-I get portal hate but can't be denied that it's increasing the level of talent in college sports. In 2020 like 350 kids entered the draft. This year less than 1/3 of that entered. Most of the guys are making far more in college than they could professionally.

It isn't increasing the level of talent. Just because kids are staying in school an extra year, for example, doesn't automatically equate to them being "better". Most had no business leaving in the first place, and it definitely hasn't increased the level of play from the overall team aspect, except in the upper tier....the rich get richer. The $$ they are making in college is irrelevant, and if they are good enough to go first round, then the pro$ outweighs the portal$.

OK. . . it's testing week here and I'm in charge of a Homeroom that is not testing so I'm bored during Derby Week. If the gyeroLLC syndicate bought a horse racing stable, what GYERO inspired thoroughbred names could we up with? I'd love to see one of these names on a commemorative Derby glass one day:

Chalky Honk (must be a gray)
Dynafire (DIAF, but looks like the pedigree is from Dynaformer)
Captain Suntan (one of the best nicknames ever)
Get Pumped
Marcus Welby
Positionofknowlge
(only get 18 characters for thoroughbred names)
Jared's Monkey
False Bub
Power K
Pretentiousness

I'm sure there are better ones. Throw 'em out there.

I will never wear a pair of Hoka shoes. Just inexplicably hate 'em, and immediately judge anyone wearing them for no apparent reason. They're just a Hoka person to me from then on out.

May is absolutely the peak aesthetic month in our neighborhood. Bright green everywhere, flowers poppin', freshly mowed. Tough to beat a nice walk around the block in the golden hour.

Shaping up to be an epic season of college basketball for the big blue.

How long before we see a G-League or NBA player come back to college? I imagine there are still some rules in place, but I'm not sure how they differ from foreign pros.

-Tadej Pogačar is unbelievable. We're witnessing a MJ, Tiger, Messi type of career right now and he's at the absolute tip top.

The portal and NIL are certainly not showing any positive effects at Chapel Hill.

Shorts:

- Tear it up my Louisville friends. What a time of year. Derby week is a treasure.

- Thought Red, Russell Parrish and KG were the winners of the terrific Celtics docuseries.

- Always appreciate the 80s rock hype songs - Eye of the Tiger, No Easy Way Out, etc.

- Preferences and biases aside, May and September have to be the most commonly enjoyable weather months in these parts. I’m an October guy but September is more reliable.

- How great were late 80s/early 90s sports posters? Any trip to the mall had me hounding mom to pop $7 on some **** like Reggie Lewis/Brian Shaw “Changing of the Guard” or Rex “Stinger”. Fan allegiances didn’t really matter. Was pure boyhood sports love.

- Cliche especially in this MFer but Pope just gets it. He gets us. I truly believe we’re on the precipice of another historic Big Blue 1948-1954, 1992-1998, 2010-2015 type run. And the rest of the country seems oblivious. F’em. We comin’.

- Miss all you fellas. Happy Derby.

^ rack the hell out of that

It’s always funny how sometimes there is just that instant attraction between you and the member of the opposite sex you are encountering at that moment. Just that immediate, eye-to-eye mutual message, “yea, we are going to f**k.”

Random, unbridled sex with someone you don’t know is incredible.

Read this every Derby Day

https://www.sensitiveskinmagazine.com/hunter-s-thompson-the-kentucky-derby-is-decadent-and-depraved/

"The grim reaper comes early in this league … banshees on the lawn at night, screaming out there beside that little iron ****** in jockey clothes. Maybe he’s the one who’s screaming. Bad DT’s and too many snarls at the bridge club. Going down with the stock market. Oh Jesus, the kid has wrecked the new car, wrapped it around that big stone pillar at the bottom of the driveway. Broken leg? Twisted eye? Send him off to Yale, they can cure anything up there." 🤣

Only liked 4 horses in the Derby, 8,17,18,21. Bet $20 exacta and trifecta boxes. Played a bunch of different $1 superfecta tickets with the rest of the field running 3rd and 4th. Was really glad when the favorite was caught and was really hoping he’d run 3rd at the end.

Went to Ellis Park to bet because Bally’s doesn’t take bets on the race. Was a flipping nightmare of people. Mix of all dressed up and then the degenerate gamblers that had already lost their money and begging for dollars. They had 4 tellers and about 10 machines. WTF, you’re a track with a so called casino, open the other betting windows and machines.
