and everybody on the board took the stance that Stansbury was better than Gottfried and that Gottfried sucked. They cant possibly go back on that now because it would mean I was right yet again

Lutz is known as one of the top X's and O's guys in the business. A move like that would have done wonders for Stansbury. Gottfried actually has 2 former head coaches on his staff.

and that's just getting away from coaching for a couple of years.
That said, I have no idea if Stans will coach again, I just think being away helps any coach get the passion back which is so needed.

with a better command of the English language but a greater propensity to get caught digging in the nasal passages for gold. Seriously, he was an above average recruiter and a below average coach. If we pursued Gottfried, MSU basketball really would still be stuck in Ground Hog Day. I am hoping State finds someone who can instill discipline, effort, and actually develop players. Back in the day, Coach Stansbury's teams played with effort, but player development was always missing.

if he does decide to coach again, I think he needs to go to a Miss juco. Not nearly as much recruiting or demanding, and he'll get more time to spend with his boys as they get older. Win-win

Otherwise I agree. Gottfried was criticized for years for his poor offensive sets. His best year (NCAAT-wise) was a year he ended up with some hard-working kids that weren't expected to do much. Plus it doesn't hurt to play the worst #1 seed in the history of the tournament.
