Walks off the court without shaking the NU players' hands. Ignores Olah as Alex tries to track him down to say goodbye. Loser.
He tries to walk all over the floor. Not quite as bad as Cream but close. As soon as the illini get a AD from Div3 he's gone.Walks off the court without shaking the NU players' hands. Ignores Olah as Alex tries to track him down to say goodbye. Loser.
Sorry, but I'm not buying the injury excuse. NU has had injuries too. Fact is, Groce hasn't been able to recruit the top talent available in Illinois. One starter from Chicago???Injuries
Bradley, Mystic just can't stop himself from taking shots at Collins. He also seems to conveniently forget that that "terrible" illini team convincingly beat Purdue.What game were you watching MysticCat?! Worst game under CC????! It was our defense that kept us in the game in the first half! Are you for real?!![]()
This is the type of thing that happens when you get your fourth choice. Illinois thought it was getting Shaka Smart. Ha!
I'd be salty too if I was about to lose my job.
Worst Illinois team I have EVER seen in my life tonight.
And maybe our worst game under CC. Defense, just non-existent.
Somebody had to win.
Will the ill be back soon, and how did they fall so far?
Wrong board...Too bad for him that Fitz isn't his boss.

Likely the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Injuries do kill momentum and I was unaware just how many there have been. We have faced injuries over the years and we have felt the affects. Why would Illinois not feel them as well? Hard to tell how much else is going on under those circumstances. That said, at least he has not put the University in the position that Beckman, Woman's BB coach and I think Soccer coach have done by forcing kids to play with injuries and concussions. But their fans do seem to bemoan the fact that they have not gotten the stud recruit. Groce may deserves another year but not sure he is going to get itThis is a cut and paste from the Illinois bball board. I didn't think LouV would like to have links to over there so I thought a cut and paste would be okay.
The vast majority of Illini fans want him gone, and then there is this guy....
Groce's first class are just now juniors, fans act like he has had decades to build the roster. The was the first season in which we weren't going to have to rely so heavily on freshmen and sophomores. Out of the 4 players we lost for the season the only underclassmen was Black, and he is one of our better prospects and got a lot of playing time as a freshmen.
We weren't left any top players from Weber besides that first season when we had seniors Paul and DJ. TA would of been a major asset the last two seasons but he wasn't available.
We had talent at every position going into the season, but it's going to hurt when you lose your top 3 post players and your starting PG, along with Nunn dealing with nagging injuries all season and missing so many games.
However, even with the insane amount of injuries to key players and positions, there is still a lot of promise in the roster. People bash our recruiting for some high profile misses but every class the staff has brought in has been successful. The first class gave us the top scoring duo in the B10, and Morgan has steadily been improving and should be a solid C next year. The second class featured our 2nd highest rated recruit, and no one saw Finke becoming the player he already is and still has 3 more years (Black will also have three more years considering he will get a medical RS). The freshmen class is showing promise, JCL is the best pro prospect on the roster and is up for BTFOY award.
This season was setup to be a tourney year, which would of went far with recruiting the 2017 players. This staff built up the roster and had the talent to be really competitive this year if we didn't lose so many major players. Plus we would be returning the majority of the roster. We were so close to finally being a solid program with a lot of young talent to keep momentum going, but no one could of prevented losing all those players. Fans act as if the program is in the toilet, and this negativity builds as we just went through a bunch of damage with the football program and still don't have an AD in place to provide any voice of confidence.
People that think Groce is comparable to Weber are insane. If Groce was fired this season, a new coach would inherit a balanced roster with playmakers in every class, not one season of talent and then a two year gap of literally no players to work with besides Egwu. This staff hasnt faced the same recruiting busts, every recruit is playing at or above their expectations. This staff even found a big time sleeper transfer in Rice that came out of nowhere to shoulder that upperclassmen role the last two seasons when we didn't have any leftover from Weber. We landed transfers Thorne and Paul to add immediate production in the paint, its not the staff's fault for Paul actions and losing Thorne to injury. Yea, we can bring up the missed PG recruits that would of made a difference, but it didn't help losing TA each of the last two season's to make that position's recruitment such a must have on a short timeframe. No coach is going to come in and land impact recruits at every position in their first two recruiting classes that are going to lead you to the tourney as freshmen and sophmores, however we still had every position covered with experience and talent if we don't face the injuries.
This staff has faced some real bad luck and obstacles but has kept us competitive besides this year. Just to come into the program at its all-time low, having to fire a HC for the first time in 25+ years, inheriting a roster in which 75% of the players did not even last at the university for their junior years. They faced losing Snider on signing day, and then to make things worse at that position they dealt with losing TA two years straight. We lost our top scorer last season for 9 conference games but still was within two wins of making the tourney. Then losing 3 out of 5 of our post players for the entire season this year, those 3 happened to also be the top 3 at those positions. The 2016 instate class only had two P5 quality players, how often does that occur with this state. We haven't had any big recruits come out of Illini territory during this staff's tenure, but we still managed to go out of state to pickup big recruits in Tennessee and Indy. Overall I have never seen such bad luck happening to one coach, yet we still have a lot of potential in the roster. Despite the record this year, we have the talent returning to make a drastic turnaround. Its highly unlikely we face this amount of injuries again, it's a pretty rare scenario.
Who's going to fire him? They don't have an AD.Likely the truth lies somewhere in the middle. Injuries do kill momentum and I was unaware just how many there have been. How's Holy Cross doing this year? Why do you even post here at all? Isn't there a Princeton or Crusaders board you should be spending your time on?
Groce's mom had a really nice post about how well he is doing despite all the unfortunate things, but I still bet he gets fired.
How's Gary Barnett's latest team doing this year? Why do you even post here at all? Isn't there a Colorado or Missouri board you should be spending your time on?
I mean...if it's good for the goose, it's good for the gander, right?
Do you enjoy someone who is openly hostile about the program with EVERY post. Of course he's not going to be received warmly. That's on him and nobody else. If he wants to criticize, he should be able to handle criticism..
Sorry you don't appreciate my posts but guess what, I could care less. BTW, if it wasn't for Barnett, football at NU would be sitting somewhere below,Purdue, Indiana, Rutgers and Illinois in the Big Ten.I don't...which is why I can't stand E-Cat's or Turk's or willy's or xyl-whatever's posts. And which is why I found it so deliciously ironic that E-Cat had the gall to tell someone to go to another board when that's precisely what he does on the football board. He has nostalgic wet dreams about the wonderful and laudable Gary Barnett in most football threads he comments on, so it's hilarious to see him be critical of anyone else having any degree nostalgia for a prior coach in basketball. I'm sure he can handle the criticism, but if E-Cat wants to criticize, he gets to handle it, too, right? And then I get to handle it...and then you get to handle it...
Ah, the grammar police strike, and one wonders why a lot of former posters have stopped of drastically cut back their posting. Maybe they could not care less.Couldn't care less. The proper phrase is couldn't care less.
Ah, you certainly have a way with words. Even your attempt at bullying is poetic. Now I'll leave you to converse with others of your ilk.Yes, I'm sure it's the grammar thing.
A lot of posters stopped posting on the basketball board because of the BC vs CC war led by a couple of annoying notables.
A lot of posters who were extremely negative about the football program stopped posting in the year we won 10 games. That always seemed like a funny coincidence to me.
Really though, if you're constantly making mistakes in short posts or just not reading what people are actually saying, it's just a sign that you're not taking the time to add any sort of insight or actually comprehend where the discussion is going and adding to it. At that point, you're just pissing non-sequiturs into the wind, much like a recent departed poster and the one above me.

I would suggest that the new AD would have at least another year as no one will blame him for the current coaches but they will be blamed for anyone that they bring in. Everything you suggest is equally valid a year from now. Unless you had some stud you were really clear about, might be best to wait a year and make sure you do things right.If I'm one of the candidates for the Illini AD I already have a short list of bball coaches.
Ideally you'd hire someone who the Chicago-area AAU coaches love, love, love as the Donald would say.
- Groce is not my hire;
- He's done nothing to make his job bullet proof;
- Not a criticism of Groce, but it's possible Illinois can do much better;
- The opportunity to cut cleanly is this Spring, after that it's complicated.
"Illinois does't win anymore. We're going to start winning."

Wrong board...
No one's getting fired, get over it.
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH YOU'RE SO FUNNY AND MAKING SO MANY NEW AND FUN POINTS THAT ARE WORTH DISCUSSING YAY!!!!Ever. Period. No matter what. Better than a Federal job or Illinois pension....similar work product...
