Got one more question about the "simple" situation with Garrett

Hypothetically : A kid is at LSU and for whatever reason (lack of playing time etc) wants to get out of there. Starts drag assing in practice and developes a give a **** attitude. Now bare in mind this kid and his guardian are not dumbasses so everything is pretty well planned out. Miles tells the kid he no longer has a scholly for him. Kid says that`s cool how about giving me a Garrett deal. Miles says no way and the kid`s lawyer(who`s been working with the kid and his guardian all along) slaps a million dollar lawsuit on Miles and LSU for discrimination.

I know some of you think I`m being hard headed about this but this thing doesn`t pass the smell test to me. You don`t do what Miles did and set that type precedent just because you`re trying to be a nice guy. Hell he`ll have kids asking for a "Garrett deal " before they sign so they can go to their second choice if they`re not good enough for LSU. I still say the Garretts had some kind of leverage OR Miles is as dumb as he`s rumored to be.

Edited to add my question: When you set this type precedent how do you stop it ?

is that why he got a release to UPig? Because alot of people swear that Stansbury is squeaky clean

This is simply Miles releasing a good kid with a good family to be able to go back to a school he grew up loving because Miles can't use him. And it lalso eads me to believe that Miles doesnt think we will have much use for him either.

As far as a lawsuit, I don't think Miles is thinking about that. There is no set guidelines on this and it is simply a coaches decision. And even with the release in your example, the player would have to still sit a year. Instead of a lawsuit, it would just be easier to go juco for a year and then to the school of your choice. After a year of juco, he can go anywhere he wants whether he got a release or not

Miles and LSU recruit illegally just like everyone else- I just think saying Garrett had a big shovel of dirt on Miles is way over the top

Since it's LSU cutting ties with him (assuming that is correct), why should anything they say or do impact him next year? If they get rid of him, he should be able to go anywhere he wants and be eligible for athletic scholarships should the new school want to give him one. That would be the fair thing to do. But, this is the NCAA - common sense need not apply.

I`m asking because I seriously don`t know.

And for the record I wouldn`t doubt that everybody Stans has recruited has some leverage on him. LOL

1. think of how long lawyers can put off going to trial- what does he do in the meantime?

2. What school wants a kid that is lawsuit-happy?

3. filing a lawsuit doesn't solve his situation, and it doesnt stop his NCAA clock from ticking- still has 5 years to play 4

4. All he could recoup out of the lawsuit is his tuition for that season he has to sit out

I dont think any precedent is set and Miles still has total autonomy to do whatever. Because Crooms released a player to Alabama 3-4 years ago(Lowe), does that mean we now have to release players in conference now? No way that holds up anywhere

and the kid`s dad held Miles feet to the fire and was about to light Miles` assup in public. Miles couldn`t afford that to happen and found his dumbass between a rock and a hard place. If that`s a shovel of dirt so be it.

LSU had won a NC recently, has a great program with an awesome fanbase, and offered him a scholly- OR- he could go play Crooms and the worst offense in recent memory. I seriously doubt LSU did very much to sway him. Crowton or Woody? I think you are way off base on this one.

Based on what I've seen with Crowton & Miles, and their QB's, I am not seeing much difference between the two - Crowton & Woody - personally. Not enough to sway me from my dream school anyway.

I'm no fan of Crowton, but he is light years ahead of Crooms/Woody...especially when you leave out last season because Garrett signed in Feb-2009

A buddy of mine talked to Chris and his boss the day before he committed to Miles. In Reed's in Tupelo.

It's pretty much what Coach and patdog said.

I hate to bump this but damn.....you say he is light years ahead of Woody and I think he is just a mile ahead of Woody. So, in essence, we both agree they (Woody & Crowton) suck but because I think they similarly suck, and you don't think that, my statement is dumb? Is that what I just read? And who said anything about leaving out anything? I am simply commenting on Woody and Crowton as non-developers of QB talent, last year and every year, pure and simple. I don't get into the "if you leave this out" or "it you include this" scenarios.

LSU still averaged over 25 points a game after losing their top 3 running backs. In 37 games, he has averaged 30 points a game in 24 of those. Maybe because they typically are not spectacular with all the talent they have, I don't know.
