I just finished watching this documentary. Man those Nazi's were some sick, sadistic son of a guns. Obviously they were cowards as well as most either tucked tail to run or just killed themselves to avoid what was coming to them.

Nazis did some hellacious and atrocious things. Some of them were cowards and many were outright sadistic and literal xenophobes.

but they were also extremely talented and ferocious fighters who continued in the path of clear defeat and to the death of brainwashed thousands. One thing I think that has never been in question is their talent for war.

having said all that, glad the good guys won. If not many of us would not be here.

I've watched several episodes and it's pretty good. Scary that the US is repeating history of Deutschland circa 1936 today with a particular party and lots of really persuasive people.

Oh yes it’s so very similar.

I saw on the show that the German army was being fed a steady supply of meth. That is how they were able to fight for days on end and had no fear and a ruthless aggression.

They used to have the collection of films used as evidence at the Nuremberg trials. That was extremely sad to watch. It makes Schindler's List look like a Disney movie.

Will check this one out.

Edit: Had an interesting talk with my doctor recently. Told me that a lot of modern orthopedic surgery methods were developed by the Nazis. US doctors studied what had been done to former POWs because they had better outcomes than US wounded being treated at US hospitals.

That war stamped out one disgraceful ideology (Nazism) but allowed the other to flourish (socialism). This is why the world is repulsed by Nazism (actually a form of socialism) but almost completely ignorant to the evils of socialism itself.

Read Gulag Archipelago or for more modern reading Simon Sebag Montefiore's Court of the Red Tsar and Young Stalin.

Only a few hundred nazis were executed for war crimes or crimes against humanity. Most of the rest were given small sentences or found innocent. In order to be found guilty of a war crime in Germany, eye witnesses had to testify against someone. That made prosecutions harder as so many witness were dead.

One lessor known facts is that some of the worst atrocities were committed by non-Germans especially in the Baltic States and Ukraine. The nazis used local SS recruits and local police units to murder jews and suspected communists in those countries. In some cases, regular citizens were encouraged to pull jews off the streets and beat them to death for having cooperated with the Soviets in prior years.

Lastly, the Nazis were awful but were not as bad as the Soviets or Red Chinese in the murder department.

Patton urged our government to immediately attack Russia after defeating the Nazi, despite being allies.

Russia was immediately exposed as an enemy state at the conclusion of the war.
Every country knew it long before the conclusion but they needed Russia to win the war, they operated under the lesser of two evils premise. Russia had a massive amount of soldiers but America supplied them with core metals to produce tanks, weapons and vehicles.

You’re just now finding out about WWII? The nazis were monsters but don’t forget about the Japanese. Google “the rape of Nanking”. Or Unit 731.

Agreed. Also the Japanese were much worse to allied P.O.W.s than the Germans. P.O.W.s were often worked to death as slave labor and in some cases used as human guinea pigs by the Japanese. Often allied airmen were executed if captured by Japanese.

"Nearly 50,000 U.S. soldiers and civilians became prisoners of wars. Nearly half were forced to work as slave laborers. About 40 percent of American POWs died in Japanese captivity (by contrast only 1 percent died in Nazi camps)."
