Fatguy has a point. We just aren't used to losing. But this was a wire to wire beating that we never even go close to making it competitive... In Cal's 6 years here, there might be a handful of those kinds of games. Any UK fan is going to be irate watching it. We might have made #1 this year, but the expectations of a national title are going to be a blip on the radar.

I mean, we couldn't make a DENT in their lead over the final 25 minutes pretty much. That's just weird.

I don't think anyone really thought we were world beaters yet, most of us just assumed UCLA sucked given their record this season and we'd manage to come back and win. Basically, it's them, not us that most everyone was wrong about.

Chad thought we were #1. Maybe Anth. That's about it.

We're a 2-3 seed...can get a LOT better...but are really pretty marginal I think.

At least Murray balled again. What he have, 20? My guy really turns up when the lights on!

I don't think I could stomach a lineup with Willis and Skal at the 4 and 5. Give me Willis and Lee or Willis and Poythress.

But no to Willis and Skal or Willis and Humphries together.

I'd like to see some experiments with full-on Nolan Richardson style pressing for a bit. Just to see what happens. We have the horses.

We are NOT an elite defensive team. Cal relies on that **** because our overall offensive flow is miserable every damn year.

Unless we make some significant changes to our offensive philosophy teams are going to take away the transition buckets and we're going to be in damn slug-fests all year.

Seriously tho, pretty sure Welsh is exactly what we hope I-ZAK will become...a pick and pop from the elbow guy -- which is already his strength when he's not jacked up/nervous.

Be a nice luxury to have later on this year, or at least in years to come. That dude KILLED us.

Wish I could like this a million times.

Willis did ok in limited time on Welsh and that pick and pop, but losing Lee who would have been the perfect player to stop that really hurt us.

Only thing I hate about this team, or Cal's use of this team, is that it's extremely deep with different skill sets. When teams play us this way we should see Mulder and Willis.

Other than that Ulis hurt, Lee hurt, Skal and Poythress do almost nothing, Ulis/Murray combine for like 7-25 and yea a solid ball team will get us on the road by 10.

Anyone else like to see UK/UCLA past next year?

This is squarely on richie's back. Dude went way too negative and that's harmful to the homeostasis of the fan base. It's like when Bud and Doyle had that rager in the bio dome.

Actually I predicted 5-6 losses and I honestly had a terrible feeling about tonight.

We alright though. We gotta get more from Skal. That's the season. Willis needs to play. Obviously we're having problems scoring. Give up a little d. Not having lee really hurt but we were losing that game regardless. Young guys needed it.

Also, I don't want to be hard on Poythress. With his recovery, he's a step slow. We need him to be an elite defender and rebounder.

Currently, he can't do that and it isn't his fault. Hopefully by the end of the year he can get that quickness back.

He's not going to be an offensive threat other that lobs and putbacks and the occasional "No, no, no, no.... Yes!" three.

Lot of t at is Cal/PGs fault.

Skal may be a *****, but he's gotten like 4 post touches combined the past month....if you want to establish a post game, may want to FEED it now and then.

Willis fouled that guy on the out of bounds play in the first half and got the hook for the rest of the half. That was it. Other players ( Murray ) can mess up time after time and still play. Teams are going to continue to pack the defense in like ucla and Illinois ST did. Willis is going to have to play.

Did ESPN not have footage of what happen to Lee? Whole damn injury was a mystery.

Alex's issues have zero to due with his injury. He has been the same exact player since he got here.

Skal isn't getting the ball in the post because he can't get position. Same issues with using his lower body that Towns had last year at this time, with the exception that he has about 50lbs on Skal and was not soft.

Points per Possession:

UCLA - 1.279
UK - 1.132

We played well enough on offense to win today. Field goal shooting was bad, but we did a good job taking care of the ball, getting to/converting at the line, and a decent job on the offensive glass.

That defense though...appalling. It was among the worst performances on that end of Cal's tenure.

You don't need 'position' for the HIGH post though, which is where Skal would be most effective anyways.

Bottom line, this Ulis/Briscoe dribble-til-we-find-a-contested-layup ******** will only work for so long....err, until tonight.

We STILL win if we don't let Welsh go 27-27 from the elbow.

I wouldn't mind some small ball on skal/willis. If Willis can help open the inside the Skal has room to work.

Might be a year Cal sacrifices defense to open up the other end. Gotta score. But him going Hawkins, Humphreys, Matthews, Poythress for extended minutes isn't going to work. Those guys can't score. Gotta have at least 3 guys that can score at all times. #anthrule.

Yeah, some of those lineups were a joke...and it had nothing to do with Ulis/Lee injuries.
