Let me say first that I don't blame the loss on the calls. We made our own bed with field position blunders and that hurt worse than any of the calls. In actuality, the calls were all bang-bang calls to begin with. All could have gone either way. This brings me to what pisses me off the most and I think what makes us have an attitude towards officiating. If there is ever a bang-bang call, we always get the short end of the stick with the on the field call. If we ever catch a break on one, it's because it was reviewed and even then, it's not likely. I don't mean to get all black helicoptery and not going to blame game the refs for why we lost but look over the past and present at these calls that could go either way. We never get a break on them.

wanted to. I believe in the SEC the big boys always get the nod when on home turf. I'm still mad refs didn't review the play in the end zone. If not a TD ball would of been on the 1 foot line. Don't know if we get in but 1 yard closer....

On to next week....<span style="font-style: italic;"></span>

Did anyone happen to notice that Memphis got beaten by Arkansas State 47-3? We all knew they were bad, but that does not make me feel very warm and fuzzy.

Ole Miss and MSU don't get calls when playing in Auburn, Tuscaloosa, Baton Rouge, etc. And to be honest, neither schoolusually get calls against the big boyswhen we are playing at home.

I hate when close, hard fought football games come down to an official's flag. I just feel cheated from a "homer" fan and entertainment standpoint. It's like when Alabama won the NC they played the last 9 or 10 weeks of the season without a holding penalty. I mean, come on. BAMA fans will say they were well coached. Spare me.

Three things that make up one of the most aggregious and obvious screwing of a 'second tier' team by an SEC ref ever. My Dad, brother and I were watching that game together. MyDad went to Alabama, Brother went to Ole Miss. We all just looked at each other like WTF, then of course myDad just started laughing.

Maybe it's subconscious bias (although I feel it's quite conscious) but the little six and even littler 4 just get jobbed over and over again. Every week we have to be better than the other team and the refs to win. Auburn gets a first down on a favorable spot and a field marker showing daylight between it and the ball.
09 was probably out worst year ever though for Football and Basketball. We got screwed against Kentucky twice in basketball and severly jacked against LSU, Dixon's second carry crossed the goal line. And the phantom illegal forward pass against Houston that was reviewed and still not over turned even though Lee was clearly an entire yard behind the line of scrimage.

bring up the 1999 4th down touchdown that we beat them on but I say this truly, in 30 years of following MSU football that is about the only controversial key call that I can ever remember going our way against an SEC "power" program when a game was hanging in the balance. The only other might have been the Hazelwood FG at the end of the 1998 Arkansas game which was certainly close and riding right near the upright. However, especially at that time, Arkansas was still an SEC new kid on the block anyway. I do believe, even if its subconciously, that SEC refs try to keep the perceived league power structure in place. We get just as bad of calls at home to upper tier SEC programs as we do on the road while we normally get better calls playing out of conference teams. In fact, BYU not withstanding, we normally get better calls from out of conference officials in non-conference games than we do when playing SEC games with SEC officials. Another factor, which they should do something about, is the fact that nearly all the SEC refs have ties to some SEC school and I think their natural biases often influence their calls. So many calls in football are subjective and judgement related anyway. Heck, just this past weekend, most of the biggest calls like the end of the first half personal foul that cost us a FG, the Auburn 9.9 yard first down and Ballard's dive toward the pylon were all just strictly the judgement of the official.

and I think that's really the problem. You get a crew of guys who have grown up watching Bama and co. win, and then when there's a close call against ****** little Ole Miss or State, (insert SEC power) gets the benefit of the doubt because in their minds, (insert SEC power) doesn't have to hold/jump offsides/interfere/cheat to beat us. I have said it 100 times after terribly officiated games, but I think the NCAA should do away with conference crews and one officiating body. I'd rather Head Official Bob Pzaelakewsky from Wisconsin decide my fate against Bama rather than Dale from Huntsville.
