The kid doesn't want to play here without Bo and Kaz so he's gonzo.

Why is that so hard to say and leave it at that???

What's so hard to believe that a kid, who isn't going to the NFL, just figured now is the time to hang it up? Happens all the time in all sports. Not like the guy didn't give us 4 years or something.

Okay, here's where I have a problem with all this. We are actually going to sit here and call out a player, because someone here questions why he might have quit. If he says it's because of his health, I'll take his word for it. I am sure as hell not going to sit here and call him out because I think that he's a Bobot.

He quit football because he does not have a passion to play it anymore..... he owes us nothing, the current players on the roster nothing, nor the coaches anything. Insinuating he should just suck it up and keep playing might be one of the dumbest f'n things I have ever read on here.

Thank you for your contribution to the Nebraska football program Mr. McMullen, congratulations on graduating, and good luck in the future.

Lol!. He's half the athlete I was.

Right, you occupy the same rarified air that everybody I played Little League ball with who's mom thought their son would be a MLB short stop but ended up a message board superman.

Its like that meme on Facebook for Chef's, how come 1% of the population is gluten intolerant but 99% of customers want gluten free accommodation in my restaurant?

The number of guys who were supposed to be elite athletes and Navy SEALs is astounding, except for those darned high school shoulder injuries and ACL tears.

You know, injuries that *real* elite athletes and SEALs generally overcome to fulfill the requirements to be what they are.

Any commitment? Or just a football team?

I didn't realize football had taken such a physical toll on McMullen. But to answer your question, a person should stand firm with any commitment, football or otherwise. Of course that's within reason, nobody should be involuntarily putting themselves at risk in an obsessive/compulsive world of only right and wrong. In the case of McMullen, imo, I don't have any problem what so ever with him stepping out of football.

Whatever man, you don't even know what a serviceable slot WR I could have been except I sprained my ankle as a freshman in HS so I had to make a business decision that I would rather nap than practice in 90 degree heat.

You guys are all quitters.

I would have been the next Bryce Harper except that I couldn't hit for crap. Well that and I wasn't very fast either.

If it wasn't for my eating disorder, I'd be the best 5'7 big man Miles ever could have found. ;)

I was in a full length cast for 13 weeks post op. I rehabed for two years just to put on the pads again and help my team.

Don't get me started on how good a soccer fullback I could have been, except that I hate to run so I didn't bother trying out for the high school team.

I was taken down to the old South Stadium to get my knee checked out by Pat Clare. How many high school athletes get that honor?

Red, I don't dislike you......I am just saying it was a terrible post. I'd ust admit it and move on.

I guess it would be like telling your kid that he has to keep playing, even though he tells you he would like to quit football after his junior year. I sure hope for your kids sake, you would not be one of those parents.

I have quit stuff before.

I once tapped out of a team hot dog eating contest but did stick around to help my teammate. I felt bad about it for a day or two but there was a girl there I wanted to get lucky with and no way was it going anywhere if those fairburys came back up.

You must have had fractures or complications if you were in a full cast for 13 months post-op.
There was a post-op infection because his leg was so tough they had to make the incision with a chainsaw and snip the ligaments with bolt cutters, and there was no time to sterilize them before they ran out of the bear tranquilizers it took to keep him under.

Holy MOG people! I really didn't think a thread I started wishing an upstanding citizen who is going into charity work for chrissake, would warrant 2 pages of douchery. How is this even a debate? This is a young man trying to build his future, a future that has helping at risk youth at the center of it. Some of you jokers want to make it about YOU? Unbelievable...

Crush -- the above kidding aside, your original post was right on and really needed no further debate.

Heh, I probably took the turn of the thread a little too seriously. I just had hope I'd open up the thread to see 2 pages of "thank yous" and "congrats on pursuing a great calling." Oh well, I got "interneted."
