Could actually be lucky timing with the Little General from Madisonville Kentucky soon to be available. [smoke]
Getting a little tired of seeing Bill Derington's name on my screen.
-Tried to manufacture my Browns "fandom" because I didn't grow up with a team, and was living up there when they came back. After 10 years of that nonsense, I realized that I didn't care all that much after all and I quit pretending. Last night, my seven-year-old(who is the only member of my family who will actually watch football with me) suddenly said that she wanted to pick a favorite team. She just wanted to look at logos and colors. She picked Denver. Ridiculous, obviously, but as a parent, if my kid wants to pick a favorite team, I'll play along with it. Wish my dad had shared my love of sports.
-The only David Bowie stuff I know well is that Christmas duet he did with Bing Crosby. And "Labyrinth".
-I've been interested in the goings-on at UNLV for the past several years, the same way I have been with DePaul. Both storied programs in world-class cities that are a shell of their former selves. I get why DePaul struggles(no homecourt advantage, difficult league), but there is ZERO reason they can't win 25 a year and be in ranked every single season. They went cheap with Dave Rice, and they'll probably go cheap again. Mike Brown(formerly of Cavs) is the name bandied about this morning.
If they're gonna go the "washed-up former NBA coach" route, at least go with Mike D'Antoni. Still has a ton of name recognition out west, and coached an up-and-down style that people still associate with Vegas anyway. If they're gonna go cheap college route, Marvin Menzies would be an excellent hire. Has won consistently at New Mexico State(five tournaments in six years), and knows the recruiting landscape.
-Late on this, but loved the "30 for 30" on Bill McCartney and the Colorado Buffaloes. Those 90-91 Buff teams might have been my favorite CFB team of all time: Bienemy, Hagan, Figures, McGee, Williams. Loved pulling for those guys.

Had an interesting morning...
Been getting some complaints by tenants at a multiplex we own/manage that students from the high school across the street had been breaking in and smoking blunts in the laundry room and harassing the tenants. Spent the morning like this dude running off delinquents.
One kept talking about how he was going to kick my *** as he ran down the street. About a dozen more just left without saying a word. Cleaning up poorly managed properties is never a dull moment.

-You did get the pleasure of having the "can you imagine winning that? Man, here's what I'd do with it" about 60 times on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
-Does anyone else's wife get out of the car slow as can be? If I didn't stop and wait, I would be a good 50-75 yards ahead of her. Drives me bonkers.

It's not just you. If I wanted to, I could read an entire book throughout a year if the only time I ever picked it up was to read it while she was getting out of the car.
If we go through a whole day without Cal tweeting out his usual "happy where I am" boilerplate, then I might start to get a little concerned. But the lure of next year's class should reassure everyone anyway.
The Catch-22 for Cal is that the jobs that would throw him the money and control he wants are absolutely terrible ones.

huge appeal of nba coaching is the constant turnover. if kentucky signs cal to a 10-year, $120 million deal, that's a decade where he's expected to bust his ever loving *** and constantly be in title contention.
in the nba, you're fired after year 2 or 3 and get paid $120 million for only a few lazy, last place finishing seasons.

The more I watch Sean Miller's teams play, the more and more I dislike the idea of him at UK. Well, I wouldn't say I DON'T want him here ever... but I'm much more MEH on it than I was 5 years ago.
Don't get me wrong -- elite recruiter, he wins, younger guy, nice coaching family tree etc... But his teams constantly grind **** out despite being more talented 98% of the time. And then throw in those Billy G mannerisms to boot? Call me pretentious or whatever... but style of play matters A LOT to me. Ugh.

I would seriously consider looking at an NBA guy for the job. It would take some homework to find a good fit, but I wouldn't limit the search to college guys.
As far as college coaches go, I'm not sure I wouldn't take Archie over Sean. That might be too big of a leap for him, though.

How many coaches willingly leave an NBA job for a college job? Not even sure you can count Pitino since he was on thin ice with the Knicks (despite his success) when he left. The folks who take college jobs after a stint in the NBA are almost uniformly failures at the higher level.
The way the program is set up now, we won't make it past choice #2. Only maybe 4-5 jobs out there that could possibly keep us away.

Seton Hall needs to get back on the basketball radar. Conference realignments put them in the shadows, and the legend of Terry Dehere, im afraid, may no longer be told. That was one of the 1st places i'd interviewed out of grad school. It checked all the boxes- good academics, catholic, proximity to NYC... but the money was gonna be tight and I couldnt make it work. Also Newark.

Basically, if you're not a complete alcoholic, you will win a title at UK.
I have a dedicated spare house key in the bowl to hand to my wife while she is remembering & gathering various trip "necessities" and trying out pashminas in the foyer as I proceed to our vehicle.
Then I sit in the car with the baby and get my tunes* in order.
