If somehow Polk wasn't coaching and Jones was pulled, then he would have left Statz in to give up 8 runs. If somehow Polk wasn't coaching and Statz was pulled, then he would have left Reed in to give up 8 runs.

In short, if Polk was coaching that game, we would have lost by 5+ runs.
