Leaking out in transition and playing snowbird doesn't make you a multi-dimensional player.

Murray is most effective as merely a catch/shoot guy right now, and it's not even close.

^ correct.

-Chief, Not when you consider IOWA let Ben Brust out of his LOI...to sign with Wisconsin. -- where he ended up essentially a 3 year starter, School's All Time leading 3pt shooter, while scoring 1150 points.

That's Bo Ryan for you.

This is what Louisville can do to you when the whistle isn't tight and you're afraid to initiate contact on offense. I'm not sure what makes Pitt think they can pass into this zone. One of the reasons Cal is 8-1 at Kentucky against Rick is (well, vastly superior talent) and big strong guards that aren't afraid to drive into you, force contact, draw fouls and get you to soften up.

Pitt is horrible, absolute garbage. Worst shot selection of any team in history.
Top 20 my ***, I'll say it right now, they won't make the tournament.

Kyle Wiltjer with 35 & 10 tonight against BYU. But Gonzaga lost. Down two, Wiltjer at the line for a one-and-one. Makes the first, misses the second. Gonzaga gets the ball back, Wiltjer takes the last shot, and gets rejected.

Not sure where this sexual tension talk comes from. I love Anth, love smacking him around even more, and he tries the same. Boys will be boys. It's the American way.

Am I missing something with the new homepage? It looks like the only ways to get to the Paddock are either go to another board and then go back to the forum list or go to my watched threads and go to GYERO. I asked Rowland on Twitter when he was talking about it and he never responded.

Edit: Nevermind, you can click forums now to bring up the whole list. I thought I tried that yesterday.

And got smoked on defense the whole game. He's added some nice wrinkles to his game. Drove and used his size time after time. I guess this isn't the year for the Zags.

-That UL game was obnoxious.

Yeah buddy we need you to reclassify, move to a new country, learn a new position and system and as a 6'4" combo guard go ahead and dominate college basketball on its biggest stage...oh, by the way we have no back to the basket scorer and the bigs you do have show up about ever other game. On last thing, if you suck that little guy over there with the ball is going to choke you out in the locker room. K, thanks!

All things considered, Murray has been pretty good. He does some James Young type stupid **** that I really didn't expect from him and he's probably a half step slower than I thought (of course he is playing against teams that are begging us to shoot from outside and selling out not to let us get to the rim). Nevertheless, he's showing steady improvement, if his shot keeps going down at a decent clip I could see him having a big second half of the season.

-I mean he's having a huge first half of the season. If I'm not mistaken the best offensive first half of the season of all the Cal 1&Ds. Kind of tough to drive when you're the only shooter on the team with no respected big man. Block the lane, all perimeter defenders sag. Yet he's still putting the ball in the basket at a amazing clip. I figured basketballs would understand this, seems like TSK does. DRIVE MORE MURRAY. RIGHT OVER TOP OF 4 DEFNDERS!1!! The dude didn't just stop being able to drive and score. Defenses are taking that away.

His issues are turnover rate and defense. Mostly D though, it's pretty rough.

Pitt is a complete fraud. Have two DECENT forwards and no guards and ZERO shooting. Prob will finish at or just above .500 in ACC.

Of course at the moment it is a HUGE ACC win for the CARDS!

Don't get the Murray hate. Kid is a freshman trying to figure it out on a team with zero post presence and putting up damn good numbers while he's doing it. Once everything clicks with him it could be scary...he's the type of guard that has cost us a couple titles.

Speaking of post presence...why have we not gone to Poythress more on the block? He seems to be much more efficient/competent down low and has even looked dominant at times. If he commands a double it will really open things up, will also get his confidence going which is key with a guy who can score 29 and the next game do nothing.

Lost $500 on Monday. Horrible, gut wrenching, helpless feeling. Was like a panic attack on steroids. Still have no idea where it went...I'm starting to think someone took it because my keys went missing(still are) around the same time. Even then that doesn't make sense because there was a tablet, and some other stuff of value that could've been taken from the vehicle and wasn't. Just an odd situation all around...

Saw a stat the other night where Murray has hit something like 22 of his last 45 three's. That's incredible when you think about it and he's definitely trending in the right direction.

One thing I've also noticed is that his posture while dribbling is getting much better. He's dribbling more upright with his head up instead hunched over with his head down driving into defenders he can't see sliding over.

He has been playing better but lets not forget his no shows til the game is out of hand in the losses and almost single handedly losing the Louisville game with his dumb ****. There is a lot of James Young in him. He has to get better on defense for us to make a move. But he isn't the only one.

Poyrhress on the block, one of four things happen and at a pretty even rate...he charges, goes baseline and gets trapped under the goal, gets stripped, or makes a move that makes you think "why don't we post him up more?" Then we do and you remember...and he's still our best option!

If Briscoe could shoot FTs it would be fun to see him post against a smaller guards more often. But he can't...

It hasn't felt that way this year. He has had his dickfiger moments but when he gets the ball and has decided to score he usually does. Not to mention he's about a million times better at going baseline this season. Would love to see a numbers breakdown on his effectiveness in post op opportunities. He's not a technician down there but he can and has scored at a pretty good rate for us, and right now he's the best option we've got down low...

.

[laughing] That's pretty accurate, and I LOVE it.

He flat gave Alex the biz after he shot that 3 the other night. Star Freshman, 7th year Senior, his best buddy/mancrush, it doesn't matter to him...don't recall a team so clearly belonging to someone like that around here. Just wish he had more help.

-But, [eyeroll] with the "I don't get the Murray hate". Who hates Murray? Very curious about this one, please advise...

Pretty hilarious so many of you are up in arms about pointing out that Murray is pretty much a sniper/jumpshooter for us right now -----> BECAUSE HE IS. Maybe you should request that your seats be moved back a few rows so you can see the game better? He's also playing his best ball. I don't see anyone complaining about it...

What a bunch of pussies around here, Christ.

Murray's defense is pretty bad, but would not look as bad IF, there was a post guy we have had every year Cal has been here to clean up the bad defense. No shot blocker makes him look even worse than he is. Just a presence in the middle would make players think twice about driving all the way to the rim. Right now it is one of three things happen when someone drive. Lay up, foul on one of the TWO guys trying to play help defense, or a offensive rebound when said two guys come over and leave weak side wide open for a rebound.

Friday Randoms:

- Excellent Clay Travis article on the future of ESPN. Not the biggest Travis fan, but his pieces on sports media are always tremendous. Basically, ESPN has over-leveraged themselves with all these huge contracts with NFL, NBA, etc. and are getting killed by people cutting the cord as well as the fact the vast majority of people would never pay for ESPN individually.

- UK-Auburn at the same time as WV @ Oklahoma Saturday. Oh well.

- At least we know Pearl isn't going to slow it down and throw a 2-3 at us. That game last year was probably the most entertaining game of the year.

- Speaking of which- all these ranked team road woes just remind you how good we were last year. It's so hard for 20-year-olds to maintain focus and/or overcome those times when they lack it. It's a shame that one loss will take the shine off how great that squad was. To me, it wasn't the Kansas/WestVirginia/etc domination that was so impressive, it was the consistency. That's what makes the greatest great.

- Udoka Azubuike and Kobi Simmons announcing this weekend and looking like FSU and Arizona. It's a crime how little Hamilton does with all the talent he steals.. Oh well, Kansas and UNC continue to stumble around like drunkards on the recruiting trail. Works for me.

- I still say Kansas is the favorite to win despite their haphazard point guard, deficiencies and silly frontcourt rotations. UNC is there, too. Amazing offense, Brice Johnson has become a beast and Paige/Jackson (when bringing it) are a tough combo to stop. Of course, their D leaves a lot to be desired. Maryland is there, too, as they have the best player from the three squads and most talented/balanced starting 5 overall.

Really think it's wide open, though.

- Current Netflix rotation: Sherlock and rewatching Happy Endings. Both are terrific.

- Have relaxed my "no watching games in public" policy this year for a few reasons- first I've realized these games aren't life-and-death for this team. We're building toward March. I have to come to grips with that. This team is likely a 3/4 seed, maybe even a 5. Secondly, watching games in public actually relaxes me a little bit. Last, because of my personal schedule and **** going on, it's worked out like that.

- Pumped to see Jaimanthony here in a few weeks. Been too long.

- The lass got me a set of these for Christmas, only with the map of Lexington. Very thoughtful and cool gift. Even have the bourbon-weary lady enjoying the occasional old fashioned now. Maybe I'll make Anth one.

"I feel like my long-lost best friend came back tonight," Pitino said. "I've been waiting some time for us to play defense like that, and it's exciting to play that way.

"Just a brilliant performance by our guys. Real proud of them."

What the hell has happened to this guy?
