Ok as most of you know by now, I have been following PM this season. I am open to other suggestions but here's my question. So far I repeat so far I'm thinking this is the best backfield that the Fighting Blues have ever had in a single season. I might be off on the yards so forgive me but Nelson is at 1,100 yards 15 tds, Cook around 800 yards and 17 tds, Dawson 600 yards and 13 tds with two reg season games left and who knows how deep they will go in the playoffs. They could have all three over 1,000 yards and 20 tds. A remarkable feat. I know there have been some great tandem in the past but has there ever been a trio like this?

Not PM, but how about this trio, Brady Justus, 1500 yds 25 tds, Zack Lester over 800 yds, 25 tds with less than 50 carries, missed 2 games because of Auto accident, Devin Tester over 800 yds and about 15 tds, with 2 games to go.

So basically just long td run after long td run. Very impressive stats! Love seeing tiny schools like Hurley do well btw. Look forward to seeing you guys make some noise come playoff time.

Essex had a trio of backs in the early 2000s that each had over 1000 yards on the season. Ironically back then they ran the same Power T offense that PM runs now!!

2000, 2010, and 2015 Riverheads had 3 backs over 1000 yards. I don't think any season the combo had as many td's as the PM group. The most prolific scorer was Logan Moore who was a part of the 2010 group. He ended up with 89 td's for his career and 2036 yds his junior year (senior year he ended up with 1996 yds). One of the fastest in game players I have seen at this level.

In 2012 GW has
Dominique Crockett at 1300 and 24 tds
Skeens at 1200 and 14 tds
Snavley at 600 10tds no not all 3 had 1000+ but no a bad group.
2007 we had
Larry McCoy at 1000+
Devine Smith at 1000+
Seth White and 800-1000 that was a killer backfield
And this year we aren't at those Massive numbers as PM or Hurley but Booger Owens, Jordan Harbor and Markell Moss are an amazing group to have.

Its really amazing when you figure in the fact most of these backs only play 2 quarters of the game. Definitely some great athletes here but let's not forget the lines that paved the road. Those young men up front had to lay down some good hits to open those holes.

Anyone on here remember Chris Good of Luray in 2000 gained 2041 yards and had 451 yards in one game against Pendleton County,WV.

This is really an accomplishment when you take in to account the competition they played those years.

Old Ball coach, you are probably right, those 3 RB's are probably the best 3 in PM history.
Others to challenge them include the 3 at GW, Galax's RB's, and I'll add Sanchez and Kestner,
& Clark from Chilhowie ( CHS RB's probably have about 2500 yds so far ), with Mooney, Russell, Cale, Blevins & Branson with about 600+ yds ....just quessing on the last 5)

I'd say top would def have to be Ryheem Dawson he was a man! Timmy Jones, Eric Martin, John Ross Williams in the late 90's, Eric Carter had blazing speed, along with Cook, Nelson, and now Marcellius Dawson there's been a long line of great backs. They spread the ball around so much running the T its hard for a back to get those massive amounts of yards. Oh I can't leave out Logan Arthur at 145 lbs cut cut on a dime. I hope Nelson gets the rushing record from my calculation he's nearly at 7,000 yards so hopefully they will give him the pigskin a lot this Friday at Bath County. Anyone remember the Williams brothers from Bath in the late 80' s early 90's?

Yes coach, I remember the Williams kids from Bath. Darn good athletes,
and if I recall, both were quicker than cats. But as I have said on here
Before, I recall Eric Martin the most. He was a stud. About 6' 3" 215
And could fly, with both speed and quickness. He signed with Ga. Tech.
Some kids you just don't foeget.

Hey coach, go back over to that PH thread and read my last post on all those
Injuries in that game. I am still astonished that , that many athletes got hurt.
Amazing, for 2 high school games! I feel for PH, if they are in that situation.

With a little hard work, John Ross could have been better than any of the others IMO. Could have played D1 ball. Instead he is just a footnote sadly.

It should be noted that Nelson gained 5900 yards while playing for Coach Turner at Auburn.

It was noted, thank you. Yes John Ross Williams had the size, blazing speed, and moves to be D1 easily! I think he encountered some medical problems though sadly.

Rose from Sussex was a good back as well. 2003 State Champs. Not sure what he finished his career with but I can also say Baab from Franklin was stellar as well I played against him and he ran over us! What ever happened to him? Also, would like to throw one of our own in the mix Ronnie Harvey from King and Queen 1990 state champions.

Two names we can not forget that very well may be the very best RB'S in the State
Is Thomas Jones and Julius Jones from Powell Valley. Both brother excelled in high
School, later at UVA, and finally in the NFL. Their legacy lives on today.Possibly the
greatest pair of brothers to play football at the RB position in Virginia.
Also throw in Amad Bradshaw from Graham High school, NFL star at running back.

Many great athletes came out of the coal fields counties. Ed Clark from Appalachia High
School may be the single most prolific RB of all time. Known as the Stonaga Stallion,
Clark was a powerful man among boys in the early years of coal field football. Clark played
RB at Appalachia in the 60's.

WP had 2 great backs in the mid 80's with shared carries both managed over 1000 yds in the same backfield, in back to back seasons. Robert Wilson and Lee Kelly

Essex has two that are on the all-time list. Lamar Stewart is (or atleast was) #2 all time single A behind Thomas Jones with over 6,000 career rushing yards. Jared Wormley is in the top 10 too I believe.

babb went to Hampton university they put him at fullback he never really got the chance to flourish as a rb. Hampton university uses scat type backs and babb being 250 lbs they put him at full back

Goochland's state champs 2006 Wing T backfield was vicious. DJ Coles was a standout receiver when healthy at Virginia Tech and was later cut by the Oakland Raiders. John Hicks was a star baseball player at UVA and now plays for the Detroit Tigers, it was rumored he could had the opportunity to play football at Notre Dame but may just be a rumor. PJ Athey was a bruiser at fullback who played at Virginia Union and later transferred to Shenandoah where he starred. Goochland's backfield this year also has two guys with D1 potential in Mattox and Martin. Also Burton could be a stud at D3.

Franklin's Donielle Babb and Travis "trap" Brown were complete studs. Some still argue who was the better.OLine comes into play then..but Franklin running back quality is pretty good year in and out.and its always two good ones lol

Antonio Procise from sussex was the Gatorade player of the year in 92 i think. Unheard of for single A player to win that award. He is the running back God in Sussex. Rose was good. Babb from Franklin was a tough kid to tackle. There was a kid from Northhampton named David Bowers...what ever happened to him? Also terry kirby was tough. But i dont know many running back trios.

Adam Gregory on D stopped the two point try for the tie at the end . Without that stop who knows
what happens in OT ?
If we had not missed the extra point on the previous score we would not of had to try for 2,but that is how things go sometimes.Chris was a smallish back but he was extremely quick and tough.

Chris was the best back Luray has played against us in 20 years . Imo
