Since Schiano doesn't receive part or any NIL funds or revenue share you're basically saying Keli should punish the program in an effort to get rid of him over his expecting her to honor his contract.
Telling the candidates for the next RU HC she wants to interview " it was a terrible situation "might work, but realistically it show them that when things look bad Zinn has a tendency to destroy any chance of making it better.

Thoigh it might be a good hardball move, it also stands a chance to come back and bite RU in the butt when it comes to getting the candidate deemed as good replacements to feel Rutgers won't try to short change them if things look a little dark by making sure they don't get the talent they need to win in an effort to get them to leave on her terms and not what Rutger's contractually obligated to do.
She would have proven by hard-balling Schiano the way you want Zinn to do ,is that Keli is willing to weaken the program just to get rid of someone she doesn't want

What needs to be done is try to offer Schiano a high enough buyout that pays him in full at less than he would be paid by taking his biweekly payments till his contract with Rutgers has ended and not give him a platform to excuse the losses his program endures by pointing out how Zinn mage sure the program couldn't bring in the talent to turn things around because Keli effectively sabotaged his ability to sign talent to the roster and made it impossible to field a winning team.

Here's an idea !! Zinn does what you want , but uses the NIL and revenue she holds back from Schiano and builds a football field-house with that money.
Then when Greg complains he didn't get the financial support he needed to field a winning team, Keli can call him a liar by pointing out Schiano was given the field-house of his dreams and that was the money he claims not to have received 🤔😁
You can have it put in the contract that the next coach gets x amount of rev share/NIL.

The field house isn’t a bad idea but it would take too long and cost far more than the NIl/rev share savings. I believe it’s also stipulated that if you partake in the rev share, it must go to athletes.

Anyone thinking Greg will accept less than a 100% of his buyout money might just be fooling themselves.
Schiano's chances of getting a College HC position is nil.
As for a high paying DC spot, I doubt he's considered a good candidate anymore since his RU D has stunk for awhile and his last year as the Buckeyes DC was underwhelming.

He milked the Tampa buyout until he landed the OSU co DC with one year left in buyout and he probably knew that if he didn't find a good position before the money dried up, he might not find anything like what Urban was offering .
Greg Schiano won't commit to taking less than 100% unless he knows a good paying position is waiting out there for him

I can't see any P-4 program willing to pay the bucks and commit to the years he wants for Schiano top take one cent less than he's owed.
The only way he'd take less in a one time payout for more than half of what he's owed , so he doesn't have to get paid bi weekly unril the contract was due to expire.

But the best reason he won't accept less is Schiano's buyout dies not not required him to pursue other employment. .
Greg's contract includes a mitigation clause where the buyout is offset by any football coaching contract he signs in the future.
So he has more incentive to stay out of the coaching ranks then he does to coach while collecting RU buyout money.
I could see a scenario ( if he survives ) as DC on Belichek’s staff at NC. His only shot at being a head coach at D1 would be as interim if BB gets fired.

Could be absolutely fantastic seasons for MBB and WBB and other teams if football funding went to other sports. Then there can be a renewed focus on football once Rutgers hires a new coach.

I completely agree but then think about it - if your Zinn and this is the strategy, there’d be no reason to start in right this second with the hard ball stuff. Let him make his own bed over the next few weeks so that in the unlikely event of an unexpected turnaround she has the ability reassess / adjust her approach (extent of the hard ball stuff) if she wants to - she might not want to anyway but a rash decision right now without an immediate plan other than to openly scope the replacement field (with nobody in particular on the radar) doesn’t do anything for us. Waiting 2-3 weeks isn’t materially impacting our program.

The team was horribly unprepared for the first two games, or the team is bipolar. The team was fairly functional against USC. If THAT team can show up for 3 or 4 games on the schedule, namely, Maryland, Michigan State and perhaps Nebraska, Penn State and a demoralized Michigan, they have a puncher's chance in that order. No, not all of them, but 3 or 4 of them.
It was unacceptable they were not prepared for the first 2 games. That is on coaching and why Greg needs to go. You are much more optimistic than me. I see a team that maybe can stay close but will not get over the hump. Maybe not 1 game the rest of the way.

Playing hardball makes no sense and the university look bad. Schiano has a guaranteed contract, will never resign, and the school will pay him everything he is owed under the contract. The only decision is when to fire him.

He and Tampa paid his buyout, no? If so, he honored his contract.

Listen, I was just as pissed when he left when he did, but I doubt we'd need more than two hands to count the amount of HC's in FBS that would turn down a HC job in the NFL when it comes calling.

And it's not his fault that Pernetti hired Flood to replace him.
Leaving is not honoring!

Yes no other HC would turn down an NFL opportunity. Flip side no other school would allow Greggy’s ineptitude carry on this long. He would have been fired a long time ago.

Still waiting for a day when universities stop being stupid and put in that firing for cause includes 2 losing seasons in a row. Yeah, no agent or head coach would go for that, but it does not hurt to try.
