From Brad Locke's blog

I spoke with athletics director Greg Byrne this afternoon. We discussed a few things, but mostly football. He was guarded in his comments, as you'd expect, but he answered the tough questions. The most interesting thing he said, in my opinion: "I will sit down with each head coach at the end of the season, and we'll talk about what we're doing well and what we need to do better. That will become a standard practice at the end of each season."</p>

So if you're wondering, that's how he plans on dealing with coach Sylvester Croom. If you're expecting something to "happen" before then, I wouldn't count on it.</p>

Byrne said he has heard from several fans. He said he's heard praise for the defense and, yes, criticism of the offense (he got no more specific than that). He said he understands MSU fans' "passion," as he called it. "After every game, there's always a lot of emotion. We'd much rather there be emotion and people caring than have apathy."</p>

As most of y'all know, Noxubee County WR Pat Patterson backed off his commitment to MSU. While Byrne can't talk specifically about that, he sees no reason to panic about the recruiting. "We have a lot of confidence in our coaches' abilities to recruit kids coming to Mississippi State, the kids that we want, and the kids that want to be here. … There's a lot of time between now and the first Wednesday in February (national signing day). Obviously the coaches are working on recruiting every single day."</p>

The theme Byrne drove home during the interview: Don't panic, be patient.</p>

"What we're going to focus on right now is doing everything we can to support our student-athletes and our coaches. We have a lot of football left."</p> </div>
If only Crxxm would take some advice on how to talk to the media he wouldn't be humiliating himself anymore than he does through his xffense. Crxxm needs to take Gene's idea and spend a day with Greg Byrne and learn how Byrne is in search of whats best for MSU and not be so damn stubborn. 17ing change up the xffense. don't be an *** to the fans and the media. Be reserved like Greg Byrne </div>

You may as well try to get Coach34 to admit he's wrong (without promising to remove his nickname and give him free chat).

I really think McCorvey's health is an easy out after the season. I think we will have a new OC for next year. A new offensive scheme - I am not 100% sure on that.

equivalent to "Croom changing his stripes?" If anything, Croom would only point to McCorvey's departure and say he changed the offense because he "lost" his OC, not because his system sucks [Dr. McKittrick]. Croom, at this juncture, is simply incapable of admitting error. Ergo, his offense would not be the problem, losing his OC would be "the problem."

And exactly why am I arguing with you over this when all the F we want is a new OC and for Croom to stay the hell out of it?

Croom has admitted as much this week when he says that he calls the plays.

You could have any OC you want, but if he isn't calling the plays what does it matter?

Its the same thing we had at Ole Miss, I never did understand why people wanted a new OC, when everyone knew Cut was calling the plays.

the OC is basically a figurehead. And I think Croom is telling some BS on that because I could have sworn he said earlier this year he listens to the plays called but doesn't call them. I think he is trying to take the heat off of McCorvey.

But, if Croom could take somewhat of a hands off approach and we get a new OC to install his own system, that would be ideal. Will it happen - probably not.

same thing. I don't know how many OC's he went through while he was there, but it was a good many. He would hire one and then not let him do his job, and then fire his *** when things went south. On the other hand, Saban let Jimbo Fisher handle the whole damn thing, and look at the results. I know Saban is primarily a defensive guy, and don't know how much slack he gives his DC.

This is what separates Byrne from LT.

...he would go to SC and say" Coach, I am unable to do this job to the best of my ability. Put someone else in there" From what I know of the man...thats exactly what he would do.

....and I think there are two logical explanations: 1) WM is not really ill. His surgery was for something relatively minor, and the rumor about a serious illness is nothing more than conjecture or 2) WM is seriously ill, but doesn't feel bad yet and believes he can still do his job, plus he thinks he would be letting his friend down and putting him in a bad position if he quit on him in mid-season, so he is planning on hanging on as long as he can.

Maybe the guy is just tagging along for the money? When Crxxm is doing all the offensive coaching McCxrvey is just taking his pay checks.</p>

Where did he say that anyone was "faking a kidney removal." He said what a lot of people, including myself, believe is the case. Woody went in for a minor surgery, possibly kidney stone removal, and now a rumor about cancer/kidney removal has taken on a life of its own. Since no one in a position to confirm one way or the other will come out and do so, that theory is as good as any other. At this point very few people know what the hell is going on.

....nobody said anything about faking a kidney removal. Nobody even knows for sure what kind of surgery it was. And even if he did have a kidney removed, he could be fully recovered and the part about the illness may just be rumor. Jesus Christ. It's like talking to a brick wall.

...you are the dumbest person I have ever come across. I am not implying that he is faking anything. I am implying that maybe he is not really sick. Maybe he had surgery and is fine now. The ONLY PEOPLE WHO HAVE SAID THAT HE IS ILL HAVE BEEN FANS. THAT HAS NOT COME FROM THE COACHES OR THE UNIVERSITY. I AM IMPLYING THAT IT MIGHT JUST BE RUMOR THAT HE IS SICK. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?

...and I know that it was rumored strongly to be a kidney, but nobody has officially said that. If you can find me a link that proves such, I'll admit I'm wrong.

And aGAIN, I don't dispute that he had surgery, I am disputing that he is sick right now.
