Verbal Agreement with Gran for salary increase. Currently at 650,000 a year. Would think they would like to get him to 850k.

Hinshaw at 400,000. If you increase Gran would think Hinshaw deserves a bump for his development of S Johnson.

Would like to see him at 500,000 for the 2017 season.

For several years, Barnhart has been aggressive in granting raises for Stoops' assistant coaches. We are playing in a stadium that was just remodeled to the tune of over $200 million. We have a brand new office/practice/gym complex too. Makes you wonder how some dopes are still coming here on other threads to complain that UK and Barnhart don't support football. LOL!

To be fair Barnhart did hire Billy G the drunk and joker. Criticism is justified but he has made up for it some with this hire

You began your comment with "to be fair". LOL! But you fail to mention all of his impressive successes. So you are taking the worst decision of his 14 tenure at Kentucky to justify all the ignorant criticisms. Show me any athletics director who has been at the same P5 school for 14 years without a single decision that didn't work out. John Calipari has been a pretty good replacement for Gillispie. Barnhart arm twisted Lexington into the Rupp Arena renovations UK required. Our football team is going to the Gator Bowl. Our assistant coaches have raises. Our stadium has been renovated. We have a new office/practice/gym complex. Just exactly what do you expect from the man anyway?

I'd say criticism was justified.
But now it's time to move on. Every athletic program and their facilities
have been improved under Mitch. I think he's done a great job...

Retaining Gran and Hinshaw was a vital step towards moving this program forward. I might even put it above keeping Vince Marrow. Thats a big might though

I would not be disappointed if we retained all of the coaching staff from this year. I would be terribly disappointed if we lost Gran, Hinshaw or Morrow. Go Cats!!

God you're dense. The football program was in the predicament it was in due to him hiring joker. The basketball program was a joke and an embarrassment because he hired a damn drunk who treated the players like ****. He deserved criticism but has made up for it with what he has done recently. Read the entire reply before responding with something that you actually think is smart.

NCukcat, When Bill G come here, most of the fans were excited with the hire. He had beat Pitno, which was a plus, and he had done a good job at his previous schools. I'm sure Barnhart never expected what he got, or he wouldn't have hired him. A lot of the Alumni thought Billy G was a good hire at the time of his hiring, and I know that played in the hiring of him.
I'm like the coach who went for the TD,and didn't make it, instead of kicking the field goal to win. When someone, in church on Sunday, said, "Coach, I believe I would have gone for the field goal, instead of the TD."
The coach replied, "If had all night to think about it, I probably would have also, especially after knowing the outcome."

I have NEVER met someone who was wrong, if they had a couple of days to think about something, after it had already happened. Monday morning Quarter Backing is a WIN, WIN Situation. You never lose.

Please don't start this crap again. If you want to turn this into yet another "Barnhart is the greatest" threads just stop. Accept the news for what it is and don't stir up the hornets nest for no reason. There is a reason why UK's football record under Barnhart is an absolute disaster. Let's not dive back into that again.

Give Mitch credit where it's due. Good move. But let's not act like this is some sort of visionary decision - it's a no brainer.
I want to see the details before I give credit. If it's a pay raise consistent with the top OCs in the league then it's a good deal. If it's another "Gran can leave any time he wants but UK is screwed royally if we fire him" kind of deals then Barnhart should be fired for doing a second time.

I'd rather he not pay off the Legislature with an $80M Science Bldg from funds procured from sports paying fans & donors to be allowed to bond the stadium changes & practices facilities, but I guess that's too much to ask of him. I mean really taxpayers & students ought to pay for the science building.

Exactly, Billy Clyde was the HOT coach at the time, and Billy Donovan was not leaving Florida. I am sure Mitch did not know what was coming in BCG's personal life. The job was just WAY too big for him.
As far as Joker, he seemed like a good hire at the time, success as an OC, solid recruiter, a Kentucky guy all the way, again the job was just too much for him.
