His WR's were bad and would drop balls left and right.
Bad? The 2001 crew was horrendous. When your QB gets frustrated enough to laser a pass that gets stuck in your facemask, you've got issues. Yet here we are, saying Craig Stump, the coach for those same horrible receivers (minus Justin Jenkins) knew Fant was better. If Fant was so much better, particularly in 2000, why'd we lose that Egg Bowl? It's not like Wayne didn't spot him a TD before throwing up.

He was surrounded by the best talent MSU has ever seen. Possibly the best talent in the league during those 4 or 5 years. He only gets mentioned in the top 5 due to that and his winning percentage.

I agree.....those who are too young to have seen Rocky play have no idea how good he was. I would put him 3rd behind Jackie Parker (no question he was #1) and John Bond. Rocky was absoulutely great at running the veer.

you're going to wonder why Fant couldnt lead us to victory in the last game of the season, after throwing 15 passes all year coming into the game, without practicing with the starters all week to get ready, and is just thrown into the game in the 2nd quarter? Really?

And as bad as that 2001 crew was- Fant completed 55% of his passes that season to Wayne's 50%...Fant had 8 TD passes to Wayne's 5 in 15 fewer passes on the season...Fant threw for 350 more yards on 15 fewer passes...

The evidence speaks for itself- not just what Stump said- head-to-head, Fant was clearly better

Well, I had a coach once tell me the only reason we recruited Dockery was to get Deljuan Robinson. Where the hell is Dockery?

.....as for the rest......what is the point. We won't miss Dixon either.

that according to Stump, Fant had been the better QB "for a year". That would go back to the middle of the 2000 season. Considering how easy Wayne made it look while starting the Egg Bowl with the flu, yes, I would still expect a better QB to come off the bench and win that game.
As for the 2001 stats, I'd have to go back to box scores, but IIRC, Wayne went out after having played all of our ranked SEC opponents plus eventual conference champions LSU. Throw out the Troy State tornado game, and the competition is a tad stiffer for the senior.
