"I was here four out
of the 100 years. Most people act like I
was here the whole hundred."

And the Cubs lost to the Reds 3-2 in 10 innings. Only 10.5 back.

If Sylvester Croom ever got back into college coaching, I have a feeling that his quote would be very similar. And very similarly would be stupid.

Dusty had one good season, and then he goes beserk when Bartman drops that foul ball, blames the loss of the guy- nevermind Alex Gonzalez's error that kept the inning going, or his inability to pull Mark Prior when he was starting to get hit, and then the last few seasons were crap. I can understand why Cubs fans don't like him.

He had that MO enough coming in that I, no baseball guru, called that he would ruin them. Cubs fault for hiring him, and sitting by while he overpitched them (which was a key ingrediant in that one good year, btw).

Didn't he eventually have to leave Chicago?

but when Kerry Wood was in high school in Texas, he threw back to back doubleheaders for the State Championship and ended up piling up some ridiculous pitch count total- it was over 200- in one day.

A lot of scouts were leery about Wood breaking down even then.

What odds would you have given on that back in 2003? No book, no reality show, no sidekick job with wacky morning dj. I respect the guy for that.

That would be like me "costing" the Cardinals the World Series Championship, or at least taking the blame for it, and then making a celebrity career off of it.

I wouldn't really be much of a fan if I did that.

I mean here he was probably as big of a Cub fan as anybody out there and then in an instant on a play where he just sort of reacted to reach for the ball and probably never even saw the Cub outfielder get over there to have a potential play, instantly becomes the villian who helps carry on the Cub curse. Certainly not what he expected as he sat down in his seat to enjoy the game that night.
