Personally, any of the HC candidates being discussed on this forum would be a significant improvement and would be acceptable to me. But I want to share a quick story about Greg Schiano’s character.
Many years ago, I brought my handicapped (Down Syndrome) daughter, Robyn, to a Rutgers fan appreciation event. She met several players on the field but Coach Schiano, who she adored, was at the end of a very long waiting line (with Mike Teel). I brought her several yards away from his receiving desk so she could at least see him in person. When Greg saw her, he immediately rose and came over to Robyn to personally greet her, shake hands and say hello. To say she was thrilled could not adequately describe her reaction!
Robyn has never forgotten, and spoke (unprovoked) of her Coach Schiano incident on the way home from the Maryland game Saturday. Greg may not return to Rutgers, but I will never forget his kind deed.

Greg may never coach here again, but he always represented our school with class. I'd be proud to have him back.

Yes! I think GS could achieve more in terms of wins and losses this time around, but what I'm sure of is the type of man he is. That's sort of why I keep going back to him. Face it, we're not getting Urban Meyer or Jim Tressel. Guys like Rhule, or Fleck, or Cristobal are still a risk in my book. GS will inject some life and juice back into the program, make it one that we're proud of off the field, and be good with the potential to be great on the field.

And the way in which he supported Eric and his family after the injury in 2010, driving long distances after long days at work to visit Eric, bordered on the heroic. And afterward, "drafting" him to play for the Tampa team was an unbelievably kind symbolic gesture. That is a bond that still seems to exist.

Here is Schiano's last time on the field as Rutgers Head Coach:

I met him and his family at Jenkinsons (Pt Pleasant) in an arcade the night after the team came back from a game in Florida. I wasn't going to go say hi, but my wife said just go over and do it. So I did - what a pleasant guy! Just exchanged a few words with him, and he was very cordial.....

He's obviously a good guy.

He would be a huge upgrade over Flood.
