Don't think so, but Stoops had said he wouldn't against that style of offense. Melvin Lewis barely played as well. Needed guys who could pursue last night.

Well if the style of offense dictates why a 5* doesn't play, I guess that's one thing. Maybe he's just saving him for the Charlotte and Vandy games.

Again, we needed guys who could pursue and close the gap, not slow space eaters. Lewis barely played as well. In other words, we didn't play nose guards this game or just barely. Mizzou only had 111 yards rushing and their longest was 14 yards. I'd say the scheme the coaches put in place worked.

As far as Elam, look at a depth chart. He's not #1 on it. He may have been a 5* at one point, but he came in as a frosh who was way overweight and out of shape and while he dropped weight over summer, he's still not where he needs to be. Kid needs to decide what his priorities are. I hope he gets it together, but just because he came in with huge accolades does not mean he should be playing. He needs to do what he has to do to get on the field. In case you didn't notice, he didn't play much against UF either.

That was my whole point. Elam is not living up to the hype.

Stick to negotiating pizza deals Anth.

I thought it was pretty much consensus that Elam was only a 5 star on 24/7 because Saban wanted him and they tend to have and Alabama bias.

Not saying he wasn't a great recruit but he wasn't a top 20 player in the nation.

Boom missed picking up the blitz and never came back in last night. Jojo's play has been a huge surprise.

He needed to be redshirted so he can transform his body but that wasn't the deal coming here. LC nailed it. He'll be fine but he's still growing into that frame. Find me a handful of starting true freshman/sophomore nose guards. 99% of the time it's best when you can redshirt the trenches.

Man having Hatcher and Flanigan back is huge.

Elam is fine. You watch him when he's in- against a team that wants to run inside between guard/center and he clogs ish up, gets a push in on his man and gets off his block. But, he's not going to be as effective moving laterally against a spread- especially playing a 3-4. To be fair, most DTs his size won't be- that's why guys like Suh, Haynesworth, etc. that can get major deals in the NFL.

Elam is just over a year into actual training and coaching on how to play DL. What he can do now he does very well and he's going to get better. I love the fact we have guys with different skill sets that we can put out there and don't HAVE to play a downhill scheme against a team like Mizzou.

That is a historically awful take.

Elam was a project coming in(although a highly rated one), and is doing just fine in his second year. He is only in his 2nd year, backing up a future NFL DT. Would've been silly to have him chasing around Mauk.

With guys like that who need to make a major body change(whether it be gaining or losing), it's going to take 3 years for them to contribute consistently and 4 to dominate. He has done everything the coaches have asked of him to this point, including getting down to 355.

Didn't realize UT has dropped 11 straight to UF. While we have no room to talk, that was a pretty intense rivalry. Those folks aren't happy. A loss to us could start a wildfire in Knoxville.

You all need to learn what a project is if you think 99.999% of incoming SEC freshmen are projects. That's ridiculously dumb. I hope Maxx is joking.

I was at the game the last time Tennessee beat Florida. 2004 at Neyland. We were sitting in the endzone where Tennessee kicked the game winning field goal. Had a buddy in grad school down there and he was a trainer for women's sports. Free ticket. Maybe the Vols need to have me back down in the fall. That's the only non-Kentucky game I've ever seen them play in person.

-I've tried to like him because his style of play is old school but I can't stand Bryce Harper. #1 his name is Bryce so it's hard to actually take him serious. #2 he's a f*cking douche. Same with Papelbon, both epic douches. Really the biggest two fake hard ons in the league.

-Dipped into the Yeti game thanks to my boy Huber. Only took about 6 weeks for me to change my tune on them. Probably longer than most predicted. Didn't even use it, stuck with the igloo, but the thing sure looks pretty. Might just give it to an employee but I think WS wants it for our road trips and storing her organic selection.

-Deck full of Delts post game was the only sour point of the weekend. I love my doods but once you start mixing in the outliers and randos the repetitive pissing contest stories get obnoxiously redundant. It's been like 20 years for most of you. Did you know -> 87 moon rovers UTV's were flipped over destroyed and 104 virgins were served up then burned at the stake in the 2001 Mako party. Let me show you this picture.

-Man, can't get over that D. Granted we haven't played Baylor but UF looked pretty good moving the ball the games around us and Grier seems to be putting it together. Adding Hatcher, who was all over the place, and Flannigan has really transformed it. Typically I feel like those type of things are over blown but not with those two. When did CJ Johnson turn into an All SEC lineman? He may have been the actual POG.

-Ice needs to have his down game this week. A little struggle would be FINE WITH ME. These young cocky mofos haven't done well with success and praise. Throw up a nice ugly win vs EKU so we can refocus for Auburn.

-Can't even imagine the atmosphere for Auburn. Going to be bonkers. We've given UK marketing tons of grief, most of it deserved, over the years but they've really stepped up the in game atmosphere. If we could get Bill Monroe's "Blue Moon of Ky" down from 5x's a game to 1 I think it'd be almost perfect.

-Billy's BBQ is garbage. Never again.

-Anticipating a pretty low key crowd this weekend. Giving G a taste of CW for the first time as well.

Elliot won't be here long...
That's fine, we can hire Vandy's soon to be fired coach as DC

Or another guy who was a former longtime SEC DC likely unemployed in a couple months

Not saying he wasn't a great recruit but he wasn't a top 20 player in the nation.
Saban wanted him, so did Urban, and Tennessee, and Notre Dame. His high ranking was more than justified

He is 2nd string this year, will be starting nose his jr & sr yr, and then will be a 1st round pick by one of the many 3-4 defense teams in the NFL.

Monday Morning Randos:

-Tailgate was different again, but in a good way. Pretty funny, really -- there were like 2 girls there the majority of the day. Pretty much just 15-20 dudes standing in a circle bullshitting & busting balls in the driveway, was actually kinda cool. Even ole Rob made an appearance.

...left early w/ Chad b/c he wanted to get a Lot tour for his yearly game. Patron & Fireball at Ben's, quick stop at BM's spot, then over to Harris/Huber to finish. They have a pretty badass setup, for sure. May be the spot for the UofL game, since the Schems will be out of town. Definitely sucks they have to miss the UofL game, but there won't be any shortage of options for that one.

-Game was pretty dope. Never felt like we weren't going to win. Loved Dawson, amazing how much easier things are on Patrick when we're utilizing the quick hitters and using the entire field...and not running those long-developing plays the majority of the time.

Jojo is just a great finisher, pretty much his role. He comes in there to close out games and just runs so damn hard.

-Officials were awful, proud of our guys for not letting that get to them.

...kept the drinking under control, but still felt like **** the next morning thanks to Papa John's. Anth rolls in with a stack of 15 personal pizzas he struck a deal for on the way out of the stadium. Was clutch & appreciated at the time, but Papa John's tears my **** up for some reason, always has.

-NFL sounded exciting yesterday. [sick]

-Cool to see Spieth close out with the win, ending any doubts. 22 Million on course this year...wow. What a great year for the game of golf, in general. It's been a long time since there were 3 guys of this caliber battling it out for #1, gonna be really fun to watch over the next few years.

-Guess we'll be coming to EKU, to see Killa if nothing else -- but would have preferred an away game this week. At least we have the bye to rest up, finally.

-I'm all in on football at the moment, still hard to believe basketball season is only days away. :sunglasses:

-And yeah, didn't want to ***** about the food of course as it's always appreciated...but man, that was very, very, poor BBQ. Awful, really.

DUI Mike saved the day with those Buffalo Chicken minis, those things were :fire::fire::fire:

* Great weekend. Good seeing everyone at the Sausage Festiganza.

* Stayed at the Pope Manor, maybe we should just call it the Vatican.

Dude just oozes cheese. It is not just an internet persona. And I love him.

I'll let wcc tell the Porsche story.

* Got up early Sunday and cooked some goetta. Had to search around Boat's kitchen a bit to find everything I needed.

I'll tell you this… Pope's spice game is on fleek.

* What a big victory. Cats made big play after big play.

Avoid injuries next week and just take care of bidnit.

Then Auburn comes to town for a Thursday night tilt? Oh my.

* Nice W for the Who Deys as well. Good sports weekend for Wildcat Willy. Although I did miss Ava's 2nd hat trick in 3 weeks.

* George is even cuter than advertised. Anth might want to get a paternity test.

* WS, where were those mini chicken sambos from? Perfection.

* Huber's kid was the Kid of the Game on the Jumbotron. He might be the actual player of the game here in about 16 years or so. Kid looked like a natural running around in a UK jersey.

That is if he is able to lose all of the genetic input from his Daddy's chromosomes, of course.

* Family Oktoberfest yesterday. Lots of good food and beer.

I would've rather been on my couch watching football and eating bon bond, but all in all not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

* For those of you wondering, wcc is still as cool as a freshly poured blue Slush Puppy.

I saw 3-4 different groups of guys walking out of the stadium with stacks of those papa john's pizzas on Saturday night. Guess they have to get rid of them. Not gonna lie, was a little jealous.

Did see Skal Labassiere walking down Woodland ave after the game with some short dude- at first I assumed it was Ulis but it was just some dude. Every short dude he walks around campus with should start acting like he's Tyler Ulis, because that's who everyone is going to assume it is. Make the most of it, pal. Be Fake Tyler Ulis.

Granted it's been a 2-3 years, but the last time I took the downtown shuttle to the stadium, it cost like 3 bucks for roundtrip. Tried to hop on it Saturday and they wanted 15 bucks a person. Lol nope, walked through campus and felt like an old.

Good time at the game. My Mizzou fan friend was actually kinda mortified when Lorenzen walked out.

the kids he brought out were definitely disconcerted and giving JLoad the sideeye, thinking he might attempt to eat them at any moment

Was supposed to go to a wedding out of town over the weekend, and got an email from the groom last week letting everyone know it was cancelled. Brutal. Ended up having to go to a two year olds birthday party in Alabama which I assumed was going to be worse. Ended up having a "guy section" at the party with a few coolers and TV's set up to watch football.

Day drinking turned to night drinking and a casual conversation that began with someone saying "I bet I could still run a 40 in 5.5" ended with someone pulling a hamstring and another throwing up.

Aside from the few moments of in game red-*** (see, Towles throwing one up for grabs in the end zone, and about 3 INT drops), I kept it together pretty well. Not used to us coming from behind though... still need to fight off the pessimism but man its TOUGH.

Every time I think Chumps has gone off the deep end, it seems he finds a way to top it. I know we were all curious to see how Chad responded to relationship bliss, but Randall may be the more entertaining watch in that regard. Can you imagine the first time his gal schedules something when the TWolves/Arsenal/UK are playing?

I've given up on caring about uniforms or that damn K/H. They have been a competitive football team against decent teams thus far. Wear whatever the hell you want.

We dropped about 3 INTs and Mizzou dropped/bad threw (?) about 3 TDs. Really glad Pinkel apparently gives his backup 1 series in the 2Q and then that's it no matter the result.

^I thought they were his kids?

-Wasn't a student recently pretending to be Ulis?

-I love the gray uniforms. A little different without going stupid.

-The in-game redass, I assume from the refs, was at an all time high. Even I was cussing like a sailor. I think 80 had to leave the game over it. Lot of pent up frustration in that one, think we all knew the season was completely on the line with this one.

The refs were awful. Felt like a basketball game, honestly. But the PI on the interception was a stupid, dumb, awful play. That ball was getting picked as soon as Mauk threw it and there was no need to box a guy out 7 yard downfield. Chill. Stamps got this.

- Friday night- free seats 8 rows up to the Toby Keith concert at Riverbend. It was as you expect- a very red crowd, and basically just a huge commercial for Ford Trucks and America. Least amount of talent I've ever seen at Riverbend. Still, I enjoyed. He has enough good songs and our seats were sick so nice night on the river.

- So, we get to Boat's and have to roll up to grab some beer and bourbon at the local Meijer. Decide to take the Porsche for a spin on this 2-mile trip. Boat manages to get the Porsche up to 90 a few times. I was scared shitless. So, we roll up on the grocery. Do we park in the lot like normal human beings? Of course, not. We have a Porsche. Boat parks it right on the sidewalk 10 feet from the front entrance.

- Good times at the Sausagefest. The only babes there we pregnant or recent mothers. Haha.

- Of course, dK and I swing by Uncle Ben's and shoot Patron, which meant it took me about a half to pull it together during the game. Love Huber and tMFh's tailgate. Jaimanthony's is home but it's cool hitting up a true tailgate every now and again, too.

- Belle's post post-tailgate was fun. Like the feel of that place. I really thought we were going to hit Platinum, but luckily Willy's too old and forgot about that idea.

- In the NOT GAY AT ALL moment of the night, Boat and I hot-tubbed it at 3am. That thing is choice.

- Are the Who Deys for real? Ask me in 3 months.

- Tennessee 1-21 against Florida/UGa/Bama since Fulmer's last year.

- Gabriel's an intriguing kid. LONG. Improving rapidly.
