GW Danville preview

A lot of returning starters. Hard to imagine that they wouldn't be at least as good as last year. Could be much better than last year.
Anything less than a deep playoff run would be disappointing.
Looks like the west will have more balance this year as well.

This is just based on last year and what I know is returning:
Region D Top 5:
Salem
Blacksburg
Charlottesville
EC Glass
GW Danville
I'll hazard a guess on West/North:
Salem
Sherando
Woodgrove
Dominion
Blacksburg
Idk as much about the North teams, but I figured you wanted them included in the "West"
Sam won't be playing QB this year as I think they have one of the best pure athletes out of Danville in a long time in Carlos Poole taking over at QB. I've told people that he's the difference in a 9-2 first round playoff exit and possibly the Region D championship. I won't be one of those fans and hype my guys up but me and the blue and silver faithful are expecting big things out of this team. There's no question that this team has talent but do they have the discipline and maturity to take the next step. I think Amherst and MV will be the two biggest opponents of the year. After seeing the Louisa/JF film, I'll step back from JF.
DSH, I totally respect your opinion and believe you are one of the best in terms of your knowledge, honesty, and respect for all teams. In my opinion I don't buy into much from the first scrimmage for any team. I'm not defending any team, but also not buying into any team just yet. Only 9-10 practices and moving a lot of pieces into different positions, with some starters not playing or being limited. With that being said....I am hearing great things about Gdub. 10 days and the best part of the year begins.
I personally think GW could be a major factor this year. They might make into my 4A top 10 here pretty soon. I am battling with that right now. Not a question of athletes for GW... It is are they going to do the little things right that make a difference. After looking at the schedule a few times. I think an undefeated regular season is well within the grasps. Tell me a game that they don't have at least a 50-50 shot to win? Then they would have home field advantage. Someone has to lose the Salem / BBurg game. What if Salem beats Blacksburg but Salem falls to Dinwiddie and Sherando loses game one to Martinsburg? GW has got to seize the moment this year! Every once in a while there is a perfect storm, this could be one of those moments.
Could not have said it any better brother. A lot of people may have their opinions about the program but 10 division 1 and 2 players (15 if you count d3) between 2013 and 2015 is darn good for a public school team west of Richmond and shows the talent that the program has. The problem is that you can't expect to win a state championship playing Athens Drive, who may have won 3 games in the past 4 seasons and playing just anybody because it's a cheap.. IMO the years they beat MV and Courtland, that was Danville's State Championship, can't win the big ones with that mindset. As far as scheduling goes, it was horrid and it showed in their lack of playoff success. They should have been playing teams like Monacan, Salem, LT, Dinwiddie, Bird, etc on their schedule back in 2013. No excuses now, they have a very solid (I'll give it a B-) schedule this year and it's no excuse not to be playing the first Saturday in December. The talk is state championship in Danville but it's earned on the field and not in the newspaper. It's put up or shut up time for my boys.

Yessssssir! Better believe it bro! I'll say this, if you sleep on ANY Seminole team then you may as well be prepared to lose. I have no doubts that Coach Christmas will have those guys right. GW has a lot of work to do also. I'm not sold on the offense at all. A lot young and inexperienced players. Like you said, these young boys are 2 weeks into practice and there is A LOT of football to be played. It's going to be an exciting year!

I'm not positive. Dinwiddie is slated to take the field against Bird at 6:00. Followed by Dinwiddie/Henrico.
I'm still waiting for a reliable time table, because I hear it starts before that. I'll keep digging. If have a reliable source, please let us all know.
