Six recruiting "Soap operas" to watch

Why does college football recruiting have such a fanatical following? Some have suggested because it is a "male soap opera." Whatever the case, if you like drama, especially among the state's top college prospects, there is plenty of it to unravel between now and national signing day on Feb. 4. Here are six recruiting soap operas to watch:

Reid

Greg Reid, Lowndes: He may be the nation's hottest prospect after his MVP performance in the Under Armour All-America game, intercepting two passes and nearly picking off another. Only a few days earlier, the 5-foot-9, 185-pound Reid made the surprising move to back off his longtime commitment to Florida, saying he rushed his initial decision. UGA has reminded Reid it still has a scholarship available for him. He will make recruiting trips to Florida on Jan. 16, Mississippi State on Jan. 23, and Georgia on Jan. 30. He is also considering Florida State and Texas. The defensive back is the AJC's all-classification Player of the Year.

Russell, Conner, Cox and Boyd may be just as good, but to go out of state and get a guy of this caliber so late in the game is unheard of for us.

That being said, I bet he winds up at UGA.

...if you don't sign a star 5' 9 corner, you can always say: "Who the hell needs a midget corner anyway? All SEC WR's are now over 6 ft. He will get schooled by the typical SEC WR."

But if you sign him, you can say: "This guy is one of the top CB's in the country. He runs a 4.1 40 & his football smarts make up for his lack of height. His ability to school WR's bigger than him is a sight to behold. We have landed a program changer, gentlemen."

That's why it is a win/win scenario if you fail (or don't fail) to sign a smallish CB.

it's also comforting to know that the recruiting services are always accurate on their height and weight stats. So, we can be confident that this kid really is 5'9"
