Maybe I misunderstood you. I thought you meant Mountain View was using Covid as excuse to get out of forfeits.
I do not know what the Mountain View games count as for their opponents. But some have been rescheduling games with someone else, so they definitely can't claim forfeit then or they would be over game limit. Some teams in tight points situations might want to play a game against a team with some wins, rather than take a forfeit from a winless Class 2 team that provides few points.
No, I knew they were cancelling their season for reasons besides the roni, as is
Rye Cove.
Check that, Rye Cove is claiming Covid is one of the reasons they're dropping out and I assume dodging forfeits that way.
But this is where I get confused. Are teams being allowed to end their seasons early without repercussions this season, regardless of the underlying reasons? It's one thing for a school to end their season early or miss a bunch of games due to legitimate quarantines/lockdowns. But it's another for schools to take advantage of the situation and call it a week, or season and get away with not taking the L's. Once again, not saying anyone is doing that but it sure does seem a little fishy in certain situations...
And yes I agree if schools are able to reschedule with different opponents that is great. I know PM was able to rechedule with Rural Retreat after MV called it a season, but they were lucky because that game would have been a week before an off week so the Blues had two weeks open to schedule a replacement. Not every school is going to be so lucky, and more power to the ones who are having to keep doing this over and over. And as we move along it's only going to get more difficult to find replacements/teams/refs for replacement games.. if it comes down to a team needing to have played 9 games and they only have been able to play 8 for example? Then they need to be given a forfeit victory somewhere along the line IF it was that opposing school that was locked down/ended their season, etc.
