[laughing] Wow

Adam is incredibly awful.

Solution: Walk 2-3 more rows back until you find an open bin above your seat...

...OR, wait a few seconds when de-boarding to grab your badger brush, and then have to wait LESS at baggage claim.

I can't imagine being Adam Eads, imo.

Lol, lil nelson has come a long way. From Chase Freedom $500 annual payouts and poo-pooing free flights/bonus churning to now having 17 simultaneous churns going with himself, his wife, and in multiple family members names and manufacturing 100K per month or whatever crazy **** he's doing.

I'm jealous as hell, but am way too poozy to attempt what he does. Makes me nervous thinking about it.

He's more extreme than ukguy78 these days, pretty impressive.

-Don't hate on Southwest, though. The Companion Pass is the best value/prize in the points game (for regular folk. Anyone with a 700 credit score and a job can do it in 2-3 months and fly free as much as they want for 2 years), and that airline is as efficient and reliable as any. Just an awesome company, imo...wish there were more like them.

Nelson knows what he's doing. Manufactured spending is waaaaaaaaaaaaay more profitable if you're organized and know what you're doing. Learn excel.

Chase, make sure you email one of us (Bbdk, Clark, anthony, myself) before you dive in the SW Companion Pass. Can get a little confusing and there's a few nuances to Chase applications and the like.

SW Companion Pass makes living in this cold hell tolerable when wife and I can hop on a quick flight for free.

But my favorite part of Southwest is the douchebag who thinks he's hot **** and lines up 30 minutes in advance at the very front of the A-line only to have another baller roll in front of his A2 spot at the last second. Never fails.

-Thanks to the wonderful folks at Citi and their absolute lack of a clue, flying BOS-HNL first class on AA in January and staying at the Grand Hyatt Kauai for free thanks to Chase. :100points:

Southwest is good, not really a fan of their lineup though. But it's worth the drive to the ville for the direct flight to Vegas.

Pro priority boarding. The overhead bins absolutely will get filled up and some poor sap gets stuck checking their bag. No thanks.

And yes, carrying on when you can is absolutely the way to go. Quick trips and not having your gear FTL. Longer trips and traveling with females, sure go ahead and check.

if you're pumped about an international flight in any capacity, you're an idiot. 1st class, business class, pilot, whatever. that's a long time on a flying vessel.

Call me crazy, but I'd much rather spend 8, 10, 12, 14 hours circumnavigating the globe, all the while getting pampered by the world's best airlines (Singapore, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Lufthansa, Thai, etc) than I would running 50 miles through God's creation in po-dunk Mississippi. Different strokes and all that.

^ thanks.

-Tell that to ukguy78, Ursch. He BOOKS flights based on how long they are....last year, he booked a flight b/c it was the "last run" of the 'longest flight in the world' available, and he had to be on it for "the experience" [laughing] #weirdo

Love how this post was immediately followed by yet another email asking for my advice with his first "real" international trip. As with most BBdK things, a little bit of truth and a whole lot of spin.

I check bags everywhere. I hate carry on. Dreading the carry on BS related to G. My typical carry on is a bag just larger than my tablet filled with computer, charger, Altoids and Bose. The 5 minutes you save isn't worth the hassle.

You're correct in that the cancellation of SQ 22 in 2013, formerly the world's longest flight, prompted me to go ahead and schedule another trip to SE Asia. But I also was able to hit Vietnam and Siem Reap/Angkor Wat in Cambodia for the first time, which was incredible. Learn maximization.

Just to clarify, you want all 110k points to post in the same calendar year, ideally as early in the year as possible. What you don't want to do is get the card(s) in the fall, meet the sign-up bonus right away and have some of your points post in November/December, and then rest of your points post after Jan 1.

If I never bring another thing to the table in this thread (which is likely), the SWA card and companion pass is more than enough. Basically Tom Banjo for life.

I thought that the companion pass started as of the date your points hit 110K? I read that in a points guy post, but I don't know if it was dated or inaccurate though.

Believe it's actually when the statement posts. Just make sure you finish your minimums in 2016.

Two things:

1) I only carry on a lap top backpack

2) I was just saying all this about priority boarding. Not a huge deal for me either way.

You're correct in that once you hit 110k, you're eligible for a CP for the remainder of that year and all of the following year. But all 110k have to be earned in the same calendar year. That's why it's best to try and earn those points as early in the calendar year as possible, as that gives you almost 2 years with a CP.

As Anth said, it's important to know when your credit card statement will close, as that's when the points are transferred to your SWA account.

Actually driving to Nashville Thursday to fly SW direct in and out of New Orleans. Saved about $250 and don't have to fly Delta, United, American, etc. with a connection, which means I won't get stranded/miss a significant portion of my trip. Pretty dope concept, really.

It does...in a calendar year. So if 50k post in '15, and 50K post in 16...you'll still have 60K to go to reach CP.

Just make sure u don't hit min spend on BOTH cards til Your first statement close of Jan.

I'd apply in Nov, then hit final min spend on both as close as possible to Jan 1...then crush another 6K ASAP

That's what we did and had the CP for 22 months.

If it were me, I'd apply for the cards sometime in late Oct or Nov, activate them when you receive them, and then just hold off on any spending until January 1st. You have 90 days to meet the min spend requirement, so as long as you do it in early Jan, you'll be fine. That's the safest play. You could do the min spend in late December, but only once you're absolutely sure that you won't have another statement close in 2015.

When you're ready to apply, let me or another Catpaw friend send you a referral link rather than going through the points guy or something, as there's a 5k bonus when you refer-a-friend. The offer is the same, 50k.

I did not mind flying to Germany at all. Flight seemed actually kinda quick. Flying home sucked ***. Flying against the jet stream is no joke. Headed on my 10th trip to Japan in 3 weeks. That flight over is the absolute worst. Nothing you can do to be prepared for it no matter how many times you have done it. It's 14 hours of hell.

Truth when it comes to flying to Japan, though at this point, they have to be upgrading you to business / first class every time if seats are available. Back in 2005, I was one of Northwest's Top 10 flyers in AP. They even came and personally met with me at the office and gave me a nice Mikimoto pen set. Still have it and writes like a champ. Today they'd probably throw a packet of peanuts at you and tell you to be happy.

I find flying to/from Europe to be far worse when it comes to jet lag than flying to/from Asia. I think Asia flips your clock so much that you just kind of stay in a fog whereas Europe just messes up your sleep just enough that you feel like you're not getting any sleep.

Right now I have a trip coming up to Amsterdam and I'm sitting on Delta's site just waiting for a economy comfort seat to open up on the 8 hours from ATL to AMS. Nothing like 8 hours in a hard *** seat and not being able to stretch out your legs to make for a fun trip.

None

Hotel points (Marriott, Hyatt, etc) transfers count towards CP, but at a pathetic transfer rate.

No dice on UR.

Do love this quote. Freaking Ulis.

“Everybody said, ‘You’re going to get a great four-year guard, this is what you need,’ ” Calipari said. “So he comes in (for a recruiting visit and) I said to him, ‘Tyler, look, if you want to be here four years, don’t come here. Go somewhere else. We don’t do that. We’re here preparing everyday to chase dreams.’

“He looked at me and said, ‘I’m ready to sign. I was tired of hearing that (expletive), too.’ "
