@Willy: Appreciate the thought. I must try that beer. Hope to find it around here somewhere. Thanks!

#338: Saint Arnold 20th Anniversary American Barleywine Ale. 11.2% ABV. If you can get this beautiful beer, then go for it by all means. Available in Texas, Colorado and Louisiana. Best Saint Arnold product ever! Super smooth and a creeper. Not as complex as a normal Saint Arnold offering. Cost $7.99 at our local Whole Foods. Solid A.

#339: Lagunitas Nighttime American Black Ale. 8.2% ABV. Great charcter. Mild sweetness. Beautiful mouthfeel and finish. Totally agree with Wesley. Lagunitas always delivers. Solid A.

Misc other:

- I joined the Texas craft beer group ("Texas Let's Talk Craft Beer") on Facebook. Group has over 4,800 members; it constantly updates at least 30 times per hour. Tons of ideas and beers to drink.

- Alltech plans to open a brewery and distillery in Pikeville, KY. Hooray for Pikeville and Pike County!

Austin Man, I saw a warning label on Laguintas Maximus. Said that it would eat the enamel off your teeth. No ****. said it. 100% truth.

Lagunitas Maximus is the only one of their beers I've had that I didn't care for. I've had almost all of them. It just had to much pine flavor in it for me.

Hope to sample Maximus one of these days. Really enjoyed pretty much everything else they offer so far.

For the people who just like a light beer...I met a guy in Birmingham who has started a new brand called Rammer Jammer. Honestly the best tasting beer I've ever had. The other great thing is their can looks like a regular Coke can so you can walk around anywhere drinking it and people think you're drinking Coke.

The guy told me they are trying to make a beer for the "high consumption market" such as tailgating and the like. It's currently only available in Alabama but will be in other SE states soon.

A lot of craft breweries are doing that. Hence session beers. Oh here pay $10.00 for this 6 pack with half the alcohol that the other sixers we are selling have in them for the same price.

Actually, their target price is $4.69/6pack.
They currently brew in Milwaukee to reduce costs, once they are licensed to sell in other states and have the volume to justify their own brewery it will be built/brewed in Birmingham. Said they would have to sell for $10 today if they built today at their present volume.

I can't accept any publication that had Augustinerbrau in the "good" category. It's effing excellent. Also their sass of Obolon out of the Ukraine as "poor" totally strange. All the while loving Dr. Dickhead's muffin turd IPA. Did women vote? A lot?

I guess the beer is abrasive.

Currently on my wishlist. Hope to score some soon.

Have a chance at some Kentucky Breakfast Stout, but $8 per bottle has me on the reluctant side.

Austin,

I hope you use untappd or something similar to keep up with your beers. I love using it just so I can make sure if I didn't like something that I don't drink it again. Can check if I've had it before and what I thought.

@LadyCat92: Yeah, TransyCat09 turned me on to Untapped late last year, but I've been lazy with updates. I still have something like 15+ beers or so to add to my total. Honestly, Willie and I drank a few brews together in Orlando back in March of this year and I've still been Mr Lazybutt on any documentation thereof. Considering my IT background, it is a relatively lame approach. You are right.

@Transy: if available, I may hit the bar which has KBS tomorrow PM. Pics are a must. Thanks!

Ladycat and Willy, what's yo usernames on untappd?

Austin, KBS is tied with Kentucky Dark Star and Goose Island Bourbon Barrel Coffee as far as coffee stouts (or any stouts) go. Seriously, the absolute best of the best. They do a CBS which is aged in Canadian whiskey barrels. I've never had it, as it is extremely rare, but everyone I know that has had it says it is truly out of this world. Just a heads up if you see it.

****'s expensive.

$5.99 for 1 12-oz bottle at the store. In pub terms, that's 8-oz for $25.00 a glass from the local "cool" 50 tapper.
Not on Untappd. Never heard of it. Is it a good board?

Austin. Def recommend.

Willy,

Untappd is an app that let's keep track of and rank all the beers you drink. You have followers kind of like twitter. I'm up to 400 unique brews since last August.

Hell Yes!! I just downloaded this. I already put in like 16 beers in 2 minutes. Keeps giving me badges. What do I do with them? Appreciate this. Very handy.

Transy -

My untappd id has my name in it, so I prefer not to post it here. If you're comfortable posting yours, I'll find you.

Beershits, you have a friend request.

Those badges are just little gimmcks. Some people really try and work for them (say drinking 10 Belgium beers to get the Belgian badge). I just drink a lot and get them naturally.

Also, rate those beers, brother. Let the world know what you think about that ****.

Austin. Will look you up in a awhile. I've been too damn busy adding beers. I'm up to 164. Got lots more to go too. And I know I'm leaving ones off. I figured once I get up to date on everything I will review the new ones that I add to my list. Too many to go back. This app is awesome. woo hoo! Going to store for beer now. Transy is the man!

I gave up trying to get all of my beers into it. If I remember one, I will add it, but I just add as I go now. I'd love to get all of the beers entered that I've tried on business travel across Europe and Asia.

I've become obsessive about mine:

1) I only check in beers I've never had

2) I check it in instantly

3) I usually drink new brews with my best friend out here, so I just check his every couple of days to see if I forgot something.

4) Based on everything I just typed, it's safe to say I use untappd like a 14 year old uses Twitter

I posted this when I first told Austin about it, but the guy I always drink with has checked in 1,328 unique brews and 1,996 total. He is also a 130 lb vegan.

Transy- Damn- 1,996 beers? I figure Austin has to be near 1,000 or more. I'm now at 300 something and had to look up a liquor store here in Orlando to see the ones that I've forgotten. I've got about 100+ to add.

Okay, couple notes here.

- @Transy: Yeah, I follow the same rules about unique beer check-ins. Very impressed with you and your friend.

- I plan to add all the beers from "Great Beer" v.1 and v.2 threads here shortly. Many pics from previous years are on my other computer. So, just a heads-up if y'all see lots of activity on Untappd.

- @Willy: Remember our meetup at Redlight Red Light before I split for the FL Keys? I have pics of one beer that you may or may not have included in your total. Remember the smoked beer? Well, it was a Left Hand Ambidextrous #6 Smoked Weizenbock (7.9% ABV). The pic below is that particular beer, while the menu is shamelessly ripped from Redlight Red Light Facebook page from that evening. Really good beer, by the way. Had a blast partying with ya, brother.

Okay, except for some "ash and trash", such as Guinness or Modelo, my count stands at 399. 99% of the beers I've sampled over the past few years are finally listed. Many include pics.

Ya know, I finally figured why I don't drink more European beers tonight. I had a GD epiphany. Frankly, I am getting sick of getting ripped off for. 0.8 ounces of beer. Ya know, That's complete ********. 11.2 oz beers. Why hasn't the beer lobby did something about this? It's ****** enough that World of Beers charges me $8 bucks for 8 oz draft of a double IPA> I also had another epiphany, if I work harder and made more money, I wouldn't give an eff I was only getting 11.2 ounces of beer. Somewhere there is a moral to this..

.

I hear ya, but doubt the US beer lobby has much influence over Europe and their milliliters.

Looking like Stone will soon be releasing a Coffee flavored Milk Stout in 6 packs.
Count me in as one that will give it a try.

Can't wait to try this.

I drank a few Milk Stouts by the Duck Rabbit brewery out of North Carolina just last night. Great stuff! I visiting TN and KY right now.

Question: local beer store, Pappy's in Ewing VA, has Dogfish Head 120 for $42 a 4-pack. Should I go for it while here?

Can you buy singles of it? I'd buy one or two singles if you can. GD beer is starting to reach 1980 cocaine prices.

No, just per 4-pack. I think I will purchase it, drink two (one for me and one for my ex-brother in-law) and cellar the remaining two at a relatives' place in the area. May store 'em at my mom's after checking with the renters. According to all the beer heads on my Facebook group, Dogfish Head 120 cellars well, is really hard to find and makes for great trading material
