They made a successful bid to bring the high school football state championships from legion field to being played in whichever team's stadium is not hosting the iron bowl. I think this is a great deal for them. This is good for recruiting. Imagine the high school kids getting to play in those stadiums and knowing what it feels like to run out of those tunnels. Its baseically a free pass on a recruiting violation

The only issue I have with it is that the powers that be want it on a rotation of 4 (MSU, Ole Miss, USM, JSU). I say screw JSU and USM but there is a different mentality in Mississippi than in Alabama.

While the athletic departments of both institutions had to be involved and agreeable, they were not at the forefront of the proposal. Some local Auburn people formed a Sports Council of some sorts. They successfully hosted the Dixie Youth World Series about five years ago as well. It's just too bad it has to start in Ttown this year. Auburn High is #1 in the state (over Hoover and Prattville) with a chance to play in that game. While it would be nice to have that game here, I am sure those boys would be fine winning a state championship in Bryant-Denny. It's been sort of a home away from home for Auburn teams for years.

On a Mississippi note, could State, UM and Southern come together and offer a similar proposal to the MHSAA?

Take out Southern and I think we could make it work.

I am no USM fan, but I think it is only fair to schools from the Coast and South Mississippi that we offer them a location that is in their area.

Seriously though, I would bet the majority of high school teams would love playing at MSU or OM's field.

no other school matters at all. They could care less about any other option CUSA, Sun Belt, OVC, and SWAC schools don't count. You are either Aub of Bamer over there.

that's why if something like this does happen in MS, it'll be a 4-stadium rotation between um, msu, usm, and jsu.

we let jason campbell's taylorsville team play at scott field his senior year (early in the year), but that didn't work out too well for us. i don't remember any other HS games on campus.

You also have to figure that the decision makers are from all over the state, and the votes from people from South Mississippi and the coast count just the same.

Here's another idea. Put three per year at one of the venues.
Year one: 1, 3, and 6 in Starkville
2, 4, and 5 in H'burg

Year two: 1,3, and 6 in H;burg
2, 4, and 5 in Oxford

Year three: 1, 3 and 6 in Oxford
2, 4 and 5 in Starkville

And a couple of the other schools (Jacksonville State, South Alabama, Alabama State) host regional basketball tournaments.

If you gave State, Ole Miss and Southern rotating football championships, you could give regional basketball to JSU's on-campus arena and keep basketball at the Mississippi Coliseum. I'd be okay with that.

Play the south state semi-finals at USM every year and rotate the north state semi-finals between MSU and UM (whichever doesn't host the Egg Bowl). Then continue to play the finals in Jackson. Almost every school in the state can get to Jackson in 3 hours or less.

Maybe driving time you are right Fishwater, but would you rather attend a game at Vaught-Hemingway or Memorial? Same in Alabama. Birmingham is more centrally located but the large majority of the state would probably prefer to drive to Auburn or TTown to avoid having to deal with Legion Field. I would also agree that both ends of that situation are more extreme in Alabama. In other words, Legion Field < Memorial (in a close one), but Bryant-Denny and Jordan-Hare >>> Vaught-Hemingway and Scott Field.

I've covered high school championship games and there have been several instances where a newspaper or tv station had multiple finalists hailing from its coverage area.

We're talking high school sports here. For most schools a 2 hour road trip is a long trip. It doesn't make much sense to always have the state championship games in the northern third of the state. One other difference between Alabama and Mississippi is that both Tuscaloosa and Auburn are more centrally located to the population centers of Alabama than Starkville and Oxford are to the population centers of Mississippi.

The private School system (MAIS?? now) Actually doesnt even know where their championships will be held because the championship currently falls Thanksgiving weekend and MC (where they've been having it) usually lets their workers off that week and are having issues coming to a deal or saying no

BTW, Millsaps was supposed to host last year but they made the D3 playoffs... And MC is leading their D3 conference. They might end up having the A & AA championship games at East Rankin again.

is that there is the possibility of allowing a "home game" to whichever team deserves it. Would be great for those schools, god awful for the league. The games NEED to be at the same place. But, assuming my former school gets to host, I won't be too upset
