We now have the equivalent of throw pillows on our dining room table. One center piece, two vases, two candlesticks and a runner. It will take 20 minutes just to clean the damned thing off to eat on at this point if you factor in putting the protective mats and table cloth down as well.

I drive a 12 year old toyota. 153k miles. dragging the little plastic flap underneath the engine. hail damage. etc.

but it's paid for.

I mean, sorority chicks -- and the general public -- can't tell the difference, but don't you kinda lose your rich guy cried when your german sports car is LEASED? you no more own that car than my beagle does. it's a rental. with bad terms.

I vote we put a full out hiatus on social media bragging over **** you rent. hell, at least get a loan, pay it down a month or two, and build a couple hundo of equity before flossing.

Dining rooms are a waste of space. We have a pretty nice one in our house, and I'd prefer it didn't exist. We use it once or twice a year, and that's it. In fact, not one single time have I ever personally used it. Next house = f*ck that. What space I have I want to be useful.

Good luck. On these house hunting shows I'd say the wife wants a nice DR 99.99% of the time.

Umm, I dont lease the Porsche. Never did. Not sure where you came up with this nonsense. Actually have quite a bit of equity built up in it.

Stick to running really long distances for participation trophies.

We have used dining table twice in our house that we have been in a year and a half. Our kitchen table sits 8 but we eat outside as much as possible.

We sold our dining room table instead of moving it. With a kitchen table and bar seating it was just not needed. We are using the dining room as sitting room. Whatever the hell that is.

That's b/c you don't have anywhere else to eat or real table in the kitchen, most likely.

Seems like most houses with a nice/separate dining room are pretty much for show, so I get the original point. But nothing else would look right in there given it's usual location off the kitchen.

Sounds like we'll start our class with Sacha Killeya-Jones possibly today. Wouldn't be a bad start, especially considering how well Cal and Payne have developed bigs. He's ('posed to be) a multi-year kid. Long. Nice touch. Lots of skill.

Funny how Cal came into UK and proved his worth his first few years as a PG guru, but has really emerged as the best big man coach/producer in college basketball.

We have a couple dinner parties in the winter where we use our dining room. Also whenever my inlaws are in town. Lass loves having it, and I actually appreciate it because it leaves the original floorplan of our 1948 house in tact. Some houses are better left alone as they were intended imo.

Built our new construction couple years ago, builder and his designer asked if we wanted a formal dining room or a kitchen/dining area/hearth room/wet bar all in one giant open area...easy choice. Small-batch craft farm-to-table farm table expandable to 10 for artisan supper needs.

Pretty glad I'm on the opposite end of Chief on this and all topics, every hen that sees it loves it.

I know that none of you will follow up on this, but:

In the 1950's, an industrial designer wrote an entire book/manifesto on how the vestiges of Victorian customs should never have transitioned to the American suburban home (since there aren't teams of servants to properly execute them, etc.).

He lays out guidelines for setting up an efficient home and highlights ridiculous hoops people jump through as they misinterpret the Victorian ideal to keep up appearances for the mutually clueless:

If you want to go on a real kick and feel disgusted about all of the junk that fills up your house for no good reason, check out Saarinen's "City: Its Growth, Its Decay, Its Future" as well.
