Makes me want him at NU even more. Had to become a man at a young age and isn't afraid to talk about his experiences and show emotion. Tremendous athlete and even better person from all indications.

Only has great things to say about NU and the prospect of playing with his best friends. He's polished so I'm sure he has plenty of praise for his other favorites, but still hopeful NU can reel him in.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a great young man. Is he a shut down corner or is it too soon to know that?

Probably too soon to know, but good a chance as any.

Remember the Ole Miss senior walk-on vs Bama 5* freshman scenario that played out this past year.

What I find interesting is the kid seems to have a lot of "best friends." I don't say that as a negative as the kid seems outgoing and likable. On the other hand, he also claims incoming Michigan freshman David Long is his best friend and his cousin (who he called his brother in the interview) changed his twitter account header to a Michigan edit. I would not be surprised, one bit, if he has other "best friends" either attending or highly interested in the other schools on his list.

Again, I'm not trying to say that him being friendly is a bad thing (nor that KJJ and Gebbia aren't close to him) but rather that I've stopped reading into these connections one way or another. I also think he is the type of kid who will have equally great things to say about whichever school (in his top group) he is asked about and is well aware of the audience he is talking to. For example, after giving the linked interview above he told a Michigan reporter that Michigan was in his top 3 and he wasn't sure who the other two are. I don't think he was being intentionally dishonest but I do think he was holding back a bit so that he gave what would be a positive interview to Michigan fans...meaning I do think he knows who the other two are (NU being one of them) and Michigan fans shouldn't take that as we lead.

If you're not willing to make mountains out of tweets, you're going to miss out on a lot of message board threads about these kids.

Want to hear the funny thing? The reason that a couple Michigan reporters called the kid yesterday is because the headline of the article/video posted above: Decision Nearing for Holmes.

Ok...maybe the writer just forgot the question mark or something (won't accuse him of pure click bait) but the headline is not correct...in fact he says he is pushing back his decision and has no timetable. However, I guess the headline got around and reporters started building mountains...

You're probably right. I just repeated the language he used. If he chooses NU, I'm sure it will be due to his relationships with the coaches and a belief that he can be more successful here vs. playing with friends, although the latter can't hurt.

More than anything, I was impressed by his interview. Makes me want him N regardless of his 5* rating.

He's CLEARLY a shut down corner that's as good as any CB in the country. A member of Ohio State's staff reportedly said he put on the best camp performance by a corner back they had ever seen at their Friday night lights camp last July:

"THE STANDOUTS
Aside from the Ohio State commitments, a handful of visitors opened eyes around the stadium but none more than Calabasas, Calif., defensive back Darnay Holmes was in lockdown mode the entire night and was exceptionally physical but ran step-for-step with each receiver he squared off against. Holmes is a rocked-up 5-foot-11 and 190-pounds and showed himself to be the quintessential cover cornerback. One Ohio State coach told me that Holmes may have been the "best cornerback we've ever had in camp." "
http://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-...te-targets-commitments-highlight-big-night-at

Unfortunately the fact he's so good also means Coach Jimmy Hairball has already gone to his usual shady recruiting tactics of offering a Michigan scholarship to Holmes' cousin Desean, who has so many problems Chuck Long apparently kicked him off San Diego State's team in only two days:
http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2015/sep/01/desean-holmes-leaves-sdsu-football-school/

There are rumors that Darnay prefers Stanford if he can get past their admissions office (smart kid, can't blame him there), but who knows, I'm sure Nebraska has a great shot with the major work Coach Riley is doing in CA.

WOW...oh heck...I'm not surprised a bucknut would be so uniformed and say something as stupid and insensitive as you did. Desean does not have an "offer" from Michigan. If he did he would be at Michigan because he is no longer a "recruit." He signed a LOI and received grant in aid. It is technically a transfer situation and if he had an "offer" he could come now.

What he has is a staff that has heard his story and not given up on him...they are willing to consider taking him if he gets things in order. He is from a broken home and as your linked article says was living in a foster home (and as your own linked article says he left, he did not get kicked out...don't make stuff up). He has a lot of work do and needs as much support as possible even if it's just a program saying "hey I hope it works out for you and if it does let's talk." It's called having a heart...something apparently you don't have.

LMFAO, that's clearly all semantics, Chuck Long clearly said he was not welcome back on the team, but sure, he was never kicked off the team so I made that up. So he's being recruited by Harbaugh to Michigan to try to lure his cousin and doesn't technically have an offer, big freaking difference, especially considering everybody has seen Harbaugh's offers are worthless anyway because the guy's word is clearly meaningless. The entire country has seen Harbaugh's "heart" at work over the last year and a half. I'm sure Erik Swenson appreciated Harbaugh's "heart" when the slimeball cut him right before signing day when half the other teams that had offered him were then full and couldn't take him. I'm sure the numerous family members and coaches of elite recruits that Harbaugh has hired were all out of merit and purely from the goodness of his heart too.

That's not an aberration either, its Harbaugh's standard method of operation, everybody knows it, the guy is a classless slimeball. His last recruiting class at Stanford had an absolutely ridiculous EIGHTEEN DE-COMMITMENTS!!!! Please tell us more about Harbaugh's heart, what a hilarious freaking joke.

From the article you linked:

"Long said Holmes failed to show up for a morning weightlifting session on Friday. A graduate assistant went to retrieve him from his dorm room and Holmes had packed up and left."

The kid left and was not "kicked off the team." If Long and SDSU decided afterward that he was not welcome back that is their choice. But you saying he was kicked off the team is a fabrication...aka a lie.

As is your account of what happened with Swenson. He was told in the early fall that his schollie was in jeopardy. His own HS coach has gone on record saying as much. He was flat out told to look around and a couple other recruits who were put in the same situation (who didn't end up in our class either) said they were told the same thing and respected that they were told that (and got the message). Again, Swenson's coach confirmed that he was told in the early fall. He was not a Harbaugh recruit (verballed to Hoke) and they were honest with him...it's not like what happened with the commit Urban dropped just a couple weeks ago that verballed to Urban himself.

BTW, Harbaugh has done exactly what Urban just recently did...just pointing out your hypocrisy. My point of not having a heart mainly has to do with you. Not only did you get the facts on the Desean situation 100% wrong...your lie makes you seem like a cold hearted SOB.

Let's get real for a second. Michigan is interested in Desean Holmes because they are really interested in Darnay Holmes. That's not called "having a heart." That's called using your family to pressure you into committing to your school. I'm not saying Nebraska is above anything like that, but it's not quite as noble as you make it out to be.

Michigan recruited Desean when he was a prep player. Before Darnay became a target for us. If you are saying that he might be back on our radar because of Darnay I will not deny that. However, the bucknut's painting of what is going on is not close to accurate. There is way more to this story.

Man, c'mon. According to the recruit profiles I looked at, he didn't have a Michigan or Ohio State offer. Don't act like this is merely an extension of an ongoing recruiting process. I'm perfectly fine with it, just don't try to make the rest of us go through the same mental gymnastics you go through to make us believe Harbaugh is anything but a stone cold, win-at-all-costs, step on anyone to get ahead coach/recruiter. That's what you wanted and that's what you got.

Michigan recruited him and then stopped recruiting him because he has issues to deal with. That was a couple years ago. Michigan is not a charity and it is not obligated to continue recruiting a player just because they started to.

I'm not going to say that Desean and Michigan would have reconnected without Darnay. I honestly don't know all the details. What I do know is the story that the bucknut is trying to tell is incorrect. Harbaugh didn't "offer" Desean. He's no longer a HS recruit. If he had an "offer" he would be in Ann Arbor as a transfer. Why is this so hard for you people to understand? There is a lot more to this story. If the kid deals with his issues he might have a place in A2...he might...at the moment he doesn't but people like you want to make more of it than it is and in the process attack the kid. It's sad really that you can't see it...

LMFAO!!! My lie? Urban told a committed player a year before signing day he would have to grayshirt. I don't make excuses for that, it's shady and is unbecoming of a major college program, but it's still not even close to the level of shadiness that is Harbaugh's standard operating procedure. The kid had over a year to go anywhere he wanted with all his options in tact, Harbaugh blatantly cuts people a few weeks from signing day. Now that's one player in 4 years in Columbus, Harbaugh had EIGHTEEN DE-COMMITS in his last class at Stanford, and has clearly done much, much worse to players over and over and over and over again.

As far as Erik Swenson goes, you are either freakishly ignorant or a blatant pathological liar. Your claims about his coach are clearly blatant lies, which comes as no surprise as they match perfectly your hilarious description of the Desean Holmes situation.

DIRECTLY FROM ERIK SWENSON'S COACH'S MOUTH:

Coach: Michigan didn't tell Erik Swenson to consider other options until early January

ANN ARBOR -- Erik Swenson's high school football coach says the former Michigan commit wasn't told by the program's coaching staff to consider other options until early January. And even then, there wasn't an indication his scholarship would be pulled -- which is what happened earlier this week, according to the four-star offensive tackle.

Mark Molinari, Swenson's prep coach at Downers Grove South in Illinois, says Michigan offensive line coach Tim Drevno called in early January to tell him that Swenson should take other official visits.

"Coach Drevno called and said 'we're going to encourage Erik to take his five visits,'" Molinari said Friday evening. "I asked him specifically 'Are you pulling his offer?' The answer was 'No, we just want to continue to feel each other out.' I said 'Coach, are you pulling his offer?' and the answer was no.

"He was never told (in the fall) that you're being re-evaluated. We wouldn't have put ourselves in this position (if he was). Erik didn't have any official visits to go on and he hadn't gone any because he hadn't planned on going anywhere but the University of Michigan."

Molinari says Swenson was not asked to attend any Michigan camp this summer and was not given any indication that his scholarship was in jeopardy until early January.

Swenson and Molinari attended the Michigan-Ohio State game Nov. 28. During that trip, Molinari says Swenson had contact with Drevno and was not given "any indication that this wasn't going to work out."

"The truth is, Erik's season was completed at the end of October and the beginning of November. If they weren't happy with his play, then they had the opportunity to tell him from November into all of December," Molinari said. "But we never had anything close to a conversation like that until the beginning of January. And even then, we were told they're not pulling his scholarship, but that they wanted him to explore and take all of his visits.

Messages on a message board? The horror.

Why not join the premium board that is comprised of only Nebraska fans if fans of opposing schools discussing B1G issues that are clearly very relevant to Nebraska bothers you?

It's also very easy to put either/both of us on ignore.

How about you run home. The idiotic statements spewed from your mouth are absolutely hilarious.
You have a 10-cent head to call an opposing coach a liar, while coming here to defend a drunken baby like Zach Smith who rants on Twitter. Good Lord you are stupid.

Wow, like I said I would highly recommend you use the ignore feature, it's amazing and scary how many young people today need safe spaces to protect their feelings from scary words and opinions in this day and age.

I've clearly added several valuable pieces of information to this thread on Darnay Holmes,
while you've added..........

Yes. You have added a ton. Speaking of safe spaces....A Buckeye douche that defends a trashheap of a coach, complaining about Michigans coach (and demanding to do it on a Husker board).
You are just too much. Speaking of ignore, why can't you use it? Oh wait, it's probably because your boards are either closed to outsiders or don't have free boards. And if your own fanbases could stand you, there would be no reason for your pathetic pissing matches here.
You are pathetic. No amount of changing the narrative to make yourself feel special will change that
