Now that I got everyone' attention, wanted to give a shout out and big congrats to Gretna's Cross County team for winning the regional's and advancing to the State Cross Country Meet at The Plains where they have a legit chance to place well up in the final standings. Much to many's surprise , football is not the only fall sport going on right now. You only need to watch these young men and women once giving it there all and running there guts out to be inspired. These kids start running in July and don't quit until November for hardly a blurb in the paper and hardly any recognition. As there shirts say " Our Sport is your sports Punishment " .Congrats again to Gretna and all those who have qualified and Good Luck at State . There are those of us out here who do watch and keep up...

Sorry Mr. Mez, I didn't see your post before I posted mine this morning. Yes, congrats are definitely in order for the Hawks. Huge accomplishment and it definitely doesn't go unnoticed to those of us that keep up with the sport. As we tell our kids, you're not the glamour sport that all the fans come out to watch, so you have to run for yourself and your team. Lots of hard work and dedication. As I told Coach Owen, Gretna has a shot to stand on the podium next Friday. But as we all know, the Green Machine that is Maggie Walker is the cream of the crop. Also out of the East will be Central-Woodstock, Wilson Memorial, and RE Lee to contend with.

Cross Country is by far the best sport at Gretna these days, followed by girl's basketball. But all in all, the overall sports culture at Gretna is the worst it's been in more years than I can remember. Bad thing about it, is that not many people even care anymore.
ClarkeFan, you all had a couple guys advance to the state meet and the girls as a team advanced. Your top girl was 2nd overall at the Regional meet.
Yeah, we seem to always make some noise in the Cross Country arena. We're happy when our kids make the news!
