I realize this is kinda choosing the smartest kid in special ed, but another thread got me thinking. I personally like Omar Conner for this dubious honor.

glad to see he beat out Dixon and Norwood.

I will agree he was the most under utilized. It's criminal the way Croom used him.

Not sure what the criteria is, but Ronald Fields, The white RT for the Titans, Antonio Johnson, all played Croom and Derreck Sherrod signed under him. Thats 4 NFL linemen.

I should have been a little more specific in my original post. I meant it to kind've be like a-- "the best player who did the least due to Croom's terrible coaching but could have been a lot better under Mullen."--type thread.

So yeah, Dixon and Norwood are clearly both better than Conner, I agree with that.

Speaking of Conner, didn't he have a cousin that came on here and defended his honor in every bad thread about him? I think it was 05. No specific reason, I'm just trying to remember if it was him, and curious if his relative is still posting.

I played against Connor in high school. That dude was a beast. He drug me and another guy about 10 yards while we were hanging on his back and still threw a TD to Joey Sanders,I think was the reciever. Its sad that Croom did not use his talents better.

That dude had NFL type talent. Perhaps Co-Eric Riley should be mentioned as well. It's hard to play WR when your QB sucks.

Derek Pegues has to be mentioned. He should have been "our secret weapon" as a wildcat.

I was surprised that we couldn't find a spot for Anthony Sumners.

Josh Riddell was actually probably the best QB that Croom had at MSU, but he got in Croom's doghouse. He was even getting criticized for throwing TD passes- "Yeah, but he made the wrong read" to quote Croom.

Maybe Keith Andrews at kicker. Why was he benched again?

Can I mention Darren Williams to? Joey Sanders. Etc.

I know the guy always had alot of hype and I know his QB sucked, but I never saw much in him. He was good at MGCC, but never did ANYTHING at MSU.

The best catch he ever made got called back against Tulane, correct?

GD That was the worst for me , Croom benching Andrews over Carlson. That told me that croom didn't give a **** about winning here. He played inferior players over better ones , kept Mccorvey which was an act of theft , and constantly poor mouthed how bad our program was in hopes of stealing another years salary out of us.

But there was an interview with Depasquale on BDJ a week or so ago. I just had a chuckle when he explained that he actually transferred here before Croom's last year and tried to walk on. Croom basically told him he was full at kicker and blew him off. Depasquale told how he sat in the student section and watched as Croom's roster full of kickers missed 22 yarders to lose games. All I could think of was how lucky we were Croom was dumb enough to turn a decent kicker away or else he may have survived another year if his kicker had just been average.

Sidenote: The article also cleared up some confusion among State folks. Depasquale is actually just a JR on the field this season and still has one more to play. I found some comfort in that knowing we at least had a decent PK coming back next year and that both he and Brachle are not SR's. This despite the MSU Media Relations folks constant listing of him as a SR on the roster.

As for this thread, there are very few players that will have any ALL-Anything success for us, or on the next level that were actually recruited and signed by Croom. Obviously a few, but most were either Jackie leftovers or will have been guys Mullen has brought in. The gap in between is about as well stocked as the Barnhill's Buffetafter Croom tilted his cap and walked out the door with his toothpick hangin on his lip.

NFL linemen
NFL receivers
NFL RBs
An great mobile QB that he 1) fattened up and 2) tried to turn into a pro set QB

Hell, dare I say Croom had some of the most offensive talent we've ever seen in a 4-5 year stretch?

Croom had all the ingredients. What a waste.

why you wouldn't WANT a mobile QB for any offense. Even if it is a pro-style offense. Heck, Steve Young, Randall Cunningham, Roger Staubach, Fran Tarkenton, Vick, and even Joe Montana had some running ability, and all were successful in the NFL.

A guy that can scramble is as good a weapon on any play as compared to anything else.

and even the few Crooms added to it, and he just 17'ed it up worse than anybody could. As much **** as I give some of you, alot of you could have hired better asst's and run a better program.

The way he poor-mouthed year after year but the talent that he had in hindsight just pisses me off so damn bad

Maine had more talent than us? Really you stupid coachsucker? Why did he never ask his buddies in the NFL who had more talent?

<div id="refHTML"></div>Pegasus was THE most overrated player in the Croom error. He was a below average return man and a VERY average safety. In coverage, he made more mistakes than he caused. Nothing special about him other than his potential, which he never used.
