Groce in 5 years at Illinois: 95-74, 4 winning seasons, 1-1 in NCAA tourney games, 2 NIT appearances

Miles in 5 years at Nebraska: 75-86, 1 winning season, 0-1 in NCAA tourney games, 0 NIT appearances

Bottom line for Illinois is it's a Basketball school and has had the same record as Nebraska in conference the last 3 years.

The other thing is to remember their history and recruiting base is so much better than Nebraska. We have three guys from Illinois on our roster, how many Nebraska natives do they have on their roster?

At least they are smart enough to know they hired a loser. Some schools' ADs just aren't bright enough to get it.

What are you referring that Eichorst isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer?

Some of the numbers in the fan base won't like this.

We just lost another home series in baseball too. Maybe we can get a 2 for 1 special on clearing out the losers from this athletic department.

and so the coaching carousel begins...
Miles to Illinois
Lue to Nebraska
Kim Anderson to Cleveland
McDermott to misery
Groce to Creighton
Lue is awfully green. We should bring him in as head-coach-in-waiting under Dana Altman, then let him take over when Dana retires.

And if you don't have something just like that lined up, no way you can even think about letting Miles go.

I'll wait till conference play for the complain about the Baseball team...

Regardless of the expectations we have for our Baseball program...

It was a great day to play some ball in 30degree weather wasn't it.Winking

Just comparing the 2 coaches since they were hired at the same time in the same conference. No doubt that Illinois has more tradition and a better recruiting base.

With that said, I'm tired of excuses with this program. I don't ever expect to compete for conference championships and final fours, but we should at least strive for an NCAA bid every other year or so. I don't think that's so much to ask for. Iowa State just won their 3rd conference tournament championship in 4 years, and there's nothing they have to offer that we don't. Creighton seems to be able to have success despite geographic disadvantages. Northwestern seems to be improving every year despite no tradition, horrible facilities, and high academic standards.

Funny if you look at Bill Carmody's (Collins' predecessor) last five years at Northwestern, he went 8-10 in Big Ten play twice, 7-11 twice and 4-14 in his final year. That final year was the only one of those five seasons when NW didn't get to the NIT. That got him fired from Northwestern, where expectations are not exactly through roof.

I think Miles and Erstad should just straight up swap jobs. Shake things up a lil bit.
My cousin's cable installer has a dental hygienist who says these two are great guys who absolutely bleed Husker red.

So seeing how I'm practically besties with both coaches, I find this thread very offensive.

I agree with @Harry Caray . I'm so sick of excuses. A possible NCAA bid every other year is the rock bottom of we should expect. If expectations fall to less than that then this program doesn't deserve the full arena that it gets every night. With the money that's been invested, I expect to contend for conference championships and the NCAA tourney every year. Maybe I just expect too much. It just doesn't seem like it should be this hard. I liked Tim's offense at CSU. Can he not execute here b/c Craig Smith is gone? Is Tim Miles the "Ben Affleck" of that duo? Lol.

Basketball is truly a Jimmies and Joes situation. Coach 'em up and scheme don't mean squat if you don't have players. Nebraska's recruiting has not answered the bell when you compare to just about every school around it - ISU, Iowa, Creighton, etc. If Miles is not going to fix the talent....and I don't see it....better to fire him now and get somebody that will. Unless we can't (or won't because Eichorst once again lost his checkbook on the way to the negotiation table).

Now once at a high level - coaching matters to win tight games - especially in March. There is a reason those high paid coaches win alot of tourney games - they don't choke on the sideline and they make calls to get the team wins.

The talent is there based on recruiting rankings and justified from the transfers on the roster (L'Ville, Miami, G'Town).

Go for Fred Hoiberg after the Bulls fire him next year.

I'm not sure why people keep thinking Hoiberg would ever want to coach here. Is it because he was born in Lincoln and his grandpa coached here 60 years ago? The guy left ISU where he was a living legend because he so badly wants to coach in the NBA. If he's fired, he will land another NBA job, either as a head coach or assistant. If he does go back to the college level someday, it will be ISU again or a big-time program.

On PAPER we should've won a NCAA tourney game already. Transfers move school for a reason (sometimes good, sometimes bad).

Maybe they'll bring back Bruce Webber. He has KSU in the tournament for the 2nd time in 5 years.

Wish we could say things like 'back in the tournament'....
