Gator Bowl is much much much better than Indy, but three of our matchups against the Big 10 is a bit much.

Over the last six and 11 years, the Big Ten has played more bowl games against the SEC than any other conference. The two conferences have met in the postseason on 15 occasions over the last six years, with the Big Ten holding a 8-7 advantage in those matchups. Over the last 11 years, the Big Ten and SEC have met in 29 bowl contests, with the SEC holding a 15-14 edge.

Sharing a pick with the Papajohns Bowl? Come on! The Liberty is a much more established bowl and in a better city. I am sure it has to do with each bowl picking a team that will bring the most fans. But the Liberty should be able to pick any school remaining. Then the PJ gets to pick what is left. The Liberty Bowl either got screwed or dropped the ball on that one.

The SEC getting the Gator bowl though....good job.

at least it hasn't been condemned like one of the upper decks of Legion Field has been. And it's not like Legion Field is in a nicer neighborhood. Plus per Wikipedia, the Liberty pays $1.7M and PapaJohns pays $300K. So yeah, looks like the Liberty got screwed.

If the Liberty Bowl is a **** hole, then Legion Field is the septic tank to which the **** hole drains. The Liberty paid out 1.4 million more than PJ last year.

edit to add: Looks like the PJ is going up to 900K next year.

The Liberty Bowl will always be treated as a ******** 3rd tier game by the SEC until they decide to drop the match-up with a CUSA team. If they decided to match the SEC with, say a Big East team, then it would probably be viewed differently by the SEC.

As a matter of fact, rumors abound that if the LB doesn't drop the CUSA pairing, then the SEC will drop their ***.

Well, now that is a good point. In the PJ, there is always the possibilty of being matched up with a........Miami for example. Long shot, I know.

Also, it was fun being in the Liberty Bowl a few years ago......and I hate to be this way since I am a State fan.......but playing UCF was not very exciting.

The crowds before the SEC were pathetic. I think the LB would be wise to pair the SEC and Big 12 up. Replace the Indy Bowl, and have two good conferences and a good location.

Had Arkansas finished off LSU last year and been invited to the Cotton Bowl, it is very likely we would have been staring the LB or Independence in the face. Given those two choices, I would have MUCH rather played a Big 12 team in the Port City rather than ECU, Tulsa or some crap like that in Memphis. The tie-in with the CUSA is diminishing the Liberty Bowl's otherwise historical value.

I hate to do it but I had to laugh out loud. The upper deck at Legion Field has been gone for several years. In fact, when State played there about 3-4 years ago it was gone.

I think that was his point. The upper deck was condemned causing Alabama to stop playing there after 2004 and was demolished after UAB starting playing there.

. . . though Shreveport is much closer to me, and I won't ever go. But with TV, who cares?

I still have always wondered, with sponsors footing most of the bill, why the SEC and PAC-10 don't play in a bowl, outside of possibly a BCS one. I mean, if you can match up the ACC and PAC-10 in the Sun Bowl for goodness sakes, why not use one of the Dallas-FW bowls to host such a game . . . or anywhere, for that matter (outside of SF, Seattle, or Boise)? That might provide for some interesting matchups. I mean, who nationally doesn't want to see a 6-6 Mississippi State team take on a 7-5 Arizona team in prime time? It's gold, Jerry.
