Since Schiano doesn't receive part or any NIL funds or revenue share you're basically saying Keli should punish the program in an effort to get rid of him over his expecting her to honor his contract.
Telling the candidates for the next RU HC she wants to interview " it was a terrible situation "might work, but realistically it show them that when things look bad Zinn has a tendency to destroy any chance of making it better.

Thoigh it might be a good hardball move, it also stands a chance to come back and bite RU in the butt when it comes to getting the candidate deemed as good replacements to feel Rutgers won't try to short change them if things look a little dark by making sure they don't get the talent they need to win in an effort to get them to leave on her terms and not what Rutger's contractually obligated to do.
She would have proven by hard-balling Schiano the way you want Zinn to do ,is that Keli is willing to weaken the program just to get rid of someone she doesn't want

What needs to be done is try to offer Schiano a high enough buyout that pays him in full at less than he would be paid by taking his biweekly payments till his contract with Rutgers has ended and not give him a platform to excuse the losses his program endures by pointing out how Zinn mage sure the program couldn't bring in the talent to turn things around because Keli effectively sabotaged his ability to sign talent to the roster and made it impossible to field a winning team.

Here's an idea !! Zinn does what you want , but uses the NIL and revenue she holds back from Schiano and builds a football field-house with that money.
Then when Greg complains he didn't get the financial support he needed to field a winning team, Keli can call him a liar by pointing out Schiano was given the field-house of his dreams and that was the money he claims not to have received 🤔😁
You can have it put in the contract that the next coach gets x amount of rev share/NIL.

The field house isn’t a bad idea but it would take too long and cost far more than the NIl/rev share savings. I believe it’s also stipulated that if you partake in the rev share, it must go to athletes.

Anyone thinking Greg will accept less than a 100% of his buyout money might just be fooling themselves.
Schiano's chances of getting a College HC position is nil.
As for a high paying DC spot, I doubt he's considered a good candidate anymore since his RU D has stunk for awhile and his last year as the Buckeyes DC was underwhelming.

He milked the Tampa buyout until he landed the OSU co DC with one year left in buyout and he probably knew that if he didn't find a good position before the money dried up, he might not find anything like what Urban was offering .
Greg Schiano won't commit to taking less than 100% unless he knows a good paying position is waiting out there for him

I can't see any P-4 program willing to pay the bucks and commit to the years he wants for Schiano top take one cent less than he's owed.
The only way he'd take less in a one time payout for more than half of what he's owed , so he doesn't have to get paid bi weekly unril the contract was due to expire.

But the best reason he won't accept less is Schiano's buyout dies not not required him to pursue other employment. .
Greg's contract includes a mitigation clause where the buyout is offset by any football coaching contract he signs in the future.
So he has more incentive to stay out of the coaching ranks then he does to coach while collecting RU buyout money.
I could see a scenario ( if he survives ) as DC on Belichek’s staff at NC. His only shot at being a head coach at D1 would be as interim if BB gets fired.

Could be absolutely fantastic seasons for MBB and WBB and other teams if football funding went to other sports. Then there can be a renewed focus on football once Rutgers hires a new coach.

I completely agree but then think about it - if your Zinn and this is the strategy, there’d be no reason to start in right this second with the hard ball stuff. Let him make his own bed over the next few weeks so that in the unlikely event of an unexpected turnaround she has the ability reassess / adjust her approach (extent of the hard ball stuff) if she wants to - she might not want to anyway but a rash decision right now without an immediate plan other than to openly scope the replacement field (with nobody in particular on the radar) doesn’t do anything for us. Waiting 2-3 weeks isn’t materially impacting our program.

The team was horribly unprepared for the first two games, or the team is bipolar. The team was fairly functional against USC. If THAT team can show up for 3 or 4 games on the schedule, namely, Maryland, Michigan State and perhaps Nebraska, Penn State and a demoralized Michigan, they have a puncher's chance in that order. No, not all of them, but 3 or 4 of them.
It was unacceptable they were not prepared for the first 2 games. That is on coaching and why Greg needs to go. You are much more optimistic than me. I see a team that maybe can stay close but will not get over the hump. Maybe not 1 game the rest of the way.

Playing hardball makes no sense and the university look bad. Schiano has a guaranteed contract, will never resign, and the school will pay him everything he is owed under the contract. The only decision is when to fire him.

He and Tampa paid his buyout, no? If so, he honored his contract.

Listen, I was just as pissed when he left when he did, but I doubt we'd need more than two hands to count the amount of HC's in FBS that would turn down a HC job in the NFL when it comes calling.

And it's not his fault that Pernetti hired Flood to replace him.
Leaving is not honoring!

Yes no other HC would turn down an NFL opportunity. Flip side no other school would allow Greggy’s ineptitude carry on this long. He would have been fired a long time ago.

Still waiting for a day when universities stop being stupid and put in that firing for cause includes 2 losing seasons in a row. Yeah, no agent or head coach would go for that, but it does not hurt to try.

Schools play hard ball all the time. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. LSU most certainly tried playing hardball with Kelly. It didn’t work, but they tried. Didn’t stop Kiffen from running there.

Nebraska is 5-0 (2-0 in the B1G) and averaging 43 points a game. They will easily hang 40+ on this pathetic Rutgers defense.
Yeah and @ Maryland , @ NW,@wisky, " @State Penn and Michigan State has a dual threat QB. We will see how this plays out and ;however, it plays out we still need a new HC at the end.

In the least, I imagine the possibility would be scoped out before pulling the plug. Simply because we don’t have some great interim option sitting around that’s going to rejuvenate the fan base anyway and the candidates Zinn is going to be interested in outside of Brian Kelly aren’t likely to be known entities at present time. And again - despite the fan base being “done” - Zinn would probably be happy for Greg to win the next 3 and at least give her the option to wait. For all these reasons, I don’t see much upside for her in making a move in October.

WE USED TO HAVE A COUPLE OF POSTERS "CLAIMING" to inside info on what's going on inside the AD department, true or not, I wish we did now. PS. On a side note, whatever happened to Mr.TV and his famous, "Take it to the Bank" predictions, right up there with Rutgers Al's when it came to accuracy.

Someone keeps coming into my work area and posting from my computer! Guy had a nametag-Al? 😜

In seriousness, if the planets align, nothing goes wrong for Rutgers, and Greg does not make any boneheaded decisions, I could see them eeking out 3 or 4 wins. 5 is a stretch for sure. But the eternal optimist flame in me is still flickering.

I hope he does. He’s not the long term answer anymore, but it would be better if he was around next year to lighten the buyout and let Zinn go all in on a big time signing. If he managed 4 wins, you might let him have a lame duck season in 2027.

Nebraska: beat two MAC teams, Ohio and Bowling Green (1-4), Missouri Valley Powerhouse North Dakota and fellow B1G basement dwellers Michigan State and Maryland. Woopty Doo. Let's see how they fare against Indiana, Oregon and Illinois before proclaiming them world beaters.
Are you really going to try to denigrate Nebraska’s undefeated record because they beat 2 MAC teams, when Rutgers was dominated by UMass?

Get back to us when Rutgers holds a competent FBS offense under 30.

Even an incompetent offense like BC, which averages 15 points in their other FBS games and only scored 22 against a bad FCS team Maine, scored 28 on RU.

Well, my point being if he suddenly wins a couple then maybe fans will show up just for the very least of being able to see a decent game that they’ve already committed money to as a season ticket holder. Versus an outright protest that just makes everybody feel terrible.
The team isn’t going to quit because he’s gone. They all immediately become free agents and are playing for their next gig whether here or in the portal. And it’s not 10 years ago, no more RS so quitting doesn’t do anything for their eligibility.

It's not a rash decision. It's year 7 and he's getting boat raced by Umass.

Yes. I said my piece. Until proven otherwise, Rhule has a track record. Maybe he will turn it around.
Denigration does not always involve comparison to Rutgers, which is a lousy measuring stick.
And for the last time, the transitive property does not apply. If it did, USC would lose to UMass.
Teams improve as the season goes on. Some teams get worse. It's hard to tell if Rutgers has improved or not.

That's not what I'm hoping for. IMO, he really needs to go at the end of this season at the latest. I respect your opinion, just do not agree with it, and that's what we are here for, polite disagreement without insults, well, at least some of us.

Let’s be clear - I don’t mean rash in that sense. I mean it in the sense that if she doesn’t have a clear immediate (next 2-3 week time frame) plan to help RU get in position to land someone currently available as our HC prospect, all it does is creates new transitional issues to manage with plugging an interim in that could be delayed. What are we getting out of it right this second? And please don’t say we’re landing a NIL deal instantly because Greg is gone. Any serious player in buying into our brand will wait and see what we do with the HC. 2-3 weeks will not matter in the long run. It just won’t. Fans are simply impatient but the 7 years are sunk costs at this point just as the next 2 weeks and beyond are since we already committed to pay him.

I’m not hoping for it either at this point. It’d be easier for there to be no doubt and he’s just gone. At the same time, I hope there is an executable plan to find a replacement Zinn truly wants long term vs someone she views as an upgrade over the current situation but not who her pick would’ve been if we didn’t have to burn the extra 15M or so to fire him a year earlier than we had hoped with the program in dire straights vs sitting in the stable mediocre land we were in the past 6 years. The situation stinks. That’s all there is to it and there’s no great answer.

Agree with you for sure - I’m done with him and if we can find the money, let’s pull the trigger. Im just worried that without funds and 30 Mil in buyouts, we’re gonna be forced to find a HC on the cheap and be stuck with another 4 years of mediocrity before doing it all over again - the same old story for the last 15 years…

Nor would any other school have given a lengthy contract extension after a 6-6 season with numerous blowout losses, including a season ending blowout to MD.
