitely help us to keep working in all games.

Definitely think it was good for us in the long run, just like being just outside of the top 25 last week was better than being 25th. Easier to keep focused and it's better to stay under the radar as long as possible. We're in the SEC West. If we're a top 4, top 10, top 15 team.... people will know it by the end of the year.

I agree, and this was my thinking as I watched the replay yesterday.

Tearing the remaining LSU fans' hearts out as they were hoping for another "this is where opponents' dreams come to die" moment was a bonus as well.

I may be a fool for thinking this, but I really believe that Sat night was an epiphany moment for Mullen. As we've all said many times already this year, there is a time and a place for getting young kids some snaps. When you're trying to ice a game against LSU in Death Valley during the final minutes, that is most definitely NOT the time NOR the place. I'm really hoping that something clicked for Dan, and it seems like it did

Time will tell, but it certainly didn't hurt. All the folks worried about the score being a little closer than it "should" have been need to chill. There's no doubt after reading many articles and seeing the polls today that people are well aware of how badly we throttled LSU, regardless of the final score.

How nice is it to have an off weekend so that we can enjoy this for a full second week?

I think the comeback was primarily Mullen's fault. At halftime he was preaching "60 minutes of football", but he let the whole team believe that 55 minutes or so was good enough. I think it was great learning moment for him and the team.

One problem we have always had at State is that our teams just don't know how to win. They don't have enough experience at it. Even as fans we sit there wondering how our team is going to shoot themselves in the foot instead of wondering what they might do to pull out the victory. This game is just another brick in building the program. We can put in some subs, but we still have to play hard until the final whistle.

I don't like the feeling of winning the lottery, then almost dyeing

in car wreck on the way to pick it up.

Our head coach got the ever-loving goat-squeezings scared out of him Sat and frankly I think that ending was quite embarrassing for him too. I don't think you will see our starters come out wholesale in any SEC game this season unless we are up at least 3 touchdowns, maybe 4 (that means never except for maybe vandy). At least not until under 2 minutes to go. I also don't think you will hear any of fans complaining that we are risking injury to key players when we play them in that situation either.

It was frightening how quickly it almost came unraveled. I was literally reduced to incoherent babbling after that sequence that gave them the ball and a TD to make it a 5 pt game. I have to say that was about the worst feeling I have ever had in a game we were winning and it took me a little time to recover as many of you as well I'm sure.

But, if that provided us a 'scared straight' moment and we still won the game then it was well worth it.

Okay, confession time.
Remember how I said I wasn't going to record the game? Well I didn't. I also didn't get to watch most of the game. I did get to turn on the TV and watch LSU score the touchdown that cut it to 34-22. Then I left the room. When I sat back down, the only other play I saw live was the snap over Dak's head. At this point, I turned pale(er), and might have thrown up in my mouth a little. I grabbed a beer and headed outside and didn't go back in until I saw the little football icon pop up on the corner of my phone to let me know the game was over.

So. Again, sorry everybody.
And fair warning, I will be at the UK game.

I think Mullen and the team learned a lot in the last 6 minutes about what it takes to close out a game. We haven't been in that situation since the Sherrill glory years and neither Mullen or the team really understood how to handle it. I'm just glad we could learn a valuable lesson and still win the game.

Agree ...

Some great positives from this game ...

+ Mullen admits his mistake with Muniz
+ Hopefully, Muniz learns from his mistake, moves forward ... we may need him going forward
+ "Finally" ... some confidence in the FG kicking game; Mullen should have taken the FG instead of going for it on 4th down
+ Hopefully ... Dan learns to not let off the 'gas' with a dangerous talented team ... again

Really Big + ... To start the 2nd half, Dak gives up a fumble for a quick score; Mullen never looses his cool and Dak takes us back down to score. Huge statement in Tiger Stadium and the crowd starts to thin noticeably.

Going to be completely honest ... at that point right there, the 'ole' Mississippi State would have folded like a cheap suit and walked out of DV with another L.

THIS. I was actually yelling at the tv, "Don't keep it Dak!", due to his fumble before when he started that run, then when he broke free and stiff armed that guy I was yelling "GET OFF ME!"

The way this whole team responded when things bounced the wrong way is huge! In the past we didn't know how to respond or simply couldn't. This is a new breed of Bulldogs. And I'm lovin it!

I didn't want to try the field goal because I didn't want to give that unit another chance to screw up. I didn't think the points would matter (and they shouldn't have), so I really wanted that unit to go the next two weeks having a perfect performance at LSU.

I don't think the team learned or will learn much from it. It wasn't on them.
They should continue to trust their coaches. I don't want that to change.

Now I hope like hell Mullen and crew learn from it. They should be apologizing to the team for it.

I thought going for it was the right call, but another handoff to Griffin was the wrong call. We should have had Dak and JRob in the backfield and let LSU guess which one was going to convert.

My funniest takeaway AFTER THE GAME WAS OVER.

I thought back to the bad snap over Dak's head. I was looking at stats and thought, he shouldn't have 100 yards rushing. Then I remembered that he didn't recover the ball. If Dak recovers that, we win by more but he ends the game with 70 yards rushing. Not nearly the same glow to his performance. Now, at the time of the snap, I thought, F***, here we go again. But, I will take it now.

I would have loved to see a jump pass to MJ on 3rd and goal, or even 4th and goal there at the end.

Would have worked beautifully and the comparisons to Tebow would have been off the chart.

Should Mullen get the opportunity to run the score up on a tough SEC opponent, he will then be labeled a bad sport and "classless". Save this post.

I think this game provides a pretty good rebuttal to anyone claiming he is running up the score. Not that it will stop people from whining, but he can always point to the time he almost lost an 18 pt lead in less than 3 minutes or whatever it was.

I think the only call there was JRob. Don't get Dak anymore unnecessary hits. Let LSU guess the obvious choice and if they stop him, then they still have to move the ball 90+ yds. Maybe not any different than what happens, but at least we would have made them stop our #1 back and avoided sending the message to our team that the game was over.
