Speaking of, is Greg Anthony back in the studio? He better be. I mean, if there's a profession where I don't care if someone paid for sex, it's definitely the former-NBA-player-turned-analyst field.

I don't really care if ANYONE pays for sex while we're at it, save for the UofL basketball program of course. That's shameful.

Anything you'd use to build. Obviously builders, restoration company's, remodeler's etc etc.

It took time to realize 4 different people could do a takeoff on the same project differently and 4 different builders would build it different.

Landed 2 solid builders out of the gate by pure luck and by nature of just being in the business have expanded but depended a lot on the people around me. Just landed 2 more builders with no real help strictly based on increased knowledge and service, and have 4 more on the hook that seem ready but need more before moving their business.

Really just a good feeling after debating whether sales over management was a good call.

Who said anything about lucrative?

I graduated in 06 in accounting, and after 5 years couldn't do it anymore. Along the way got a MBA so when I quit accounting I tested management and insurance before landing where I am and really made nothing compared to where I was in accounting. Basically hit career reset with a wife, 2 kids and a mortgage with 70K in student loans.

Not sure what you do Clark but you'll land on your feet Im sure. If it's in construction and I can help I certainly would.

If you didn't take "easy to work with" as meaning he knew absolutely nothing and needed me to figure everything out for him then I can understand the d-league suggestion.

If you're nice to krazykats he'll send you cash in an envelope and go see UK lose a football game for you so I don't know how his business model works long term but I like it.

He's better than ISIS in my book.

No one ever leaves anymore no matter how rude we are to them. They just feel like that the acknowledgment, no matter how negative, is all the validation they need to keep posting. It's easier to just ignore and skip over their posts than engage them.

Harmon went and watched the Gabriel kid on Saturday night. Came away unimpressed. Said he didn't really do much until the end when he made a bunch of FT's. Basically the typical raw, 6'10" athlete with a skinny frame who thinks he's the next KG or Durant and took a bunch of jump shots.

Five minutes later I'm in the truck listening to Glover and he has Ben Roberts on and they're both gushing over the kid saying everyone was so impressed with him. [laughing]

No offense, but I'll go with my boy on this one. The local homers were losing their mind over all the Gillispie recruits as well. I'm sure the kid will be a good player here, but he will probably be frustrating as hell in spite of the fact that he will no doubt put on the mythical 20 pounds of muscle over the summer before he arrives.

Still remember you claiming Tamron Manning was going to be huge for Scott County, and had UK potential. Pretty sure he just finished his career at Kentucky Wesleyan. Stick to being grumpy and raking leaves.

He played division one basketball for three seasons as a scholarship player. For a kid from central Kentucky that's pretty damned good. I remember saying he was probably the best prospect on that team. I never claimed he'd be good enough to play here. You know what I remember about you, not a ******* thing.

Tuesday Shorts:

- Forde and Wetzel were going over why people hate Cam Newton, bringing up a race angle. Umm, nope. He's a complete douchebag. It's not difficult to see why people don't like the guy.

- Umm, the 2011 squad was certainly playing beautiful basketball in the tournament. That Ohio State and UNC weekend was awesome.

- All this Simmons/LSU media outrage cracks me up. Did you idiots NOT see this coming? Did you NOT watch Jones coach last year? That's what Simmons gets for choosing LSU.

- Gabriel is a freaking stud. With that said, this stuff about him playing the 3 in college is amusing.

- Myron Medcalf gives it to Carolina here.

- Bam is ridiculous. Dunks like 'Nique in-game.

Dont know who Tamron Manning is, but does anybody remember when Central KY basketball was actually pretty good? Back in my day (which was almost 20 years ago) I played against guys that ended up being starters at UK, UofL, Pitt, Notre Dame, Vandy, and a few other guys that signed with places like Boston College, DePaul, and Georgia out of high school. No offense to Dom, but I guess Shelvin Mack and the crack dealer from Scott Co were the last decent prospects from the area, the talent pool dried up pretty quickly around here.

Courier Journal - "Gabriel ignited the turnaround after a rocky start. In the first half, Maker violently rejected his shots, powered through him for rim-rattling dunks and swished 3-pointers over him. Both guys are top-10 overall prospects whose skills are abnormal for their size, but Gabriel was being obviously outplayed through 20 minutes."

Herald Leader - "Maker — a 7-footer and one of the best high school players in the country — hounded Gabriel for most of the game. The future Wildcat ended up on the floor on multiple occasions and took a finger to the eye in the opening minutes, going into halftime with just two made field goals and nine total points.

The second half started out much the same, but Gabriel found his groove at the end.

“I was just thinking, ‘Fight.’ I was just trying to get back in it,” Gabriel said after the game, his mouth full of blood from the physical play. “I already knew I was having a bad game, but it wasn’t about that. My team really was in it. We really wanted to win. I hate losing. So, I just liked how we fought and we came back."

Sorry, wasn't 'OH MY GOSH' impressed, maybe I expected too much based on all the hubbub. He looked the part in warm ups though. :fire:

Jarred Vanderbilt on the other hand ..... yes please. And he played against a much better team and had way less to work with from his teammates.

Talent pool didn't dry up, the best athletes in the state play football primarily and want to move on with that sport at the next level. And it has been that way since the mid 90's; Tim Couch, Dennis Johnson, Mario Urrutia, Keenan Burton, Jacob Tamme, DeVonte Parker.

My dad's longtime theory is that it is due to Pitino. At UK he couldnt give less of a **** of Ky HS kids, so they started focusing more on pointy ball in response.

According to the Texas AAU guy on Rafters who was calling Fox to UK back in the late summer, we're the team to beat for Vanderbilt.

Great theory. We've had a ton of football prospects since Pitino was here. And it makes total sense that Kentucky high school kids would stop focusing on basketball during our epic resurgence after probation.

I think this is why a lot of your better Ky athletes focus on football over basketball. With this said, though, it's weird that the central Ky talent pool for basketball has dried up to the extent it has. There's no excuse for Lexington to not have multiple D-1 players each year. I suspect that the AAU system around here just flat out sucks and that's a big part of the problem.

So we had the best football attendance bump in the SEC and 6th best in the country? Prettah, prettah, prettah sure that won't be the case next year.

Over the past 10 seasons, 22 players from central Kentucky(Fayette and adjacent counties) have made the C-J All-State teams. And some of those spots were actually players who were selected multiple times. That's not a great number, obviously, but what's worse is that out of those 22 players, only three signed scholarship papers with Power 5 Conference schools: Jared Carter, Vee Sanford, and Dominique Hawkins. Jarrod Polson came to UK as a walk-on, and Shelvin Mack made the NBA from a non-Power 5 conference school.

The ratio of central Kentucky players to rest-of-state players on these post-season awards teams is actually pretty similar to what it was 20-30 years ago. I think there is some truth to the fact that the AAU scene is relatively weak in central Kentucky(though the Bluegrass Travelers team has had some nice summers recently). Also, there seems to be a real revolving door in 11th region coaches these days. In the 80's/90's, you had longevity with guys like Harville at Lafayette, Bobby Washington at Bryan Station, Al Prewitt at Henry Clay, Nolan Barger at Tates Creek, etc. Those guys were there forever, it seemed. Now the only mainstays are Salsman(LexCath), Daniel Brown(HC), and Billy Hicks(Scott County).

That kind of turnover can't be good for developing kids from year to year.

Back to the talent pool talk, I also suspect (and this is probably true for Louisville, too) that a lot of parental resources, time and money are being devoted to baseball and soccer when maybe 15 years ago they would've gone to football and basketball.

Been a basketball fan my entire life. Pretty much my primary sport up until high school. Played pickup for 4-5 days a week until I got married. Still play in a men's league despite my body saying no. And I coach my youngest 2 boys and their 1st/2nd grade team. LOVE LOVE LOVE the game. With that said, there are a lot more opportunities for my kids in other sports. It sucks, but it's a harsh reality, and that's why we focus on other sports for the most part. And I know a lot of other parents who feel the same way.

Also, the elite talent at the top has dipped. You don't notice it at first when looking at the college choices of Mr. Basketball winners....

In the 1970's, seven of the 10 Mr. Basketball winners signed with power conference schools
In the 1980's, eight of 10
In the 1990's, seven of 10
From 2000-2010, seven of 10

So that part has been consistent. But....

Six of the Mr. Basketball winners in the 1970's were eventually drafted by the NBA
Four from the 1980's
Zero from the 1990's
One from 2000-2010

So the only Mr. Basketball since 1990 who was eventually drafted by the NBA was Darius Miller, who was a second-rounder.

That's the part that sticks out. Kentucky still has great HS basketball teams that do well when they go to out-of-state tournaments. Great high school coaches, though fewer of them are sticking at one place. And a lot of D-1 prospects(Kelan Martin is tearing it up at Butler, for instance). But there are very few elite-level talents being produced anymore, that's the difference.
