How can you be in a worse financial situation than a college student barred from working per NCAA regs? Again, I do not understand the world of legal billing.Originally posted by SAECATFAN:
Those attorneys represent a bunch of people in far worse financial situations than Chris Jones.
Well, he could possibly have agreed to defend him based on his future earnings as a pro, even if that's in Belgium (assuming he believes he can get him out of it). Or he could have done it as a favor to some UofL people. Or he could have agreed to do it because it will give him a lot of exposure. Or maybe someone in Chris' family had some money or property they were/are able to sell to pay for his defense.Originally posted by BellyDancer:

Good point.Originally posted by SAECATFAN:
I mean, someone probably put up a chunk of cash for him initially. I'm speculating that the entire bill will have to paid by future earnings, in which case they're probably assuming he's proven innocent and playing basketball professionally somewhere. Just a WAG.

I'm sure Krisssten's parents are thrilled to see their high school daughter come to the rescue of an accused felon. .
Certainly wouldn't be the first time...Originally posted by SAECATFAN:
Put me in the "bad situation, bad place, bad time" crowd. The whole ordeal is too unbelievable for me. I'm not saying he's a great guy, but I don't think he raped or sodomized anyone like the charges lay out. JMO.
Probably. If he gets convicted it's pretty rough on the program. If he gets acquitted or they don't take the case it's a lot easier to spin.Originally posted by BellyDancer:
Maybe it's my lack of understanding of the legal system, but how does a college student afford the best criminal defense attorney in the Commonwealth? Scott Cox is the best of the best. Does the attorney take on the case for the exposure or are U of L boosters involved.
Thanks, Doc. Surgery has now been scheduled for tomorrow at noon, so I feel a little bit better about.Originally posted by drxman1:
Sorry to hear that Chase. Hip fractures in the elderly are associated with a very high morbidity. Obviously, the sooner the better to fix it, but depending on the type and complexity of the fracture, some can wait longer than others.
One big thing to be mindful of is difficulty in breathing while she's there. Pulmonary embolism is a common and life threatening complication from being immobile. Hip fractures are also known to cause fat embolisms. Hopefully they are taking precautionary measures.

Feel like they are pretty safe, although if they lose out I'd start getting nervous.Originally posted by anthonys735:
IU getting in the tourney with 12 L's? Assuming they beat Iowa and lose to MSU and 1 in the B1G tourney.
They're a 9 in Lunardi's latest. If they split their last 2 and lose in the first round in the Big Ten Tournament, they'd be 20-12. Unless there are a ton of upsets in some mid-major league tournaments leading to some bid stealing, they're probably in.Originally posted by anthonys735:
