- I don't want to go all 80's sitcom material here, but why in the hell do women ask "their man" their opinion on which dress/shoe/earring/fur scarf/kerchief/how to wear their hair/shade of eye color/etc??????

The other day my wife asked me about which earring she should wear with some sort of outfit for our once-a-season-date-night. After years of answering these questions genuinely - only to have her select the opposite of my choice - I decided not to even look at the items in question this time.

I flatly said, "one on your left" without even looking. She came back 5 minutes later explaining why she chose the opposite of what I said. She was so sweet. Apologetic almost. When I told her it was fine because I didn't even look, she stormed off, offended.

She came back in with the original earrings I had selected in the first place. I suppose that when she knew I didn't make an informed decision, that was good enough for her to select what she truly wanted - even if it matched my tasteless selection. Good grief.

- My favorite terms for "moving quickly":

1. "Hauling ***"
2. "Mo-docking"
3. "Sh-ttin' it and gittin' it"
4. "Raring to go, but can't go for raring" <-- especially if they stumble or fall
5. ??? Open to suggestions

- Sometimes a nice nacho bar is all it takes.

- One of the weirdest quirks for this generation of kids is they find cash irritating. They don't carry it and they don't want it.

My 17 year old daughter rolls her eyes if I give her cash to pay for something. She leaves cash tips from work (don't go there, you guys) in a paper sack that sometimes is left out on the kitchen table.

There are random 5 dollar bills and one dollar bills laying all over the house. I guess I've got my own tax refund by picking up her irritating spare change. Ridiculous.

- Now that the SEC has exclusive broadcasting rights through ESPN and Disney, the conference is getting all of the hype. I know our basketball conference is loaded this year, but are they that loaded or is it more like Mike Patrick with the ACC in '99 levels of hype? I, for one, believe the hype. . . or as the kids say, "glaze."

- Smoked a Boston Butt overnight for the Super Bowl and couldn't have been any more disappointed. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but it was awful. Could've been a bad cut. Could've been the weather.

You would think a 12 hour smoke at 225-235 would be good enough for a medium sized butt (7.5 lbs). Nope. Came out dense and rubbery. I didn't tend to it like I should have between hour 5 and 11 but still. Those things usually cook themselves.

My ribs? Awesome. Wings? Competition worthy. The easiest piece of meat to smoke? Awful. Very pissed. Gonna do another one this weekend for redemption.

It could have been the butt. I did one once, smoked to 197 degrees, rested for an hour and it was like roast beef. It may not have been entirely thawed out, too.

That said, always cook to temp not time. That’s the biggest fight my neighbor and I have when we smoke stuff.

Boston Butt or pork shoulder?

Shoulder is a nicer cut to smoke…last time I set out for BBQ pork, every store was out of shoulder. Stuck with the Boston butt with joint leg bone and most times skin has a much more gamey taste and more connective tissue which has a texturally unappetizing bite.

Wrap with butcher paper after 6hrs or 160°, whilst cruising at 275°.

I wrapped in heavy duty aluminum foil at 180. Rested an hour but didn't measure temp then because I was in a hurry and just assumed things were on schedule. When I tried to pull the bone out, I knew I was in trouble. I like to shred/pull when it gets 190-195. Again, my schedule was really wacky last weekend and I didn't give it enough attention. I set it and left it. I was embarrassed.

It was really windy early that morning and I worry that made my smoker temps fluctuate.

I would have chopped the f out of it and poured a bunch of sauce on top.

Cash minus whale be on fire as soon as I receive it unless it's given to me at the bank and I immediately hand it to the teller for deposit.

“Like he was shot out of a cannon”
“Like he’d just sit on a hot stove”
“Faster than a fat girl heading for cake”

That’s what great about being from Kentucky, so many good sayings. Get asked about them all the time. People from other parts of the country don’t use as many!

I've listened to the television broadcast only a few times this year.

The commentary doesn't illuminate or story tell. It is a tool of provocation. I feel nothing but malice for the souls behind the microphone during a television broadcast.

In a stat that actually makes sense (from ESPN+):
  • The six SEC teams on the top four lines of the bracket -- Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Texas A&M and Kentucky -- entered the week with a combined record of 45-23 in Quadrant 1 games. This is an even crazier stat when you consider 16 of the losses came in games against one another.
To do the math Ravvy couldn't apparently do, that would put the top SEC teams at 29-7 against Q1 teams outside the SEC. That's bonkers town.

Basically vs SEC Quad 1’s we are 4-0, and the rest is irrelevant to me.

That’s sick!
